Work Text:

Stu woke up on the wrong side of the bed. At least that's what he would've told himself had it not been for the fact that it felt like he was in a constant state of being in a depressing mood that turned everything sour. He would have loved nothing more than to hide underneath his blanket and not do anything, like he had been doing for the past couple of days, but when his days just started to blur together, his phone started ringing. Stu didn't bother to look to see who was calling him. If it was important, they'd leave a voicemail. When the ringing stopped, his phone chimed to let him know he had a text message. He only knew one person who would text him immediately when he didn't answer his phone, and he groaned. On all accounts, he loved Nina, but she had a way to make him feel guilty for ignoring her. He sat up and grabbed his phone from the nightstand to open the text.

Nina: 𝙸 𝚜𝚊𝚠 𝚊 𝚗𝚎𝚠 𝚣𝚘𝚖𝚋𝚒𝚎 𝚖𝚘𝚟𝚒𝚎 𝚒𝚜 𝚘𝚞𝚝. 𝙻𝚎𝚝'𝚜 𝚐𝚘 𝚜𝚎𝚎 𝚒𝚝 :𝙳

Stu let out a groan while he ran a hand through his hair. Of course, she would want to drag him out to see a movie. He was never in the know of what new movies were coming out, so it was news to him that a zombie movie had been released. Nina knew him well enough to know that he loved a good zombie movie, and maybe this is what he needed to get out of his depression.

Stu: 𝚔
Nina: 𝙰𝚠𝚎𝚜𝚘𝚖𝚎! 𝙸'𝚕𝚕 𝚙𝚒𝚌𝚔 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚞𝚙 𝚊𝚏𝚝𝚎𝚛 𝚠𝚘𝚛𝚔.

He set his phone back down and sighed. At least one of them was happy.

There was a knock on his door, and then he heard the sounds of boots walking across his floor. Stu didn't know when he had fallen asleep, so as he sat up, he tried to rub the sleep from his eyes. He couldn't help the tinge of irritation at hearing the sound of familiar chuckling.

"What's so funny, Nina?"
"You, sleepyhead. I didn't mean to wake you."

Stu let out a grunt, stood up, and then froze when he caught sight of Nina. She wore a golden yellow dress with puffy mid-sleeves, yet it had cut-outs for her shoulders to be bare. The dress was paired with a black choker necklace featuring a round golden pendant and a yellow glass stone beaded bracelet, as well as golden dangling earrings. Nina smiled at him, shifting her weight from one foot to the other as she stayed under Stu's gaze.

"Is everything okay, Stu?"
"You're gorgeous," Stu said breathlessly.
Nina's smile brightened, "Thank you. You're looking good yourself."
Stu scoffed, walking closer to stand in front of Nina, "Nothin' compared to you." Stu leaned down and kissed the top of Nina's head, taking a deep inhale, "You smell nice."
Nina couldn't contain her giggles, reaching out to take hold of one of Stu's hands, "Is this the compliment Nina hour? You're smelling my cucumber melon perfume. Come on, let's leave before we miss the previews."

Stu instinctively intertwined his fingers with Nina's and allowed himself to be led out by her; the fogginess of the past couple of days evaporated.

Stu looked around himself in the dark theater. The movie had entered a lull, with the characters talking, and this bored him. He couldn't place any blame on Nina for not knowing that the zombie movie would turn out to be bad? They weren't the only ones watching it, as other moviegoers looked enthralled at the screen. Stu huffed, blowing a few strands of his hair out of his face. He was about to reach into his pocket to take his phone out to play a round of Snake when he looked over at Nina. She had her chin resting on her palm, looking mildly bored. It amused Stu to see her not interested in the movie that she suggested, causing him to let out a chuckle. Nina glanced over at him and could feel a smile tugging at her lips.

"Enjoying the movie? Be honest," Nina whispered.
"Not really," Stu whispered back.
"We could always make out until they get back to killing again."
Stu smirked, "Now you're talkin'."

Stu and Nina turned to face one another and leaned towards each other. As they began to kiss, Stu pulled back, licking his lips. "You taste like watermelon."
Nina chuckled, "I'm wearing lip balm. Now come back here."

Nina reached for his shirt to tug him forward and kissed him gently. Nina's hands found their way into Stu's hair and gently tugged on it as they continued to kiss, causing a low moan to escape from Stu. Just as Stu broke the kiss and started to pepper kisses along the side of Nina's neck, the theater erupted into loud gunshots, causing Nina and Stu to jump and yelp out loud. As they stared at the screen of zombies having their heads blown off, they looked at each other and laughed, causing multiple people to shush them. As they settled back down to watch the movie, Nina rested her head against Stu's shoulder, causing him to lean down and kiss the top of her head before continuing to watch the movie.

"That was a good movie. Glad you picked it, Nina."
"Was it good because it was actually good or because you liked tasting my lips?"
"Why can't it be both?"

Nina laughed as she drove. Stu stared at Nina. He loved hearing her genuine laughter as it sounded like it was filled with joy. She was always working so hard to keep the band in the spotlight and make sure that anything negative said about them could be spun into a positive light (which was always happening, given how Noodle and Murdoc were). Knowing that he was the one who was making her laugh made him feel like he was doing something important in this dreary life of his. Nina glanced at him.

"You look like you're lovestruck."
"Maybe I am."
Nina chuckled, "That's sweet of you, Stu."
"That's 'cause you're sweet."
Nina laughed that joyous laugh that Stu was taking pleasure in hearing, "Stop it! You're gonna make me blush!"

Stu leaned over and kissed Nina on the cheek. Nina didn't need to know how much of a depression pit he had been in the past couple of days, but she deserved to know how much she meant to him, and if that meant making her blush, then so be it.
