Chapter 1: I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore
Chapter Text
There’s a bang, a blinding light and Jason goes flying backwards.
He blinks rapidly, trying to reorient himself, the ringing in his ears makes it hard to understand, but he recognises the faint sound of screaming over the comms, Oracle trying frantically to get him to respond and report his condition.
He closes his eyes, his vision swimming too much to be of any use and focuses on his other senses, he seems to have crashed into some crates, not quite laying fully on the ground, propped up by the wood, splinters digging into his armor.
Jason winces, his hand coming away bloody from where it was pressing into his side.
A blurry shape fills his vision as it steps closer, revealing the new villain of the week that they had been fighting.
It seemed easy at first, just another upstart who thought Gotham was easy picking.
Only Red Hood and Red Robin were send out to stop him, expecting to be done in time for the -now semi regular- after patrol snacks.
The villain however was prepared, a weapon the Bats had never encountered before and therefore didn’t know how to counter, the fight quickly devolved into a scramble to contain him until backup arrived.
Now Jason was bleeding, but the pain felt far away, everything did, like the world hadn’t quite solidified yet, slipping through his fingers slowly like mist, even as the villain walked towards him.
Each step was deliberate and confident, as if he knew that Red Hood wouldn’t be a threat to him anymore.
He tilted his head, watching as Jason brain caught up with his situation, his perception of the world stabilising, dawning realisation washed over him like ice cold water down his back.
The man raised his weapon with a smile and although Jason’s ears were ringing too loudly to hear what he said, the intent was clear, a last goodbye.
Then everything went white again.
— — — — — — — —
His limbs felt like dead weight, chaining him onto the ground he was resting.
He didn’t know where he was, the shrubbery around him clearly wasn’t Gotham.
His head was pounding, long trained instincts screaming at him to move, that staying down was dangerous, so after a few seconds and a deep breath he rolled onto his stomach, wincing at the sharp pain radiating from his side, pushed himself up with his arms and trying to breathe through the nausea.
After his legs gave out the first time he tried to stand up Jason instead sat on his knees, noting the many differences he had noticed earlier, there was no way it was anywhere near Gotham.
A thick canopy stretched over the sky, blocking out the sun, but the heat surrounding him was an abrupt change from the ever dreary downpour in his home city.
The longer he stayed, the more noise returned to the world around him, critters shuffling through the underbrush and a light breeze rustling the leaves.
The thick armour quickly became uncomfortable, but Jason didn’t feel secure enough to take off him helmet, instead activating his comms and calling out:
“Oracle, this is Red Hood, please come in”
Then when only static returned his request he cursed and switched to the open channel.
“This is Red Hood, can anyone hear me? I don’t know where I am and need immediate assistance”
He swallowed thickly, tightening his fists when even after waiting a minute nobody responded, he’d tried all channels, even his backup comm and the channel of the Outlaws, there was only one option, one he hadn’t used since before his death, the last resort every Bat was taught.
“Superman, I don’t think I’m in Kansas anymore, I need… I need help”
Silence, only the ambience of the loving forest around him to keep him company.
He refused to let himself cry or panic, if not even Superman could find him, he had either been teleported so far off planet that he was out of hearing range, or something had happened and all other heroes were unavailable.
Either way he was on his own, now his priority would be survival.
First Jason finally stood up fully, swaying slightly and gripping a tree for support, then he regarded the wound in his side, he took out his emergency field kit and got to work.
Chapter 2: Clones, and Blaster, and Jedi, oh my!
Summary:
We meet Obi-Wan and Cody, Red Hood makes a discovery
Notes:
Already two comments!! Which means this is getting published earlier, thank you so much :D
Chapter Text
Obi-Wan sighed, the 212nd had been stationed on this planet for a week now, trying to find the droid stronghold that was rumored to be here.
Instead they’d been running around in circles, chasing trails that went cold as soon as they were found.
