And so they sat on the roof of the tallest, though old, apartment building – with no permission to be there, sipping the cheapest beer from the corner store near their decent neighborhood. The beer tasted more like water than anything alcoholic. They were watching the sunset, admiring how the sky turned shades of yellow and orange, feeling like they were in some American movie, even though they were in Korea.
“So… are we finally happy? You’ve got a partner, life’s coming together. It can only get better now, right?” he asked with a smile on his face, looking at him. But he just shook his head with a mocking grin, like he’d just heard the dumbest thing in the world, which made the other one frown in confusion.
“It can’t only get better. It can only get worse,” he said, and there was a flash of madness in his eyes. He slowly reached into the pocket of his suit pants, pulling something out.
“Just guess who it’s gonna get worse for,” he added, a crazy smile creeping across his lips. He pressed the gun to his temple, still holding the beer in his other hand.
“You bitch,” he hissed through his teeth and those were his last words before the gunshot.
