Sekh held the door open, watched as Sea'an came barreling out of the cottage at top speed. "Careful, you'll trip!" Sekh yelled after him, although he was completely ignored- which is exactly what he expected, from his eldest.
Gohma stepped into the doorway, holding their youngest child, Faern'leth. The boy was holding onto his father's shoulder as Gohma stepped out into the night. At two, Faern was still eager to be attached to either of his fathers, but openly adored how easily Gohma carried him around. Sekh understood the feeling quite well.
"Dad!" Sea'an yelled, a few yards away. "We're gonna miss it!" Sekh let the door shut, heading over to the clearing along the side of the house- a small space free of trees and Sekh's many gardens. It was a good place for the kids to tumble around.
Which they did. Very often.
Sea'an was rocking on his feet, head tipped back so far it was a wonder he hadn't toppled right over. Sekh could just see his mouth moving as he approached, whispering constellation names to himself. The Lady of Mystery. The Dragon of Dawn.
The Huntsman- clear as if it had been drawn in ink, signifying that they were indeed in spring.
Gohma reached Sea'an first, his free hand bracing their oldest to keep him standing. Sekh watched as Sea leaned back fully, weight supported by Gohma, and pointed up, tracing the Huntsman.
"In a few months that will be gone, and it'll be summer, and hot ." He was talking more to Faern than his father, but Gohma was listening, even if he'd heard this fact about every other night for the past few weeks.
Sekh smiled at them all, placing a hand to the small of Gohma's back, looking up himself. The sky twinkled richly, bits of shining gold on a blue velvet. The sky had always been beautiful, but it held a new sort of wonder now, watching his oldest grow utterly infatuated with it over the years. Sekh was sure his own mother would have loved Sea'an's adoration for the night sky- it had been the thing she had wanted to see most, on the surface. Sekh had fond memories of her discussing it- of his own father recounting the stars, to his mother, as he'd been topside a few times in his life.
"Did we miss it?" Sea'an asked after only fifteen seconds of silence, drawing Sekh back to the present. Sekh moved his other hand to rest on his head, stroking back his snowy hair, fingers instinctively finding the few ginger locks that had grown in.
"No Seashell, you just have to be patient." The little drow frowned, but kept his eyes locked on the sky.
No sooner than his oldest son had settled, a light appeared, streaming across the sky. It lit everything up in a golden hue that belonged to the hands of a cleric. He heard Sea'an's gasp of wonder, his oldest pointing to it excitedly.
He glanced at Gohma, saw his eyes tracking the comet as it moved, Faern firmly in his grasp and staring with his mouth wide open. He looked so much like a small Gohma that Sekh's heart cramped up.
"It's so pretty ," Sea whispered, and Sekh bent over, got both his arms around his son and held him back to his chest.
"Just like you," Sekh said, dropping a kiss to Sea'an's hair. He glanced back up, continuing to watch it streak across the sky, until it was nearly out of sight. Only then did Sea'an squirm out of Sekh's hold, turning to Gohma and pulling at his shirt.
"Put Faern down so we can chase it!" He said eagerly. Gohma bent over to very gently set down Faern'leth, but took a firm and loving hold of Sae'an's shoulder.
"Not past the fruit trees," he cautioned, and Sea nodded, his face very, very serious. He took Faern's hand in his own- not needing to be reminded to keep a hold of him- and quickly led him around the cottage.
Sekh watched them go, before he felt Gohma's arms around him, pulling him back into his hold. Sekh sighed, tipped his head back, could just catch a glance of the little smile on his lover's face.
"Zilv napping under the peach trees again?" Gohma nodded, and Sekh chuckled. Their drake would ensure the boys didn't go too far. Content, then, that the boys were safe, he turned in Gohma's arms, got his own up over his lover's broad shoulders. "You know, kissing under a shooting star is good luck."
Gohma snorted a laugh. "Is it now?" He moved one hand to tuck some of Sekh's free hair back behind his ear. The warlock nodded. "Where did you hear that?"
"Oh. You know. It's common surface knowledge."
He offered a huge grin, and Gohma laughed- freely . It was one of Sekh's favorite sounds. He'd never get sick of hearing it.
"Of course." Gohma's tone made it clear he knew Sekh was making the entire thing up, but still he pulled him close, leaning down to press a gentle, warm kiss to his mouth.
Sekh sighed, smiling against Gohma's lips, hands moving from his shoulders to tangle in and toy with his soft hair. Gohma gave him a pleased little rumble, and Sekh shivered, flicking his tongue playfully against his lips.
When Sekh pulled back- lest he forget that time and space existed and lose himself entirely in his lover until sunrise- Gohma dipped his head, peppering light, playful kisses along Sekh's neck. Sekh giggled, tipping his head back, hair cascading along his shoulders and back. "Careful," Sekh breathed, "or I'll drag you under the covers the moment we crawl into bed."
"Promise to let me find every constellation on your skin?" Gohma asked, and Sekh let a warm shiver roll through him, knowing how it felt to have Gohma's fingers, lips, tongue trace shapes between his many freckles-
"Dad!" Sea'an's voice was loud, calling from around the cottage- not at all distressed. Sekh swallowed, as Gohma nibbled at his ear.
"Yes Seashell?"
"Faern is sleeping in my room tonight and we're bringing Zilv inside!" The sound of the two children rushing for the cottage, along with their drake's steady foot falls, seemed so loud that Sekh started laughing. Gohma moved to press a kiss to his cheek then, before stepping back, taking Sekh's hand after a moment, tangling their fingers together.
"Let's get them settled," Sekh said, knowing that saying to bed would have been pointless. Sea'an obviously had too much energy and excitement to sleep yet, and Faern'leth fed off his brother's energy. "And then…"
He trailed off, flashing a smile, and Gohma glanced at him, his own smile playful.
Sekh had a feeling everyone would be sleeping late, the next morning.
