Work Text:
A quiet night covered Narnia. In the sitting room of Cair Paravel, the four Pevensies were relaxing on the large, cozy sofa. Edmund engrossed in a book, Lucy painting with her watercolors, Susan quietly knitting, and Peter reading a few letters he'd received that day. Suddenly, the loud chime of the clock rang out, marking ten o’clock.
Peter slowly stood, lifting his arms high to stretch his stiff body. He let out a small yawn before smiling at his three siblings.
“All right, time for bed. We have to wake up early tomorrow, the guests from Galmian are coming. But before that…”
Hearing this, Lucy grinned widely. She jumped from her seat and ran toward Peter with open arms. Peter beamed and welcomed her with a big hug, lifting her off the ground and spinning her in the air before bending down to kiss her cheek. Lucy giggled with delight.
“Goodnight, Lu,” said Peter as he stroked her hair.
“Goodnight, Pete!” Lucy chirped back.
Peter then turned to Susan, gently kissing her forehead. She smiled warmly as their eyes met.
“Goodnight, Su. Sweet dreams.”
“You too, Peter,” Susan replied softly.
"And you…" Peter said teasingly, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
“No need, Peter. And don’t you dare even think about it,” Edmund replied immediately, without looking up, pretending to stay focused on his book.
Of course, Peter didn’t listen, He quickly strode over and, before Edmund could move, planted a swift kiss on his forehead.
Edmund froze, Lucy tried to stifle her laughter, her shoulders shaking, while Susan sighed with a smile.
Meanwhile, Peter burst into loud laughter at Edmund’s shocked expression and reddening cheeks.
“Pete!” Edmund protested.
“Well, now everyone’s had their goodnight kiss,” Peter said with a satisfied, unapologetic grin, then turned around to collect the letters from the table.
Seizing his chance for revenge, Edmund silently approached Peter and planted a quick kiss on Peter’s cheek while he was focused on tidying his letters.
Peter’s eyes widened. As he turned in surprise, Edmund was already walking quickly toward the door.
“Goodnight!” Edmund shouted, voice cracking slightly, as he shut the door. The room fell into silence.
Peter stood frozen, his free hand touching his cheek where Edmund kissed him.
“Did he just…” he murmured, looking toward Lucy and Susan.
Lucy covered her mouth, her eyes sparkling with glee, while Susan blinked once before smiling.
“Yes, he did. Another bold move from Edmund Pevensie.”
Two seconds later, Peter was grinning, an evil smile spreading across his face.
“Oh, he dares…” Peter growled, then dashed out of the room. The sound of fast footsteps echoed through the hallway.
“EDMUND PEVENSIE!” Peter shouted.
Soon after, there were lighter, more frantic footsteps—it must have been Edmund doing his best to avoid capture. Moments later, a high-pitched, panicked scream echoed through the castle: Edmund, begging Peter to stop chasing him and to show mercy.
But Susan and Lucy knew Edmund was doomed. Peter’s speed was twice that of Edmund’s. Sure enough, soon there were sounds of Edmund laughing and squealing as Peter caught him and began smothering him with kisses.
“Peter, wait, stop! Let me go! I swear—Ah—No!”
“How dare you do that to me, Ed!”
“You kissed me first! I told you I didn’t want it!” Edmund shouted back, though he couldn’t stop laughing. The hallway filled with noise and joy, Peter’s satisfied chuckles and Edmund’s breathless giggles echoing off the walls.
Cair Paravel was alive with laughter and shrieks that night.
At the doorway of the living room, Susan and Lucy stood watching them with smiles. Susan glanced at Lucy.
“Now it’s your turn to break them up.” She said and Lucy shook her head.
“Nope. Let them be.”
