Work Text:

It was an amazing day, and Kevin was proud of what they achieved. They rented this beautiful castle to finally shoot their music video and even though it was already late in the night and he felt exhausted, he also felt happy. Well, kinda. A little something was off. The whole shoot was going incredibly well, the crew was lovely as always, the camera work was on point, and everyone had such a good time and was just plain excited for the final results. Except for one person. Kevin couldn’t help but notice that Danskimo didn’t seem himself today. Of course, he was professional and performed like a legend but still he was distant and not at the centre of fun as everyone else. So while the band and crew celebrated their successful wrap with some cold beer, the tall singer immediately caught attention that Dan tried to sneak out as unseen as possible into the dark night.

He couldn’t pretend he hasn’t noticed it especially now that Kevin got seriously worried about his friend, that there might be something wrong with him. So he decided to check on him, excused himself from the little party they had and slipped through the door outside.

The sky was clear and full of stars and he felt the cold night breeze in his face. Kevin took a deep breath. The fresh air really felt good after so many hours indoors, working with so many people in the same room. He casually brushed his hair out of his face that a sudden gust of wind had placed there. The moon was nearly full, so it didn't take long until his eyes got used to the darkness. And there on the stone balustrade he saw a shadow, that he instantly recognized as his favourite guitarist.

Carefully watching his steps in the dark Kevin slowly walked towards the blonde one. Dan was sitting with his back to the castle and seemingly watching the landscape which was dipped in darkness. He looked quite peaceful when he suddenly turned his head around on the sound of approaching steps.

“Hey. Not partying with the others?” The guitarist asked. Kevin reached the balustrade and now clumsily tried to climb over it to have a seat next to him.

“I wanted to ask you the same,” said Kevin, finally arranging his limbs and dangling his long legs from the other side of the obstacle and casually adding: “What’s the matter?”

Dan turned his eyes from Kevin again to the dark landscape and after a little sigh answered: “Nothing.”

“C’mon, man,” the singer chuckled and stumped his elbow gently into the others side, “You know you can tell me anything.”

But the blonde man stayed serious and kept looking into the distance. Silence. Kevin already doubted he’d receive an answer and thought about what to say next and how to convince his friend to talk to him, when the other turned his head and looked at him.

Slightly sighing he said under his breath: “I don’t like it” and averted his eyes.

Kevin was startled. What did he mean by that? They had such great day of filming, their careers were skyrocketing and their newest music kicked ass! What wasn’t there to like about? He really couldn’t wrap his head around what he just heard.

“Wh.. What do you mean?” he asked hesitantly.

“I don’t know... like...”

Now the singer got irritated. He was curious what this mumbling was all about but also too impatient for further vague stuttering: “Spit it out, dude. What’s bothering you?”

“I don’t like the song.”

“Yeah, Cascada’s version is not everyone’s cup of tea, but with your genius additions and mixing you created a real banger.” The singer smiled at his friend, moved a little closer and put his arm around his shoulders to ensure his support.

But Dan sighed again and kept looking in the distance. “No, the song is fine... Even Cascada made it a banger... But our version... Don’t you think, this is all too much?”

“What do you mean?”

“First you and Nico kissing on stage and now all this?” Dan glanced over his shoulder at the castle before he locked his eyes on the dark haired. “Seriously, a song about your bromance?”

The guitarist raised his hands to put quotation marks in the air for the last word. Bromance.

Kevin let out a small chuckle. “Dude, are you serious? Our fans love this stuff! They go crazy about it. And did you forget you produced the song? It didn’t seem to bother you during the whole recording. Or before or after, for that matter. I can’t really believe, you hate this song so much.”

“Believe what you want,” scoffed the blonde and shook Kevins arm off his shoulder.

This action of distancing himself and the sudden coldness in his voice startled the singer. His former smile dropped, and he couldn’t stop feeling like the whole situation is about something completely different. About something more serious. So now in a gentler voice and without a laugh in between the tall one confronted his friend: “You know, I love you, man. If there is anything wrong or you have any problems, you can talk to me about it.”

After another while of silence, Dan looked at his bandmate and even in the darkness he could see the sincerity in his face. He really seemed worried. And with another little sigh the guitarist finally opened up, letting his gaze wander the distance again:

“Ever since Nico joined the band, you only had eyes for him. Everyone did. Everyone just celebrated our new angel boy. The boy with the angelic voice and an angel’s face.”

He smiled a little about his own words, but it was a sad smile. Eventually he continued:

“I thought, everything would return to normal once every day’s life and routines kicked in. But it didn’t. Nico is still the centre of attention.”

He sheepishly looked at Kevin and locked his eyes. “The centre of your attention.”

Regardless of all seriousness a little giggle escaped Kevins throat, and he commented: “Sounds like someone is a bit jealous.”

Abruptly Dan turned his head from his friend and started to stare into the landscape again. But still Kevin was sure he saw a blush in his face, even though it was dark. And as he watched the blonde one nervously chew on the inside oh his lower lip it finally dawned on him. A thought, he never deemed possible. This time without a giggle he repeated: “You are jealous.”

Now he was the one blushing, as he felt the blood rising up in his face. Especially as Dan kept looking toward the horizon and apparently didn’t dare to say a word. He was right. He didn’t think as much about Dan as he did before. He was always sticking to Nico and now he realized he neglected his old friend over this situation. The more he wanted to make it right again. He just couldn’t stand the thought of hurting him. And finally, he saw the situation for what it was.

A little smile scurred over the brunette’s lips before he reached his hand out to touch Dan’s face and make him turn his head to look at him.

“I love you,” he assured the guitarist and continued, “and you are absolutely special to me. But I’m also sorry, if I hurt you. That was never my intention.” And with these words he leaned forward and planted a gentle kiss on the other one’s lips. After a while they parted again, Dan’s light eyes now intensely watching his.

“You mean it?” he asked the singer.

Which Kevin only answered with a sly grin before he slung his strong arms around the blonde one, pulled him closer and dived into another kiss. This time the kiss was filled with passion, as their tongues explored each others’ mouths and soon their hands were everywhere on each others’ bodies. And just in that moment the tall singer noticed how much he missed the intimacy with his friend. It felt like an eternity since they last had only eyes for each other. And he had hunger for more.

He reluctantly pulled away from Dan to breath and whispered in a husky voice: “I mean it. And when we get back to the hotel, I’ll prove to you, how much I mean it.” The sly grin made it’s return on his face. And now also the guitarist was smiling impishly.
