Penny Lamb died twice in her life.
The first time at 17, surrounded by people who never knew her, never acknowledged her. On a roller coaster disaster that could have been so easily prevented if the cart's wheels had been properly checked.
The second time at 82, surrounded by family. In her final days she spoke of people nobody ever remembers seeing her around. She spoke of people who lived in different countries. Of an inanimate machine that had gone out of service decades ago. Each thing and person she spoke of, she called them friends. Uttering their names with dying strength and nothing else.
