Work Text:
you both had been riding the whole day, and were now exhausted. so arthur decided that it would be best for the both of you to camp here for the night.
it was a nice and quiet spot somewhere in the heartlands, not too many people around so it was perfect.
"alright, let's camp here for the night, i'll get the campfire going so we can cook some of that rabbit you caught. you can hitch our horses." arthur stated.
you took both of the horses and hitched them to a nearby tree. you sat next to arthur on the ground, and waited patiently for him took cook the said rabbit. when it was done the pair of you had your dinner, it was nice.
arthur sighed and took out his bedroll along with yours, "i think it's time for us to hit the hay then."
"right, goodnight arthur"
you put your bedroll on the ground next to arthur's and you didn't even manage to get in your bedroll when you felt what was no doubt rain on your neck, this was bad.
"shit, looks like rain tonight, get your tent out." arthur said as he was already getting his out, and then eyeing you suspiciously, for not getting yours out, but instead just standing there awkwardly.
"well the thing is, i don't have my tent with me."
you could hear arthur sighing with annoyance as he was putting up his tent, "you can sleep in my tent, just put your bedroll in there, let's hope theres enough room for the both of us."
"well thank you arthur, that's real nice of you." you couldn't hide the smile that was creeping up your face even if you tried.
you both huddled up close, arthur's back against you. he was so close and you weren't complaining the at the least.
with the rain pouring outside, it was getting colder as well and you could feel yourself start to shiver, even with the layers you were wearing and snuggling under the bedroll wasn't helping so you decided to be bold.
"hey arthur, can i hug you?" you asked and arthur wasn't answering for a while, which had you fearing that he was already asleep.
after a short pause came his answer "sure."
with his permisson you slowly slid a hand around his waist and pulled him closer, he was so warm you stopped shivering instantly.
"are you sure this is okay? i don't want you bein' uncomfortable or anythin'" you asked, but instead of answering your question arthur just put his arm over your own, taking your hand in his.
you smiled against his back and whispered a 'goodnight' next to his ear and with the soft pattering of the rain and the sound of his breathing fell asleep.
