Work Text:

After six amazing years together, Luffy and Law had settled into a happy, balanced rhythm in their shared home. Despite being so different, they didn’t clash; instead, they brought out the best in each other. Luffy, who was naturally a bit messy, had even started keeping things tidier, while Law took charge of the cooking since Luffy couldn’t manage a meal without somehow burning it. Living together had only brought them closer, and recently, Luffy had started thinking about what the next step in their relationship might look like. He’d quietly considered it for a while and felt ready to make a move.

One evening, Law was home on call from the hospital, allowed to stay in as long as he didn’t get an urgent call. They sat together in the kitchen, eating a simple dinner of salad that Law had prepared. The usual calm filled the room until Luffy, who had been quietly turning something over in his mind, looked up.

“Hey, Torao,” he said, pushing his empty plate to the side, “have you ever thought about marriage?”

Law was so taken aback that he choked on his lettuce, trying to breathe as he reached for a glass of water. “What… where’d that come from?” he managed, coughing slightly.

Luffy chuckled, watching Law with a mix of amusement and a hint of nerves. “I don’t know,” he shrugged, “it’s just been on my mind lately.”

When Law finally gathered himself, he looked at Luffy, a bit serious. “I mean… we’ve been together a long time, and yeah, I’ve thought about it too,” he admitted cautiously. “But you’re only 25, Luffy. Don’t you think that might be a little young?”

Luffy frowned, his brows knitting together. “What does age have to do with it?” he said. “If I know I want to be with you forever, then why wait?”

Law’s heart raced at Luffy’s honesty. Only Luffy could say something so bold without a second thought. Flustered, Law rubbed the back of his neck, feeling his face warm. “You… you can’t just say things like that so easily,” he muttered, looking away.

“Why not? It’s true!” Luffy laughed, reaching over and giving Law’s hand a quick, reassuring squeeze.

Law couldn’t help but admire that openness, even if it always caught him off guard. For him, saying how he felt was never quite that simple. “Besides,” he added, standing to clear the dishes, “you should enjoy life a little longer, you know?”

"That’s not fair!" Luffy groaned, clearly frustrated. "Why do you get to decide that for me?"

Law sighed, trying to stay calm. "I’m not deciding for you," he said gently. "But marriage… it’s a big step."

"So, would you say no if I asked?" Luffy shot back, sounding hurt.

"Don’t twist my words," Law replied, feeling caught off guard by the sudden intensity.

"Fine, whatever," Luffy muttered, standing up abruptly and heading to the bedroom, closing the door with a bit more force than usual. Law watched him go, a pang of regret settling in his chest.

As he finished tidying up, Law couldn’t shake Luffy’s words. He’d always imagined they’d talk about marriage someday, but he hadn’t expected it to come up so soon. He remembered how he’d felt when they first moved in together, picturing a life where they’d grow old side by side. Now, six years in, he realized he might’ve been avoiding this conversation longer than he’d realized.

When Law finally went into the bedroom, he found Luffy curled up under the blankets, a small lump in the bed. Smiling softly, he sat beside him, placing a gentle hand on the blanket-covered form of his boyfriend.

“Luffy, don’t be like this,” he murmured, trying to coax him out. “You know I love you. We don’t need a piece of paper to prove that.”

From beneath the covers, Luffy shifted, his voice muffled but clearly upset. “But why don’t you want to marry me? You didn’t think Ace was too young when he married Marco at 27,” he mumbled.

Slowly, Luffy peeked out from under the blanket, sitting up with a softened frown, though a hint of hurt still showed in his eyes.

“Ace and Marco are different,” Law sighed, understanding how much Luffy admired his brother. Ace had always been someone Luffy looked up to, and Law knew how much his choices influenced him.

In a quieter, less defensive tone, Luffy said, “It’s not about age, Torao. There’s no rule for this. It’s just about how you feel.”

Law paused, realizing Luffy had a point. “And I’m mad because you didn’t even say you’d say yes if I asked,” Luffy mumbled, looking away.

Law chuckled softly. “You really think I’d say no? When have I ever told you ‘no’?” He gently lifted Luffy’s chin so they could meet each other’s eyes. “Of course I’d say yes, Luffy. You’re my person.”

Luffy’s frown faded as he looked up, his face softening. “You’d really say yes?” he asked, his voice quiet.

“I would,” Law said, pressing a gentle kiss to Luffy’s forehead. “Because, as you already know, I love you.”

