Chapter Text

John walked in the library with a spring in his step which was the sign of a good night sleep. Harold could understand. John put Harold’s green tea and a box of donuts on the table. “breakfast of champions”. Harold rolled his eyes a little but took the offerings anyway. John sat down to pet Bear while showering him with compliments. “who’s a good boy? You are. You are the sweetest boy”.

Harold leaned back in his chair and watching John, let the sense of domesticity of this moment wash over him. These moments were alarmingly increasing but Harold didn’t have it in him to care. He had long accepted his feelings for Mr. Reese. Who could blame him really? But he stopped himself and sat straighter again to stop his thoughts from running wild, imagining himself and John in situations that wouldn’t be acceptable. He’ll let go of those reins at night though and allow himself to dream the impossible. Right now though, they had a life to save.

“We have a number.”

John let go of Bear and turned to look at him. “Good. I was getting bored. Who is it?”

“Arthur Pendragon,” Harold got up to put the picture on the glass board. “28, CEO of Camelot Co.”

“Never heard of it.” John tilted his head to the side. Adorable. Harold still managed to raise his eyebrows accusingly at him.

“It is one of the most famous electronics companies in the world. Their main office is in London but they have multiple offices and warehouses in a lot of other places including New York.”

John made a humming sound in acknowledgment. “Alright, a successful businessman. I bet he’s got loads of enemies.”

“You would be correct. There are a lot of business rivals but the question is would any of them go so far as to kill him?” Harold looked at the long list of Mr. Pendragon’s business rivals,

“What about his personal life?” John pulled a chair next to Harold, crowding him. Harold tried to stay focused as he pulled up Arthur’s social media. “He doesn’t have that many friends but the people closest to him are them.” Harold pulled up a picture of Arthur’s birthday. “The old man is Uther Pendragon,”

“The father.” John filled in.

“Yes. The woman is his sister, Morgana Pendragon, also a business woman.” Harold continued.

“Could the threat be from her?” John looked at the fond expression on the woman’s face at her brother but love crimes weren’t uncommon.

“I don’t think so. There didn’t seem to be any bad blood between the brother and sister about him becoming the CEO of their father’s company. Morgana has her own place with the partnership of her fiancé.” Harold pulled pictures of Morgana on the other screen, her social media and company records. “Her company and Camelot work very well together and she doesn’t seem to be in any financial trouble.” Harold answered the question on John’s mind so he nodded and pointed to the man Arthur was holding close in the picture. “And who is that?”

Harold pulled up the guy’s records. “Merlin Emrys, 27, business graduate from Oxford,” Harold gave an approving nod before continuing. “Arthur’s closest friend and confidant. He’s currently working at Camelot Co as Mr. Pendragon’s number one adviser and practically runs the company with him.”

John considered the lanky boy in the picture for a moment. “And we’re sure it can’t be him? If they’re so close it wouldn’t be a problem for him to off our beloved English prince.”

Harold made a disbelieving noise but didn’t argue. “then maybe you should keep an eye on them. They’re staying at Grand Hotel but they’ll eat out.”

“Alright, which rooms are they staying in?” John was already going between the shelves to find the things he needed to wire their rooms. They needed ears in those rooms. “Harold?” John asked the genius again returning with his equipment.

“I don’t think you need all that.” Harold looked back at the screen in front of him. “They’re staying in a king suite. With one bed.” Harold raised an eyebrow which John mirrored. He finally shook his head and chuckled. “Alright, can you make me a door key or do I need to rely on my bad habits of stealing and breaking and entering?”

Harold looked up at him and smiled dangerously. “Too bad we’re invited to a party there or I would have you pull the doorman uniform out the closet again.”

John chose to ignore the second part of that sentence and instead ask, “What party?”

“The reason Mr. Pendragon and Mr. Emrys flew all the way here. A sort of gathering for all the big electronics faces.” Harold looked at the guest list.

“So basically Mr. Pendragon is trapped in a party with all his worst enemies.” John hated that thought.

“Yes and I should start building the identities we are going to be invited as and I believe you have a room to wire, Mr. Reese.” Harold hid behind his monitor again, typing fast.

John couched down to pet Bear again. “See sweetie, papa is throwing daddy out.” Bear huffed and gave John a look which made him laugh. He kissed Bear and walked out the library, leaving Harold to grin foolishly to himself.