A clone stormed into the tent that the war room had been set up in.
“General Kenobi! There’s a situation that needs your attention, we discovered someone sneaking around the outskirts of the camp, Commander Cody is already on scene.”
Obi-Wan sprung up from his seat. A person? This planet was said to be uninhabited and so far in the Outer Rim that not even Crime Syndicates cared enough to establish bases here.
“I’m coming, lead the way Trooper”
He followed the frantic clone, matching his fast pace as he reached out to the Force for guidance, a separatist spy perhaps? Were the droid rumours just a trap that was about to be sprung on them?
But the Force answered with a calming assurance that all will end well, with an almost amused undertone, giddy with anticipation for a big change.
Obi-Wan could only trust in the Force and hope for the best.
Quickly they arrived at the edge of camp, the location of the spy? Intruder? easily discernible by the group forming around the tent of curious soldiers.
“Step aside” Obi-Wan ordered calmly, and the clones let him through, parting like water to guarantee a path for their General.
The first thing he noticed as he stepping inside was Cody, looking over his shoulder at him expectantly, as if to say ‘Well, do something about this’
The next was the conflicting force presence of the intruder, that felt like the calm in the storm, confident and unwavering, yet had a simmering anger hidden underneath, feeling foreign and unnatural.
The stare of the stranger was felt on Obi-Wan’s skin, even through the crimson helmet he wore it felt as if he could see into his soul.
He did his best to release his discomfort into the Force, putting on his best ‘Negotiator’ smile and stepping forward to greet him politely.
“Hello there, I am General Obi-Wan Kenobi. May I know your name?”
The man on the chair in front of him was dressed in high grade armour, the only blemish a bandage around his waist that’s slowly being stained by blood.
“You can call me the Red Hood” he answered, ringing true in the Force.
Obi-Wan inclined his head slightly accepting the non answer as what it was. “I hope you’re comfortable. Or at least as much as possible under the circumstances.”
The man’s voice was filled with dry humour. “I’ve had worse rooms.”
“Be that as it may- You’ll have to forgive my curiosity, but you appear on an uninhabited planet with unfamiliar weapons and armour, you wouldn’t happen to be a separatist would you?”
“Actually he doesn’t even seem to know there is a war going on” Cody interrupts
Red Hood nods and the lack of disapproval from his General encourages Cody to continue on.
“We also cross referenced him with all available databases, no match, not with Mandalorians, or even mercenaries. Which matches up with his story”
Obi-Wan raises an eyebrow with a skeptical look.
“You mean to say that you dropped into a galactic war, yet know nothing about it?”
“Yeah, and there’s one problem with this war”, Red Hood says, a deep scowl on his face,”from what I can tell these are Clones, identical Soldiers born and trained to fight, that sounds an awful lot like slaves to me.”
Cody suppressed a wince, many of his men kept resentment for being forced into this, but just as many were thrilled to be able to fight it, with quite a bit of overlap.
Obi-Wan on the other hand didn’t let his silent agreement show.
“We didn’t ask for this army or this war, but it was either become Generals or let other people mistreat them in this war, at least this way we maintain some control over the situation.”
“But that’s not what we’re here to talk about” Cody said, cutting off the glaring match between the other two men in the tent.
“We’re here to learn about you and why you tried to ambush our camp”
“Your people ambushed me, I was just trying to find food”, Red Hood said, irritated as he glances towards Cody, “it’s not like I could have found it at that droid base”
“Droid base?” Obi-Wan exclaimed, “you know where it is”
Red hood somehow gave the distinct impression that he was raising an eyebrow, despite his helmet, and leaned back more confidently now that he had the advantage in information.
“Yeah it’s like 3 click southwest of here, real hard to miss, those things barely ever stop saying ‘Roger, Roger’”. He mocked.
Obi-Wan turns away, walking out deep in thought, with only a brief nod as a passing goodbye.
Cody hurries to follow him out of the tent.
