manmade heaven

Summary:

lukey watches as the burning sun rises and bleeds through the artificial orange sky, and grins to himself, pleased.

Notes:

silly drabble loosely (LOOSELY) inspired by the upcoming fog to distract me from the 5k+ work in progress that has been beating my ass for the past month (I barely reached the point that made me start it to begin with. send help)

btw I heard lukey wants to read fanfics on stream someday (I'm a fake fan and don't always watch just chatting or variety streams, I gotta step up my game) so like don't send my shit to him? I don't like turning on registered only setting even with the whole ai problem yadda yadda but have done it to all my realm fics because I'm scared one of you might, and like I do NOT consent to that. if he stumbles onto it off stream and read it or whatever it's none of my business like I'm not his mom and if he's walking around ao3 it's his problem. but I do NOT want my shit on stream, nor sent to him in any way, shape or form. thanks

Work Text:

lukey stared at the horizon after cleaning the lenses of his gas mask. it hadn't helped much, the leather of his gloves as dusty as the glass in front of his eyes, but he paid no mind. blue used to be his favourite colour, but after months of not witnessing it in the sky he may dare say he liked this violent hue of orange more. it became very familiar, very angry, a reminder of the burn that came and destroyed everything. of the fog that erupted from the fire, of the dust that remained where there once was life. he'd witnessed it hopelessly, watch from a safe distance as the world that was once balanced with cycles of peace and war all came to an end, not exactly calm and safe but with no threatening battles either. a secret third thing that one could call a balance of both, or maybe something too foreign for that scale, outside the manichean binary of good and bad.

it was just empty. well, nearly empty.

he had always been a man of harmony, being a scientist who valued truth and justice, but it didn't mean he didn't have his own twisted sense of morality either. lukey could argue that he valued his truth, his justice, but no one needed to know that. and so, he kept doing his thing on his corner, portrayed as a rightful man to the outside eye, unknowing of his true intentions. no one would have seen it coming.

no one saw it coming.

he grinned at the twisted brightness of the sun, its corners shifting like a glitch from the thick air filled with radiation and ash, emerging from what was probably a very tall building once. the smearing in the lenses didn't help it either, but he wouldn't want it any other way; much the opposite, the distortion made it much more pleasant. hopefully he can find some leftover paint somewhere and immortalise the view at some point of their exploring; he's sure his companion would love the idea. it wouldn't be the first time they had painted together, though it'd be the first time since the incident.

as if he'd been called, lukey heard steps behind him, coming closer. he didn't need to look behind to know who it was, hadn't really seen anyone other than pangi in a while. not alive, at least. "you're up early."

he hummed, letting his head fall on the taller man's shoulders the second he sat beside him. "i hadn't seen the sun rise in a bit."

"i see." pangi's voice sounded muffled, wearing a mask that resembled his own, except tidier. not that lukey was a mess, but he didn't care much about the condition of his gear if it was functional. regardless, they had backups. they had prepared for the long run after all.

it hadn't been his idea. as devious as lukey's mind went from time to time, he was calculative and careful, knew that nothing could be done on his own. then the blue eyed man came into his life, a being with so much passion for chaos, one that matched and even doubled his deep desires. it had been a match made in heaven, or maybe in purgatory. definitely not in hell, they've never done anything wrong.

this was not a punishment, much the opposite, actually.

the two man stayed silent for a while, with lukey feeling an extra weight on top of his right hand, letting pangi entangle their fingers together. it's been a while since they've danced around what they were, and they never established a word for it, but did it matter when you are the only two people alive? their partnership had became official since before they started the plan to rule the world, and the promises between the two of them would always blend with their little project of mass destruction. there hadn't been a need to properly define them when they knew what they wanted from the other, knew that they wanted each other. lukey caressed the back of pangi's hand with his thumb, wishing deep down he could take it to his lips instead. it was a shame they had yet to find a place where air was pure enough to take the mask off, even for a little bit, but it didn't bother him as much. it was a small price they had to pay to conclude their personal mission.

it wasn't like time was running out anyway. their timer had barely just started; they had until their last breath to enjoy this new world they've tailored only for themselves, and they sure as hell would enjoy every second of it. it wasn't like they didn't get to be intimate too; if anything they could do literally anything right now, no one to judge or witness their actions. it was, quite literally, their world.

so lukey kept staring at the orange sky and blinding sun, enjoying the warmth of the body beside him. this was everything he could've asked for, perhaps even more. it was perfect.
