Chapter Text
10 minutes until school was out. Sae was unbothered when it came to school but he couldn't deny his inside excitement to never come to high school ever again. He stared at the clock, tapping his pencil against his desk for every second that passed.
He watched his dumb classmates. They threw paper balls at each other, they were yelling and laughing loudly. Sae just grumbled in his seat and held his head up with his hand. Their teacher sighed in her seat, "are any of you doing the assignment?" The room went silent.
She looked around with disappointment, "I don't know how half of you got into college." Karasu dramatized his reaction, Sae recognized him from Soccer Club, he stood up and pointed at the clock. "4 MINUTES!!" The teacher just leaned into her seat, resting her head against her arms, "got it Karasu."
When the bell finally rang, Sae just quietly and neatly put his things away. Everyone else stormed out of the classroom, throwing papers in the air and being rowdy. As Sae walked towards the door, he noticed his teacher picking up the thrown papers.
He bent down and started picking some up. She smiled and softly said, "Thank you Sae. You're going to go far in life, unlike the rest of them." The pink-haired boy just handed her the papers and gave her a nod of acknowledgment.
Suddenly and predictably Shidou popped up at the doorway. The rambunctious boy jumped on Sae's body while screaming, "SAE-CHAN!!! We're done!" Sae rolled his eyes, slowly standing up which made Shidou slowly slide off the boy's body.
Sae turned his back to the teacher and stuck his hand out in a wave-like motion, "have a good summer." Shidou pouted before scattering to catch up with him. he wrapped his arm around Sae and acted giddy, "where's my acknowledgement cutie"
The teacher just watched awkwardly, her mouth slightly hanging. She quickly got up, the boys just leaving the classroom. She stuck her head out the room, "Have a good summer boys!"
-
The two walked out. Just before they went out the school doors, Sae came to a stop. "soccer stuff" he muttered. They nearly forgot that Ego had sent out an email a couple days ago, telling them to stop by his office before leaving.
Shidou jerked up, "Oh! I got that too!! The email grumpy pants sent us?" Sae nodded, "do you know who else got it? ..maybe he just invited the seniors or something."
Shidou thought for a second before smiling, "no because RinRin got an invite too!" The other looked up with a scowl, "How do you know that and not me?" Shidou cocked his head, "Did you ask him?" The shorter answered quickly, "no..?"
Shidou merrily went on his way to Ego's office, "Then you can't be complaining Sae-Chan!"
Sae opened the door only to see many of his other teammates. He walked in, standing next to Rin and Isagi. As shidou walked in his dapped up Karasu and Otoya. He grinned, "YOO they let you delinquents in here too?!"
"Hell yes bro" Otoya smiled, shaking the boys hand. Ego spoke up, "silence my little Egoists" the room went quiet. Sae scoffed remembering all the times he told Ego how annoying that nickname was. Karasu looked around the room, trying to hold in his laughter.
But, shortly after making eye contact with Ego, he swallowed his laughter. The club manager began to speak again, "You seven have been selected to assistant coach the 12-13 year old summer class. I trust that you will all be appropriate," he narrowed his eye's at Shidou, who just looked around the room confused. He continued, "Do not let these kids die. Or be mediocre. Both are worst-case scenarios."
Rin pointed at himself and then at Isagi, "Why do we have to be there?? We're not even seniors." he slouched his posture, Isagi nervously looked at Ego. The coach stood up from his chair, approaching Rin. "The class begins on June 1st to the 7th. I'm leaving you in the hands of a last year graduate, Oliver Aiku, and Barou Shoei." he shrugged his shoulder towards Barou who was standing next to his desk.
Rin crossed his arms, "You didn't answer my question..?" Isagi lowered his head in embarrassment. Meanwhile Ego just grinned, "The answer is that I chose you. You either do this camp or you will not have a place on the team next year." Rin looked to the side, showing no signs of regret or obedience.
Ego walked back to his desk, "..or maybe you'd like me to tell you how bad you're teamwork skills are? You're like a brick. Unmoving and unresponsive." stifled laughter was spread out between the group. Ego sat at his desk and looked up at rin, "The only way you can move is with a set of hands. So do the camp, because I said so. And maybe you can pick up something on the way."
The room returned to silence. Rin just nodded his head while looking away annoyed, but effected. Sae looked around the room. Seven assistant coaches. Sae, Rin, Isagi, Shidou, Aryu, Karasu, and Otoya. Aiku and Barou as coaches. Sae thought to himself at how an annoying week that would be.