“Sir.”
He said, the statement sounding more like a question, peering at his general in his peripheral vision, just standing beside him.
“He was telling the truth, ready a scout squad to look for the base.”
“Sir.”
He nodded, accepting the order, just as he turned around to leave he looked back once more, scanning Obi-Wan’s face as he gazed into the forest.

Chapter 3: The Escape
Summary:
Because you’ve all been so sweet and leaving nice comments, you’re getting the new chapter early <3
Chapter Text
These idiots, they almost make it too easy, the only guards were the ones guarding the entrance to the tent and they didn’t manage to find any of his hidden weapons, even leaving him with his helmet.
Oh, well, all the easier to flee.
Jason wiggled out his handcuffs, looked around one last time, then took out a switchblade from his boot, flipped it open in a practiced motion and cut through the back side of the tent.
His guns and explosives, which they did confiscate, shouldn’t be far, so he located the most heavily guarded tent, only about ten meters from his position.
Now it was only matter of not being seen, ducking behind trees and bushes whenever another clone in the exact same armor passed by.
Clones. Basically slaves with no way to choose anything but to fight in some politicians war, he supposed it was the same, even in another galaxy.
Politicians start wars, then hide in their luxurious homes while the common man dies in their place.
Only these were child soldiers with no childhood, as one of the guards, the ones at his tent were surprisingly chatty and kind, had bragged about their high scores in the drills of their childhood.
By now he had reached the tent and, after making sure no one was inside, created an opening for himself with knife.
Inside were crates upon crates, some open, showcasing the weapons contained in them, others seemingly being used as a table for battle plans.
A final sweep of the room finally revealed Jason’s guns, and underneath his C4 he saw one of those blasters the clones used and decided he just had to have it.
He picked up the blaster, weighing it in his hands, it had a little less weight to it than the guns he was used to, more streamlined, likely a hand pistol from the size.
His head snapped up when he heard the approaching sound of plastics armor clanging against itself, he quickly made his exit back the way he came, disappearing far enough into the forest to not be seen but still have a full view of the campsite.
Now he still had to get off planet, the General said this planet was uninhabited, meaning he had to steal one of the clones ships or take his chances with the droids.
He kept his head on a swivel as he made his way towards the middle where he thought he had spotted ships earlier, a little before he was discovered.
Just as he remembered, ship after ship, in a neat row, were parked in the middle, some clones lazing around in the midday sun, eating and laughing, some playing a game that almost looked like chess.
That just reminded him of the guards stationed outside his tent again, they had been kind, willing to tell all the things he didn’t know about the war, the Separatists against the Republic, and even slipped in some info about the Jedi, their almost magic like connection to a thing they called the Force, how each clone battalion had a Jedi General.
He would miss Angel and Spark, too bad he didn’t have time to convince them to leave with him.
As he crept closer, he decided on a ship, the farthest from any clones, with enough room around it to lift off easily, not that he thought he’d need it, since this seemed to be another one of those incredible star ships which lift off vertically for some reason.
One last look to make sure the coast was clear, then he sprinted forward, quickly finding the control panel, overriding it with electricity from the knuckle dusters on his gloves, then he was inside.
The ship was small, obviously not made for transporting a ton of things, perhaps just for clone transport based on all the different rooms on the sides that he peeked into quickly, before continuing towards the cockpit.
The cockpit was tight, made of straight lines and harsh edges, fully metal and monochrome, standard issue and not personalized.
The overhead controls pulsed with a faint light, while the control panel, full of button, levers and holographic readouts, glowed steadily.
Jason sat down on the, surprisingly plush and comfortable, chair and tried to make sense of the controls, even spotting something that looked like a targeting system in the corner.
Some things he recognized, such as the navigational computer and a display that read off things like the fuel level, but the things he really needed to get off the ground were the start buttons and a map to find hyperspace coordinates to the nearest planet with a space port.
