It was half-past seven when Ochako pulled open her door to get a snack and nearly jumped out of her skin at the sight of Iida standing on the other side, poised to knock.
“Oh!” She gasped awkwardly. “Hello.”
“Hello.” Iida dropped his hand. “Am I interrupting you?”
“No! I was just studying.” She peered around him, but there was no one else in the hall. “Is everything alright?”
“Yes.” She waited, but he didn't say anything else.
“Right,” she said slowly. “Well, if you're sure you don't need anything…” She made to step around him.
“Would you like to go on a date with me?” Iida blurted out. His face turned bright red and he stared blankly into her room over her head.
Ochako's own cheeks heated. “I - oh.” She flustered. “Well, I - I - I mean -”
Iida took her inability to respond as an answer of its own. “I apologize,” he said stiffly, “I've made you uncomfortable. Please rest assured this will not change our friendship and I will not burden you with it further.”
Ochako grabbed his sleeve as he turned. “I thought we were past you talking like that.” She couldn't help but tease.
Iida stopped but still didn't look at her. “I apologize.” He repeated. “I… will let you get back to studying. Goodnight.”
“Oh, come on,” she refused to let him go. “At least let me give you an answer.”
Finally his eyes met hers. She smiled at him brightly and he returned it weakly, not quite as easily as he usually did, but with what she thought was growing hope.
Impulsively, she stretched up and kissed his cheek. “Yes.” She said, heart skipping a beat at his smile. She didn't think it was possible for him to get any redder. “I would love to.”