Ego dismissed all the boys. They were all laughing and joking around. Karasu ran to the front of the crowd, "hey guys! let's make a group chat" Sae sighed, he didn't like the idea of all these people having his phone number. He watched as they all crowded each other, sharing their numbers. Shidou looked back at him, raising his eyebrows in anticipation.
Sae looked up, avoiding Shidou's whining face. He sighed, "Fine. Enter my number for me." Shidou ran excitingly to the phone, entering in the boys number from memory. Karasu snicker, "Jesus dude how far gone do you have to be memorize the guy's phone number"
Shidou looked up all annoyed, "kill me for being loyal!" The boys pushed him out the circle jokingly. Shidou laughed and then jogged to catch up with Sae and Rin. They were walking tot he parking lot. Sae was especially relieved to be done with school, Rin still had end-of-year exams since it was only his junior year.
Shidou caught up to the two, he started walking to catch his breath. "So! ..Wanna get food? Last day of school. come onn, I know you're starving!!" He stuck his hands in his pockets. Sae side-eyed him, but thought about the process. 'I guess this would get the one hangout I will have with this boy out of the way.. I do not plan on seeing him again this summer. And I bet he would pay for my food as well..'
His thoughts were interrupted by Rin's smug voice, "You're my ride home nii-chan!" Sae then side-eyed Rin. Out of spite Sae nodded, "Fine. Let's just go to McDonalds or something." It was perfect because it was fast-food so they wouldn't spend a whole lot of time together. Then Sae could get home faster.
Shidou excitingly grabbed onto the two, wrapping an arm around them. "Sae-chan and shidou~ plus rinrin.."He squeezed Rin's shoulder. Sae jogged forward, releasing himself from Shidou's touch. Shidou pushed Rin away, pretending to retch before returning his gaze to Sae.
They finally arrived at the Itoshi's car. Shidou ran to the drivers seat, opening it for Sae. Sae scoffed and sat down. He put his hand on the door, looking up at Shidou. "See you there. demon." He let the ends of his mouth turn upwards. Shidou giggled, "see ya handsome!" Sae closed the door, reverting to that stoic face.
Rin looked at him in disbelief, "Why do you entertain him.." Sae bit the inside of his cheek, "I'm not entertaining him..?" The younger looked down at his phone. Clearly he looked uninterested in the conversation but he muttered anyways, "well you agreed to get food with the thing."
Sae threw his hands up, "He would've bothered me all summer! I'm just getting it over with now so I don't have to later." Rin leaned his head against the window, "Who said you even have to hang out with him this summer at all. Sounds like you're decision." Sae opened his mouth to speak but Rin stopped him with a glare. "And don't even say that he wouldn't have stopped blowing up your phone, because it was YOUR decision to give him the damn thing."
Sae closed his mouth. Silence was brought upon the car ride. Sae was tired of hearing TikTok audios blare from Rin's phone, so he awkwardly turned on the radio. They arrived at the fast-food joint and promptly got out of the car.
They headed towards the door, seeing Shidou's happy grin from the window. Sae took a breath in before opening the door. He pretended like he wasn't here when he caught sight of Shidou rapidly waving his arms around.
Rin kept his stare onto his phone, following closely behind Sae. Rin sat down first, Sae sat on the edge.
Shidou put both his hands on the table, "You don't wanna sit next to me? I'm not poisonous" he whined. Sae put his arms on the table, propping one up to hold his head. He spoke in a low tone, "Well for one I didn't really want to"
Shidou reached his hands out, stretching them while grabbing for Sae's arms. "You didn't waaaant too..?" he cocked his head at the other. Rin looked up from the phone, "Stop being gross. I'm right here" he slouched further in his chair.
The act reminded Sae to fix up his posture. Sae went to go buy him and Rin's food, he already knew the boy's order. Shidou quickly got up, offering to pay.
"If you didn't insist on grouping you and Rin's order together, I totally would've just paid for you.." he smirked at Shidou, they just arrived back at the table with all the food. Sae chuckled to himself, "Oddly romantic.."
Rin glared at the bug from above his phone, Shidou putting a rest to the seductive smile he was putting on for Sae.
The night went on with constant bickering between Shidou and Rin. But in a way it felt enjoyable. The night was bad. but it wasn't bad.
In fact, Sae wasn't even minding the camp he would have to do in 2 weeks. He watched as Shidou laughed with his mouth full, ketchup smeared at the corner of his mouth.
'I'm not entertaining him,' Sae told himself.