Once it was all located he started the engines, and tried not to think about the reality of being so far from anyone or anything he knew, stuck in the middle of a war he knew he couldn’t resist getting involved in.

Chapter Text
— — — — —
Obi-Wan sighed, having just hung up a holocall to Duchess Satine, hoping to get insight into this strange rogue Mandalorian who didn’t even know about the ongoing war.
Of course Satine didn’t know anything either, having heard no reports of covens this far into the outer rim.
He supposed this just meant he had to ask this Red Hood himself.
He turned towards the exit of the ten, motioning for Cody to walk with him.
Cody’s head snapped up and he hurried to walk with his General, just a step behind and left of him, the perfect flanking position drilled into any Clone Commander.
“So what’s the plan now, sir?”
Obi-Wan spared a glance towards him before answering.
“Well, my dear, I suppose we’ll have to try to get information directly from the source”
“With all due respect General, Red Hood didn’t seem too friendly towards you, I believe, however, that if we send in the guards stationed outside the tent we will have more luck, he was rather chatty and friendly when talking to them, compared to the permanent scowl whenever you two were in close proximity”
Obi-Wan considered it for a few seconds, which felt like an eternity to Cody, as he starting worrying, perhaps they weren’t as close as he thought, perhaps he had questioned him too much, crossed a line, and now he will be sent back to Kamino for Decommissioning.
Cody straightened when Kenobi finally opened his mouth to speak, bracing for the worst.
“Good thinking Commander, a friendly presence will be more likely to make a Mandalorian talk than Jedi or threats ever will”
Cody let out a breath in relief, his posture slumping ever so slightly and he couldn’t suppress a little pleased smile.
He walked a little confidently the rest of the way, even if it was spent in silence.
They arrived at the tent swiftly and asked Angel and Spark to continue the interrogation, giving them a few pointers on what to ask.
But only seconds after they entered, Spark came back out, looking shocked and quite nervous.
“What is the matter Trooper?”
“Uhm sir…? The Red Hood is gone”
Both Cody’s and Obi-Wan’s eyes widened in shock, gone? They quickly went inside to double check and, just as Spark had said, he was gone, a newly cut exit flapping in the wind.
Their eyes met, this wasn’t good, a potentially hostile Mandalorian whose opinion of Jedi had deteriorated before their very eyes, there was no doubt he would somehow get involved, this wouldn’t be the last they had seen or heard of him.

Can’t believe so many people have already seen this story, wow
These first few chapters are coming fast so I’m posting them in hopes of keeping motivation to write, but I don’t promise any consistency!!

Chapter Text
Jason hummed along to a pop song he had heard from Cass during on of their recent spars as he flipped levers and checked displays, having dropped out of hyperspace just seconds prior.
He had found a place called Black Spire Outpost on the maps of the ships computer and, after disabling all trackers of course, made his way there, deciding his first order of business should be ditching the ship.
From what he had read up on during the, surprisingly short, hyperspace time, it was described as being ‘a thriving spaceport for smugglers, rogue traders, and adventurers traveling between the galactic frontier and uncharted space.’
When the cities on the planet surface came into view, he saw many houses, each with domes of varying sizes, with plant lives that looked appropriate for a jungle back on earth sprinkled in between.
He was soon contacted from the city and directed towards a docking port on the ground.
He stepped off the ship and was immediately confronted by an incessantly beeping droid, who took a payment of credits that Jason had found on the ship.
Jason smiled as the droid bustled on, off to his next task. He sighed, dropping the smile and shoving his hands into his pockets.
Now he would have to find shops, perhaps some more… inconspicuous weapons, since his guns had gotten a lot of attention from the clones.
He walked down the alleyways, scanning both locals and shops, minding his own business, until he was stopped dead in his tracks, there, not 10 meters down the street was a table of clones, out of armor, with not a single Jedi or rest of a battalion in sight.