“I love you too,” Luffy whispered, his face brightening. He leaned in, kissing Law deeply, as if to show just how much he meant it. Law wrapped his arms around him, pulling him close and feeling the tension between them fade away as they held each other.

Law gently pulled him closer, guiding Luffy to lie on top of him, and the younger man happily obliged. Once Luffy settled against him, Law placed his hand on the back of his neck, pulling him in to deepen the kiss, while Luffy held onto Law’s shirt for support.

As they held each other, Luffy grinned mischievously, tracing his fingers along Law’s chest. “You only come in here to comfort me so you can get your way, don’t you?”

“Don’t know what are you talking about” Law replied, smirking as he pulled him in for another kiss, glad for the laughter that replaced their earlier frustrations.

He started kissing Luffy’s neck, biting and sucking just in that spot where he knew his boyfriend was sensitive. This caused the younger to gasp audibly and, in response, Luffy rolled his hips towards Law’s. He whined, lifting himself for more friction.

“What did you said before?” said Luffy laughing, but he rolled his hips again, moving with a little bit more pressure to give his boyfriend what he wanted.

Law moaned softly against Luffy’s neck again, and the younger took it as an invitation to continue, to keep grinding against him like that. Law continued to kiss him passionately on the neck and in his jawline, something that Luffy really liked, before finally capturing his lips in a deep, heated kiss.

“Take of your clothes, I want to touch you” Law asked with low tone, between kisses.

Luffy moaned. He loved it when Law got possessive with him. Usually, it was the other way around, and Luffy really enjoyed seeing his boyfriend being a whimpering mess underneath him. Law also liked it when Luffy was rough with him—he loved being manhandled, pushed around, and all that kind of stuff. But sometimes, Luffy liked letting Law take control too.

“Sure, baby” Luffy took off his shirt and urged Law to do the same. He let his fingers trace lightly across Law's skin, feeling the warmth beneath. This action made Law sigh audibly, and Luffy smiled cheekily at the gesture.

Law pushed him into the bed and kissed him hard again. He started unbuttoning Luffy’s jeans and Luffy shivered in anticipation, eager for what was coming next.

But just then, Law’s hospital phone buzzed loudly, breaking the moment.

“Are you fucking kidding me,” Law groaned, reluctantly pulling away from Luffy. Sighing, Luffy sat in bed, the frustration clear in his face. Of course, he thought, cockblocked by the hospital.

Law picked up the phone and answered, “Hello, yes, it’s me… Okay, yes… yeah, I can be there in about half an hour. Yes, Dr. Kureha, see you soon.” His face tightened slightly as he realized his boss had called him for a unique emergency case, something urgent enough to need his immediate attention in the OR. He knew he couldn’t say no.

He turned to Luffy, who sat cross-legged on the bed, arms crossed with a dramatic frown. His flushed face made him look both frustrated and irresistible. The sight alone sent a warm sensation to Law’s lower stomach.

“Oh, fuck it,” he muttered, giving in to impulse. He leaned back in, kissing Luffy deeply. Luffy blinked in surprise but eagerly responded, matching his intensity.

“Wasn’t that your boss?” he teased
between kisses, amused by Law’s sudden change of heart.

“She can wait a few more minutes, it was not that urgent,” Law replied, his hands moving to pull Luffy into the bed, positioning himself just above Luffy’s hips as he leaned down.

“Fine by me,” Luffy laughed, wrapping his legs around Law to urge him on. “Just be quick about it.”

Later that night, while Law was at the hospital likely focused on some complex surgery, Luffy lay in their bed holding a small box. He carefully opened it to look at the ring he’d picked out—simple, elegant, and perfect for Law. It wasn’t flashy, just like him.

Luffy had imagined proposing on their sixth anniversary, which was coming up soon. His plan had been to feel out how Law felt about marriage tonight, just to see if he was as ready as Luffy was. But after Law’s reaction, he started to doubt his timing. He didn’t want to rush Law into something he wasn’t fully ready for.

Luffy sighed softly, wondering why Law might be holding back. Was he just cautious about marriage, or was he unsure if Luffy was truly ready?

With a sigh, Luffy tucked the ring box back into its hiding spot—the drawer with his video games—and slid under the covers. He’d give it more time, let Law take things at his own pace. For now, he’d try to get some sleep, thoughts of the ring and the future drifting in his mind as he finally dozed off.

