Work Text:
Sakura was laying on her bed. Attempting to do her homework. ‘Attempting’ being letting the numbers spin in her head and looking longingly at her phone. Sometimes she almost wished some sort of supernatural disaster would drag her attention away again.
As if on cue, her door nearly slammed open. Yue quickly entered and slammed the door with just as much fervor. Both her dad and Kero’s voices carried from downstairs reminding them to not slam doors.
“There is something wrong with me and I need you to fix it,” Yue said.
Well that’s what she gets for wishing for a supernatural disaster. And it was not helped by the fact that this was the most unsettled she had seen Yue…. probably ever in the five years she’d known him.
“What’s wrong?” Sakura asked. “Are you low on Magic again? I thought we fixed-”
“That’s fine,” Yue answered. “Your power is enough now. The problem is more complex. Though I don’t think there’s a direct danger, I don’t want it to distract me if I need to come to your assistance.”
“So what is the problem?” she asked.
As Yue tried to figure out where to begin, Sakura pulled herself to the edge of the bed. Sitting up instead of laying across it. Inviting him to sit down by tugging on his sleeve.
He reluctantly sat down, running a hand through his hair. Looking more like he wanted to tear it out.
“I believe that Yukito’s experiences are…. Effecting me,” Yue admitted.
“More than just knowing what he does?” Sakura asked.
“Yes,” he said. “Recently I’ve been feeling quite… I suppose the word to use is ‘fluttery’. Overheating at times. Dazed too. Like I can’t focus on anything that should hold my attention.”
“Are you sick?” she asked. “Wait. Can you get sick? You haven’t since I’ve known you. Neither has Kero. Does Human cold medicine work on you?”
“I’m not sick,” he said, almost giving an indignant huff. “It’s Yukito’s emotions bleeding through even when I’m in control, as those are the same things he feels when he’s around your brother.”
Oh. Oh? OH!!
Sakura couldn’t help the mischievous grin. Though some part of her knew better than to gossip, teasing him in her friends’ groupchat was far too tempting. Tomoyo would think it was sweet. Syaoran would be cackling.
“So,” Sakura began, her voice lilting into a sing-song tone. “Are any of Yukito’s other feelings coming through? Or just the feelings about Toya?”
At this, Yue frowned. As if he had never considered the possibility. He thought a touch too long, which already gave an answer.
“Now that you mention it,” Yue began. “Could Toya be the cause instead?”
“Interesting,” she said. “Any idea why?”
“I’m not sure,” he said. “All I can think of is when he gave me his Magic. But that was years ago. If there were any side effects, it should have appeared long before now.”
“Right,” she deadpanned. “Well there’s surely no other possible explanation that we could think of! It’s truly a mystery?”
“Perhaps Divination could help?” he suggested.
Right. Yue never did get a good grasp on sarcasm.
She decided to play along though. Getting up from the bed and over to her desk. Clearing off her projects and bringing the Cards out. Even if she knew the answer, this could help with moving forward after.
She shuffled the deck, muttering her enchantments and letting the power move through them. Only stopping once it felt right.
Drawing the Cards, she set them on the desk. Letting their energy pull her toward the formation of the Fortune. Upper left and slanted. Lower right and straight. Middle and horizontal. Back to the right but the upper corner this time.
She kept going. The pattern seemingly random but becoming clearer and clearer. Drawing still until they told her to stop. Seeing a few things of note besides the arrangement was the Cards chosen. She’d used half the deck!
It would be necessary for Yue’s stubbornness.
“The Cards say you’re gay,” Sakura declared.
“What?” Yue demanded, getting up to look over her shoulder. “No the fuck they-”
Alas. The Cards did, in fact, say that. Specifically they arranged themselves to spell out the words “you r gay” on the desktop.
Sakura was trying not to laugh at Yue’s incredulous expression. He wanted to call her out on it. Accuse her of screwing around for a joke. But he noticed the other pattern in the Cards. Every Card that appeared on the desk was one under his power. All of Kero’s were still in the deck. The chances of her shuffle being random and not pointedly Magical were slim to say the least.
Okay okay. She’d had her fun. Now was the time to handle it much more directly yet delicately.
“Yue,” Sakura said, getting his attention. “Is it at all possible that you’re not feeling Yukito’s feelings for Toya, but that you have your own feelings about him?”
There was another one of those ‘silent for a second too long’ moments. Instead of an answer, there was a whirlwind of feathers. After the effect cleared, it was Yukito instead looking around a touch bewildered.
Didn’t take him long to get his bearings. He began to ask something before seeing the card arrangement on the desk.
“I was wondering when he’d figure that out,” Yukito said.