He crept closer, feigning interest in the stands on the street, until he was close enough to overhear their conversation.
After about ten minutes of inconspicuously creeping around the area and listening in Jason was sure of a few things:
First, these clones were not part of any battalion
Neither were they waiting for some Jedi or other General.
In fact, it seemed as though they had gone rogue entirely
And lastly, this was exactly the in he needed to establish himself and learn more about this new galaxy.
So, he straightened up and made his way over to the table.
— — — — —
The four clones, Glitch, Flint, Kilo and Vex, were amazing conversationalists and willing to tell him all things considered common knowledge by others (or in their words ‘nat-borns’).
His story of getting captured by the clone battalion and Jedi had earned him a round of laughs and a slap on the back by Vex.
They told him that who he encountered was the 212th Attack Battalion, that there was a war between the Separatists and Republic, clones against droids on the battlefield, how their group had been left behind by their general and they were the only four who survived, they told a story of discrimination and rigorous training in their youth, of fear of failure and of decommissioning.
In turn Jason gave his own story, he told of his childhood living with an addict mother, of his time homeless, of being giving a better chance that didn’t last long, of not being saved in time and of training with a woman who taught him to kill too early, yet still regarded him as her son, he told of going back, of wanting revenge, of establishing a criminal empire.
Although he left out a few things, such as his death and subsequent revival and his crime fighting days with Bruce, he could tell that so did they and neither side would take it badly.
Once they had shared all they felt inclined to over a few drinks, Jason asked the question he had been thinking about this whole time, he said he wanted to establish another criminal empire here, the same as back home, and asked if they had any interest in joining him, in helping in exchange for a salary, for protection and for the opportunity to help more of their brothers.
Notes:
A shorter chapter, I know, but I needed to establish a few things, because I was stuck, so now we can continue on, please comment your thoughts and ideas if you have any!! I’d love to hear feedback too

Chapter Text
The holo call started and Mace Windu could already tell something was different this time about Obi-Wan’s report, too many shatter points hung in the balance.
After the regular pleasantries Yoda finally asked the question:
“Obi-Wan, much to tell, I sense you have”
“Yes, Master Yoda, a lot has happened, while we were still for the droid outpost, our guards apprehended someone sneaking around the edges of camp, a rogue Mandalorian of some sort”
This alone caused an uptick in murmurs, Mandalorian and Jedi do not tend to get along very well, but a single one somehow on the same planet as their ‘Negotiator’, a face of their war effort? That could not be a simple coincidence, especially this far in the Outer Rim, almost in Wild Space.
After the Counsel calmed down a little, Obi-Wan continued.
“But he didn’t seem to want to fight, in fact he came willingly, even let us take some of his weapons, armed with technology we’ve never seen, they were ballistic weapons, primitive but effective. He gave us the name Red Hood, but seemed to bear no clan insignia, beside a shape across his chest.”
Maces brows furrowed, every word out of Kenobis mouth adding another laying of mystery to this already unusual situation.
“We found no record of him anywhere, no sightings, nothing with his name, not on the holonet, not even the Duchess had heard of him, even though she does her best to keep track of covens and other traditionalists.
He also did not seem to know much about, well, anything, he was unaware of the war, of the clones, even of Jedi, when he was informed of these things he seemed to take an issue with the clones and there use in the war, holding himself rather hostile towards me, and even a bit towards Commander Cody, when he came to the Jedis defense”
Mace, along with other members of the counsel, turned to Yoda, looking to him for advice, as the oldest member of the counsel, he knew the most about the Mandalorians, remembering times of tentative peace and times of war.
“Hmm, troubling, this is, entered the war, a new player has”
Yoda said, resting his hands on his cane.
“You believe he will become big enough to cause us trouble? From what it sounds like he doesn’t have any allies, nor does he have weapons.”
Ki-Ad-Mundi questioned hesitantly.
