Chapter 1: 00; Ravens & Crows

Chapter Text

The ravens are restless this morning, they can barely keep their beaks shut, making so much mess with their vexatious, little voices.

« Come on, boys, what the hell is going on now? »
Her voice is trying to be calm, trying to not irritate her feather-friends even more.
« I can’t even understand you, if you’re shouting like that! »
A sigh escapes her lips, putting on her leather gloves, letting one of them perch on one of her arms.
« What’s wrong, mh…? »
She asks her favorite one, facing it properly at the same level of her eyes. The same moment, the Nest’s door opens, announcing the house-guard.

« Mistress? »
A familiar voice calls for her, this time he chooses the neighbour’s; an inquisitive gaze peers over her shoulder, with his pointed beak.
« Your Father sends his regards. »
This time, his voice is from her dad.

« ‘morning, Athelas. »
She greets her bigger black-feather friend, the guard of her family Manor… a Kenku.
« The birds are restless today. Care to lend me a hand? »
The big bird jumps toward her, oozing at the little ones still in their nest, while the girl steps closer to the door, her attention caught by the sky, her look darkens a bit: she can tell something will go wrong.

« Athelas…? »
She calls, shifting her head a bit, enough to look at him in the corner of her eyes.
« Yes, Mistress? »
Athelas says, his black eye snoops towards the feminine voice outside the Nest, his attention is all hers.

« Stop calling me like that, it’s weird. »
The wood-elf says, with a light chuckle, turning her head to the sky again, her crow still standing on her arm. The look on her face becomes more serious, when the clouds start to move, in a way she has never seen before; her senses are all on the alert.
A rumble of a thunder crack the sky, but she doesn’t make time to do nothing: something like a star-ship emerges from the darkness, with plenty of tentacles around the ship body.
The moment the crow flies away, the young elf is gone.

Dark.
It’s all she can see.
Fear.
It’s all she can feel.
