Work Text:
Poe looked at Finn like Leia had never seen him look at anyone.
She'd knew that face, of course. In the halls of her memories, faded with time and stained with sorrow, she saw it. She saw it on her mother and father's faces when they spoke of each other. She saw it in the faces of Shara and Kes, bright in their youth. She saw it on her own face in the mirror, reflected in Han's bold smile.
It was a face she'd long hoped to see on Poe one day.
Poe was no stranger to suffering. He was no stranger to risk. He wasn't lonely, but Leia feared he had no one he could truly be free with. He acted so carefree, but his responsibilities weighed on him. It was, perhaps, Leia's own fault in choosing him. In making him her protégé, preparing him for the kind of leadership he'd never quite let himself dream of.
But Finn was not his responsibility. Finn was his friend. His equal. His confidant.
Finn, perhaps, could be his something more.
Poe disagreed. He was certain Finn saw him as nothing more than a friend, and each time Leia brought it up he claimed that was enough with a wide smile. Try as she might nothing Leia could say would convince him otherwise.
She knew better, though. She saw the way Finn looked at him when Poe wasn't paying attention. She saw the way he leaned into Poe, the way he reciprocated each touch. She heard the way he spoke about him, to him, the way he laughed with him.
But Finn was equally stubborn and equally certain Poe didn't feel the same.
In their own time, she thought. They would find each other.
She just hoped it wouldn't be too late.