“The Force shows a big change in the near future, a lot of shatter points are congregating”
Mace added, ignoring the way that everyone’s eyes turned to him.
Yoda nodded appreciatively in his direction.
“Correct, Mace Windu is, trust in the Force we must, lead us it will”
With those words as a last statement, Yoda hopped off his seat, started hobbling away and stooped just before the door, to turn around to the room.
“May the Force be with you”
The sentiment was echoed by the room, holograms of Jedi masters such as Kenobi and Shaak Ti turning off, while the Jedi physically present, rose, to also make their way out of the room.
— — — — —
The group of clones had been nothing but helpful, walking him through selling his ship, letting him stay with them for protection and a small amount of the credits he got from the ship.
While Kilo was still skeptical, and the other two had kept out of it for the most part, Vex had become a companion that Jason trusted fully, getting on like a house on fire within a few hours of meeting, Vex was brash, unafraid to voice his opinion and more than willing to spar with Jason, something he hadn’t realized he had been missing already, in the few days since arriving in this galaxy.
Together they had established themselves, offering protection from the more ruthless of the pirates that lurked around the system, but keeping out of business as usual of the Hutts and other cartels, until he saw the first slave being sold, from then all bets were off.
He couldn’t attack the Hutts, he had not the resources, nor the weapons to overcome them, the people they sold to however? They were fair game.
Jason was strategic about it, he observed, made note of their habits, and prioritized, as much as it pained him to do so.
The majority had ended up with one guy, a semi-rich entrepreneur who, according to what Glitch, the appropriately named slicer of the group, had been able to dig up, liked showing off his wealth, living beyond his means.
The newest way he wanted to was apparently with an array of slaves for his guests to choose from.
Despicable, to do this to a sentient person, to keep them in storage like some jewel, and only take them out to show off to guests.
That alone would be enough to guarantee his death, but there were reports of drugs being used to subdue them in “storage”.
Jason takes a deep breath, through his mouth, out of his nose, opens his eyes and refocuses on the entrepreneur.
No need to get angry yet, he will pay soon.
Red Hood dons his helmet and flies down, kicking in the window as he goes, taking out two guards during the shocked silence that ensues.
The third guard recovers and start yelling, pointing his blaster at him, each shot is clumsy and unsure, a new hire, perhaps, so Red Hood just knocks him out quickly and makes his way down to the basement.
A familiar sight greets him, too many bodies in a too small space, stale and dirty, with no natural light.
He reminds himself, he has a purpose here, he isn’t a kid anymore, in crime alley, picked up by some John, too frail to fight back, he isn’t chained up, isn’t scared and can fight back now.
It isn’t dark, cold, wet, too little, lonely-
He’s okay.
He walks towards the nearest prisoner, a female twi’lek, no older than 12, with deep purple skin, washed out by the poor lighting, her lekkus twitching in apprehension as she watches his careful approach.
Jason crouches down so their eye to eye, hoping she understands basic, he speaks.
“Hey, I’m Jason, what’s your name?”
Then when she doesn’t respond, just does her best to press herself further into the wall.
“Alright fair, how about we get those chains off of you?”
She timidly shakes her head, speaking in a voice cracking from disuse- at least he hopes that’s where it’s from.
“The chips”
She’s right, the slave chips would have been a problem, but let’s just say, the security on the entrepreneurs office was even more lax than on this compound, and the remote control was already in Jason’s hands.
He handed the control over to her, letting her examine it until he was confident she wouldn’t attack if he moved for ward to snap her chains.
Once she was freed he moved on to the other slaves, some level of trust already established due to them watching his interaction with the little girl.
One by one he gently broke their chains, then led them up out of the compound, towards speeders that would take them to the nearest space port, each outfitted with some cash and change to get off planet, however there was a slight delay, the twi’lek girl and a slightly older tusken boy had decided they would not leave his side.
