Gavin Reed, born and raised in the worst district of Detroit, had spent his whole life around those struggling to survive. With unyielding determination he eventually became one of the few detectives for the entire district, compelled to help keep the area safe.
When a dead body turns up, Gavin as usual, goes to investigate. In Bower district, a lot of dead bodies turned up, nothing peculiar about that. But this one was decidedly odd. And that wasn't all-- there was someone already at the scene when there shouldn't be.
Somewhere God was laughing at him bringing back the one person he'd grown to loathe for nearly 20 years.
The friend who betrayed him was the last person Gavin ever wanted to see again, and unlucky for him, his once-friend was hired to investigate the dead man who met his end in Bower district.
When similar deaths start stacking up, Gavin begrudgingly works together with the PI only out of sheer stubbornness to find the culprit. But as the investigation continues it becomes obvious there is something off about how these people are dying... because why the hell did it look as if they'd been frightened to death?