After that, Luffy tried dropping little hints about marriage, but every time he brought it up, Law skillfully changed the subject. Whether it was about a new surgery he was handling, a book he’d just started, or even reorganizing the pantry, Law seemed intent on avoiding the conversation. It left Luffy feeling more unsure than ever.

On the evening of their anniversary, Luffy was a bundle of nerves. He’d made a reservation at a cozy restaurant with warm lighting and private booths—the perfect setting for a quiet, special moment. He planned to propose after dessert, knowing that a low-key setting would be best. Law hated too much attention, and Luffy didn’t want to risk him getting nervous and leaving before he could even ask.

As they walked into the softly lit restaurant, Luffy’s fingers brushed against the small ring box hidden in the pocket of his black leather jacket. He’d dressed up for the occasion: a deep blue turtleneck that complemented his usual warmth, paired with black pants, boots, and his leather jacket to add a bit of edge. Law looked effortlessly cool as always, in a relaxed black sweater, a long trench coat, loose black pants, and silver rings that caught the light.

They started with crisp salads, then had a perfectly cooked steak for Luffy and seared fish for Law. Normally, they’d be chatting, laughing, and even sneaking bites from each other’s plates. But tonight felt a bit different. The longer the evening went on, the more nervous Luffy became, and every time he thought about reaching for the ring after dessert, a wave of doubt would wash over him. Law, picking up on his distraction, nudged him a few times, raising an eyebrow, silently asking what was on his mind.

“You sure everything’s okay?” Law asked once, his gaze thoughtful.
Luffy forced a smile and shrugged. “Yeah, I’m good,” he replied, trying to focus on the food. But he could tell Law wasn’t entirely convinced.

When dessert arrived—a beautifully plated chocolate mousse—Luffy made up his mind: tonight wasn’t the right time. Even though he wanted to propose, the tension between them just didn’t feel right.

After finishing dessert, Luffy excused himself to go to the bathroom. He splashed some water on his face and took a deep breath. "It’s okay," he thought to himself. "There’s always another time."

When he came back out, Law was already waiting for him at the door, holding out Luffy’s jacket. “I paid already,” Law said casually.

Luffy groaned, slipping on his jacket. “Why do you always do that? I was supposed to treat you tonight!”

Law just ruffled his hair with a small smile. “Don’t be silly. It’s all the same money in the end, right?” With that, they headed out, deciding to take a quiet walk before going home.

They finally arrived back home, where Luffy expected they’d go straight to the bedroom, hoping to unwind and maybe save the night with some sex. But Law had other plans. Instead of heading down the hall, he went over to the couch, sat down, and gave Luffy a small but inviting smile, patting the spot next to him.

“Come here,” Law said, his voice gentle but his expression serious. Luffy’s heart skipped a beat; this wasn’t their usual routine after a night out, and he felt a mix of curiosity and nervousness as he crossed the room. He could still feel the weight of the ring box in his jacket pocket as he sat down beside Law.

“Alright, what’s going on?” Law asked, his tone sharp but concerned. “And if you say ‘nothing’ again, I’m going to punch you in the face,” he added, catching Luffy just as he opened his mouth to protest.

“But… it is nothing,” Luffy mumbled, trying to keep his voice steady. Yet, he couldn’t bring himself to look at Law and stared at anything else in the living room—the bookshelves, the lamp, even a stray sock on the floor (probably his fault).

“Bullshit,” Law said firmly. “Something’s up, and it’s got to do with us. Did I… do something wrong?” His voice softened, just slightly uncertain.

“No, you didn’t do anything wrong! It’s me,” Luffy blurted out, instantly regretting the words as Law’s eyes narrowed in curiosity.

“You? Care to explain?” Law asked, his tone making it clear he wasn’t letting this go.
Luffy took a deep breath.

“I… I was planning to say something today, but I just… didn’t. It’s stupid,” he muttered, his cheeks tinged with embarrassment. “It’s my fault for overthinking it, I guess.”

“Luffy,” Law said softly, leaning a little closer, trying to catch his eye. “Forget it,” Luffy insisted, shrugging off the moment. “It’s nothing important, really. Can we just change the subject?”

But Law held his gaze, voice steady as he said, “Ask me.”

Luffy blinked in surprise, finally looking up at Law. “What?”

“Ask me,” Law repeated, this time with a slight smile. “I saw the ring in your pocket.”

Luffy’s heart stopped for a moment, his face heating up as he stammered, “You did what?!”