They clung to him, and, quite frankly, he could not find it in him to push them off, to tell them to leave, so he picked up the little girl, who quietly told him that her name was Tann, which meant Hope, and led the tusken boy, Kortawa, by the jeans, back to where he was staying with the clone squad.
Notes:
Sorry this took so long, I didn’t want to leave it with only the Jedi POV but couldn’t continue, nor figure out how to establish Red Hood as a crime lord, I also want to do a bit of a time skip, so tell me if you want that or Jason and his new kids bonding
Chapter 7: Bonding
Notes:
I am so sorry this took so long but I had already written the chapter when all of my notes app since February was deleted suddenly?? And I had to rewrite it (at least I managed to make it a little better)

Chapter Text
He woke up to the steady pitter-patter of rain on the window, the sky washed orange and pink by the slowly emerging sun.
Throwing the blanket off of himself and sitting up, he surveyed the room, the couch he was sitting on, the living room shelves that were filled with knick-knacks, and the connected kitchen, all bathed in the soft early morning light.
Jason stretched, listening to the cracks coming from his joints, he had been neglecting his usual exercises and was starting to regret it.
His days were instead filled with caring for the two kids he had acquired instead.
Which reminded him to check if they were awake yet, they had planned some things for today, and they should eat some breakfast before they left.
He walked over to their bedroom door on silent feet and knocked twice.
“Kortawa? Tann? Are you awake?”
After a groan and some shuffling around, someone walked up to open the door and Tann poked her face out to stare up at Jason.
“Good M’rning”
He smiled and returned the greeting, stepping to the side so both kids could walk out.
Kortawa grabbed his hand to get his attention and signed the same greeting he gave every morning, Jason assumed it meant Good morning followed by his name, considering the second part was used to address him quite often.
Jason clumsily signed good morning back and followed Kortawa into the kitchen when he turned away.
The kids had both claimed a seat at the table and were watching as Jason moved around the kitchen, humming a Romani lullaby he often heard from Dick, as he cooked breakfast.
He weighed out ingredients and mixed them, creating a batter for some traditional Mandalorian sweet cakes, similar to the pancakes he knew from back home.
Tann swung her legs, her eyes tracking his every move, even as he brought over the plates of food.
He patted her head with a chuckle and gave her a portion of the food, then split the rest between himself and Kortawa.
They ate in silence, just enjoying the quiet morning.
— — — — —
They arrived at the cafe too soon in Jason’s opinion.
Waiting for them was an adult Tusken man, sitting at a table with a half empty drink in his hand, he waved them over.
They all sat down, Kortawa bounding over excitedly, but Jason followed at a more sedate pace, pulling Kortawa into his lap and refusing to let go.
— — — — —
Tann dragged him by the hand towards a sweet shop, and although Jason knew that giving them sugar now would end up with very hyperactive kids very soon he just couldn’t say no when they looked up at him with those puppy dog eyes.
He sighed.
“Alright, I’ll give you some credits, and you can buy sweets, but share with each other!”
The kids bounded off into opposite directions with a devious giggle escaping Tann, and Jason already regretted all his choices leading up to this moment.
— — — — —
“Uhhh…”
Jason blinked rapidly, not believing his eyes.
“Wow… that’s… unexpected for sure”
Vex agreed, unable to look away from the scene unfolding in front of them.
Kortawa was snuggling up to a juvenile Canyon Kraytdragon.
Tann ran up to them enthusiastically, just barely managing to skid to a stop before crashing into them, and cuddling up to both.
“…Does this mean we have a dragon now?”
Jason wondered out loud
“Well at least this is the smaller breed of Krayts”
Vex looked just as baffled as him.
— — — — —
Jason sat on the couch in their living room, finally back home, Tann, on one side, doing her best to poke at Kortawa, who sat on his other side.
A smile stretched across his face as he watched the two banter for a little longer, before cuddling up to him.
He kissed the top of Tann’s head and squeezed Kortawa’s shoulder.
“Well I sure hope you had fun today”
