If Buck had learned anything throughout his life, it’s that people leave. Emotionally. Physically. One day, everyone will leave him.
So, no, Abby's leaving wasn’t a surprise.
She promised to call and text every day. She promised to keep him updated about her travels and to stay safe, but most of all, she promised to come home. She just needed a break from the big city and all the reminders of the things she had lost. Which he can’t exactly blame her for, he did nearly the same thing at the ripe age of eighteen. So he let her go.
With one kiss at the airport doors, and not even a glance back at him, she was gone, and with her, all of her promises.