“When I grabbed your jacket when we were leaving, I noticed something… so I peeked,” Law admitted, a hint of embarrassment coloring his own cheeks.

Luffy’s eyes widened. “Why would you do that?!”

Law sighed, crossing his arms a little defensively. “Because you never carry anything in your jacket pockets! It caught my attention, okay?”

Luffy groaned, hiding his face in his hands. “I can’t believe this is happening. I just want to disappear right now…”

“Luffy, come on,” Law coaxed, reaching out to gently pull Luffy’s hands away from his face. “Look at me.”

Luffy hesitated but eventually met Law’s gaze, finding his boyfriend’s expression softer than he’d expected.

“Ask me,” Law repeated quietly, his eyes warm.

Luffy swallowed, still uncertain. “I don’t want to pressure you…”

“Luffy,” Law interrupted gently, squeezing his hand. “I’m asking you to ask me.”

Luffy took a deep breath, his nerves settling a little as he reached into his jacket pocket, pulling out the small ring box. He held Law’s hand tightly, their fingers entwined as he opened the box between them.

“Torao,” he said, voice low but clear, “will you marry me?”

For a second, Law didn’t say anything. Then, a smile spread across his face—a rare, genuine smile that made Luffy’s heart race even faster. To Luffy, it was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.

“Of course I will,” Law replied, his voice full of warmth.

At that moment, Luffy felt like he could burst with happiness. With a wide grin, he launched himself into Law’s arms, who caught him just in time before they both toppled back onto the couch, laughing.

“Are you kidding me? After all the drama the other day? I thought you didn’t even want to marry me!” Luffy exclaimed, covering Law’s face with a flurry of kisses.

Law chuckled, his fingers tracing soothing lines through Luffy’s hair. “I did some thinking too, and you were right,” he admitted. “I wanted to get married, but somehow, I thought I was ‘protecting’ you… or some bullshit like that.”

“Protecting me?” Luffy grinned, leaning into Law’s touch. “Sure thing, old man.”

“Idiot,” Law replied, flicking Luffy’s forehead with a laugh. “Maybe you’d rather wait to marry me once I’m a proper old man.”

“Don’t be ridiculous—I’d still love you even if you were a grandpa,” Luffy teased, earning himself a quick tickle from Law that made him squirm. They stayed tangled up on the couch for a while, sharing laughs and gentle kisses, basking in the warmth and excitement of the moment.

After a while, Law looked down at his bare hand and raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t you going to put the ring on me?”

“Oh! Right, of course!” Luffy scrambled up, grabbing the small box he’d set aside on the coffee table, then returned to his fiancé’s side with a grin.

Law sat up, watching as Luffy carefully took his hand, slipping the ring onto his finger with a tenderness that made Law’s chest tighten. Luffy finished with a soft kiss on the ring, then looked up at him with sparkling eyes.

“It’s perfect. Thank you, baby,” Law murmured, admiring the ring for a moment, the sight bringing an uncharacteristically bright smile to his face.

“Love you,” Luffy said, his gaze soft as he admired the way the ring suited Law’s hand so well.

“Love you too,” Law replied, returning the warmth in Luffy’s gaze with one of his rare full smiles.

“Let me take a picture! I have to show everyone after all the times I talked their ears off about this,” Luffy said, already reaching for his phone. Law groaned, but he didn’t protest as Luffy grabbed his hand and took a quick selfie. Just as the camera clicked, Luffy leaned in to steal a kiss, capturing the moment.

“You’re the worst,” Law muttered, but his half-smile betrayed him.

Ignoring him, Luffy quickly sent the picture with the caption, “Guess who said yes!!!!!!!” to both his friends and the group chat with Ace and Sabo. Almost immediately, responses poured in, ranging from congratulations to playful jabs, making Luffy laugh as he read through them.

“Alright, enough of that,” Law said, sitting on Luffy’s lap and wrapping his legs around his waist. Luffy grinned and tossed the phone aside, his full attention now on his fiancé.

“Show me how happy you are,” Law whispered against Luffy’s lips.

“With pleasure,” Luffy replied, wrapping his arms around Law and lifting him up with ease as he headed to the bedroom. Despite being taller, Law couldn’t match Luffy’s strength, and he let out a surprised laugh as he was carried, wrapped securely in Luffy’s arms.

The night felt perfect—two people who’d built a life together, now sharing the joy of a promise for the future.
