The Only One Left

Summary:

It’s one slash to the back. Most likely with a powerful weapon. All of Takemaru’s blood had piled around him. He couldn’t be revived. He’d been dead for too long.

How long had he been here?

“Takumi, you’ve been staring at the body for quite some time…”

“Sorry. I was still trying to work out if it was a hallucination or not…” I said, breathing hard.

Work Text:

Day 94 - Morning - Last Defence Academy Schoolyard

“Takumi, there you are!” I turned my head to see Nozomi run up to me. She bent down to catch her breath before looking back up at me. “I’ve been looking all over for you! Ima, he…he’s dead!”

“So the murderer has struck again. Twice it seems.” I turned my gaze away from Nozomi towards Takemaru’s body. “It’s real…”

“Huh…?”

“Nothing…”

It’s one slash to the back. Most likely with a powerful weapon. All of Takemaru’s blood had piled around him. He couldn’t be revived. He’d been dead for too long.

How long had he been here?

Probably no longer than a few hours at least.

The blood that stained the grass was already starting to dry. Was he killed during the night?

Maybe during one of his patrols?

“Takumi, you’ve been staring at the body for quite some time…”

“Sorry. I was still trying to work out if it was a hallucination or not…” I said, breathing hard.

She didn’t say anything. We just stood in silence as we mourned our friend’s death. Heads low.

“We should move him. Make him a grave.”

“Yea…”

Nozomi turned around to head back toward the school. I eyed the corpse once more before bending down near a bush. My movements were quick. Blood splattered across my clothes and the weapon in my hands.

A power saw.

Nozomi barely caught her footing, grasping onto a tree nearby, turning her head to look back at me in shock.

“W…What? Takumi?”

I just stared at her. I felt nothing. I felt no sadness for the girl before me who was slowly bleeding out from the large gash in her back. It actually filled me with a kind of joy.

A smile crept across my face as I sneered down her at prone form.

Her eyes widened once she saw my expression change like so as if she had some kind of revelation. “You’re not Takumi. You’re a G’ie Queen.”

“How?” I asked, confusion in my voice.

How did she know what G’ie were?

The only G’ie that was dealt with was a male.

Unless…

“You’re one too…”

“Yes! I’m a G’ie Queen too! There’s no reason to kill me! We have the same objective!” She exclaimed, almost sounding like she was begging me to spare her.

Adorable.

“But if I let you live there’s one less corpse for the male G’ie to takeover,” I responded.

She seemed to realise that I wasn’t going to let her live. Her eyes blown wide and she shook her head.

“Please! Appeal to your host! He’s not the kind who’d kill!”

I just stared at her with empty eyes. The power saw still in my hands and continued to rev. “The difference between my host and yours is … Takumi actually has potential to become a killer. Nozomi doesn’t.”

“S…S…STOOOOPPP!!!!”

I slashed her back one final time, ending her senseless drivel. She let go of the tree and fell to the ground, blood flowing from her back. Eyes lifeless. I took in a deep breath about to toss my weapon into the bushes once more when I heard footsteps. I whirled around and saw her.

Hiruko.

She witnessed what I’d just done.

She had to be dealt with.

She also most likely saw that I was covered in blood and holding a bloody weapon.

She knew that I was behind this now.

I had to kill her.

“Takumi…” Her words came out like she was in shock. Horror on her face. “You did this?”

“No! Hiruko, I’m being framed! I…I just found this here and…”

“Don’t try and bluff your way out of this. I heard everything.” I stopped. She knew I wasn’t Takumi. My gaze shifted to my weapon. I knew she was smart, but I didn’t think she was also stupid. “The wounds on Shouma, Ima and now Takemaru and Nozomi differ from the other murders.” She pushed her glasses up and glared at me. “You’re a G’ie Queen that at some point possessed Takumi. The same happened with Nozomi.”

“I guess this has to do with your little time-travel ability similar to my host. You only remember certain moments though if his memory serves right.”

I might as well see where this goes.

“Correct. Nozomi was taken over much earlier since Yugamu was killed on Day 28. The two methods we had at the time was the doll which was the animal corpse controlled by a male G’ie and Nozomi. Then Takumi suddenly becoming indifferent to the murders. I thought maybe the G’ie was in him at first, but now I realise that your control over him was affecting his already unstable mind.”

“I have to hand it to you that you sounded like an actual detective. Takumi was still worrying about the whole Eva thing and I guess I didn’t help his mental state,” I explained, laughing a bit.

Hiruko glared at me and I couldn’t help but sneer back.

“Don’t look at me like that. Unlike with Nozomi he’s still here.” I tapped my head. “Nozomi was taken over too long ago and is already one with her G’ie Queen. I’m still in that process with Takumi.”

“He’s still in there?” Hiruko asked, surprise written on her face.

“He can’t see or hear what I’m doing though. He’ll only find out once he comes to again. His reactions are always the best!” I exclaimed, joy coursing through my body at the thought of my host’s terrified face.

“You sick…”

“Maybe you shouldn’t have casual conversations with someone that has a power saw on them.”

Hiruko dodged my attack, swiping her legs for my feet. I jumped out of the way and as she twirled around to ready for another attack that’s when I struck. I swung down in one swipe on her back just like I had done to the other two. She cried out, landing on her knees and looked up as I stood above her.

“I just … want to know. What day … did you take Takumi from us?” She asked me, pain in her voice.

“I would think it would be obvious.” She stared at me; eyes widening. “It was the day he had a little tumble down the mountain while looking for the Invader village. It was … Day 67, I believe,” I explained, having a good think of how long I had actually been attached to my host.

“You’ve … been in Takumi … for that long?”

“It took some time for me to gain some semblance of control especially due to Takumi’s lingering sanity. I was able to officially start affecting him on Day 75. You know the rest. I certainly didn’t expect there to be another G’ie Queen here.” I laughed, nudging Nozomi’s body.

“Why kill … one of your own?”

“Same as I told her. More corpses for the male G’ie. Takumi has so much more potential than Nozomi.” I held the power saw up above my head, ready to deal the final blow. “Now then…” I paused and winced. “Damn. He’s coming back already.”

I staggered away from Hiruko, leaving her to bleed out in the grass like the other two. This meant that Takumi would come across the three bodies outside at some point along with Gaku since he was the only other one alive a part from my host. I made my way up from the schoolyard up to the rooftop, hid the blood-soaked power saw in my room and took a shower. I walked passed the mirror by the front door of my room and looked into it, grinning at my reflection.

“How will your reaction to this be when you wake up this time, Takumi? Oh, I can’t wait.”

Notes:

I know I said I’d take a break for a few weeks, but I just finished the ‘Box of Calamity Route’ and I HAD to write this. It takes place in Ending 37 before Gaku shows up. I thought it was a missed opportunity to have Takumi and Nozomi interact especially with Takumi now under the effects of a G’ie as well. It made me wonder if G’ie Queens only know when other males are around not Queens. Unless it’s explained further in the S.F Route but until I get there this is how I pictured the scene going so it’s like another extended scene.

Also the reason the title of the fic is called ‘The Only One Left’ is because we know that by the end of Ending 37 Takumi is only one alive. However the implication is that the G’ie Queen fully took him over and in his last moments it told him he’d killed his friends. It’s heartbreaking but it’s what I find so fascinating about G’ie Takumi.

Anyways, hope you enjoyed!
