Work Text:

Everything in Skizz hurt.

He was on week two of being sick and everything still felt like shit. Thoughts racing even as he lay in bed.

It was a living hell he made for himself.

And yet he still sat at breakfast. The lights above Impulse's nook buzzed, making his headache worse.

Sounds didn't sound like sounds, instead all a garbled mess as his partner spoke.

He tried to keep it low, Skizz knew he did, but still…

Leo was in his highchair beside Skizz, looking around at everything with blue–black eyes. He was starting to look more like Impulse, his kind eyes and silly smile showing through so easily now.

The little one looked at him and smiled, making grabby hands before Impulse sat on Leo’s other side.

“You need to eat, buddy.” His tired voice was smooth and even as he turned the one year old's head gently.

Leo's little cooes quickly turned upset, his hands smacking down onto his table as he leaned his head away from the spoon Impulse held.

“Mmmm!”

“It's okay, buddy.” Impulse purrs as he speaks. “I promise it's not poison.”

"Mmmm!" Leo objected again, turning desperately to Skizz.

"Listen to your dad, buddy." Skizz encourages gentle.

"Mmmm!" He goes again, looking up at Skizz with such tragic eyes he almost can't resist.

"C'mon, buddy. You need to be weaned."

Tears welled up in Leo's eyes as he turned back to Skizz again. His little hands were wide open as he whined loudly and cried out "Ma!"

Something in Skizz's exhausted brain short circuits as the room goes still, only the loud whining for his infant son.

"Did he just call me 'mom'?" Skizz asks weakly.

"Maybe?" Impulse says as he tilts his head. "I think he was asking for milk though."

Skizz doesn't stop himself as he takes his son out of the highchair, holding them against his shoulder as he trills.

"It's gonna be okay, buddy." He says gently. "Your mom and dad just want you to try eating this, okay?"

Leo's cry steadily quiets into sniffles before he looks back at Impulse with a harsh glare.

"Oh, looks like someone's upset with their dad." Skizz laughs.

The demon sighs, pushing the mashed berry mix towards Skizz as he reluctantly put Leo back into the high chair.

"I won't poison you, I promise." Skizz says gently as he holds up a spoon. "We just want you to eat."

"Mmmm!" Leo cries again, leaning as far away from the spoon as possible.

"Here, why don't I try it first?" Skizz asks with a small laugh.

Without a second thought, and under Leo's careful eyes, Skizz takes a bite of the miniature spoon and hums. It isn't half bad, mostly just a mix of sweetberries and grapes, but it definitely still feels weird to eat baby food.

Before he takes another scoop, Impulse is sliding him a new spoon with a half-hearted glare.

"Oh, right." Skizz laughs. "I don't think I thought this plan through."

He takes another spoonful then, hovering it near Leo as Skizz opens his mouth. "Ahhh, okay? open your mouth."

Leo finally opens his mouth then, accepting the puree of berries reluctantly.

"There we go. Tastes good, right?" Skizz coos.

The baby just keeps glaring up at him, even as Leo accepts more spoonfuls of food.

At least he's eating the food?

"Are you sure about being called mom or mama?" Impulse asks as Skizz puts their son down for a nap. "He was just asking for milk so it might make him confused."

"Nah, I think I'm fine with it." Skizz answers quietly, careful to not wake their kid up. "It honestly feels right. Like I'd been missing something before and now I've found it."

"Really?" Impulse asks again as he walks up behind Skizz, standing just next to the crib as Leo is steadily lowered in.

"Just think about it: I was the one who had him. I've nursed him as much as I can, at least until my milk ran out. Of course I'm his mama." Skizz says with a shrug.

Leo looks all too peaceful in his bed, laying on his back as his chest steadily rises and falls. He's all wrapped up in his cutest onesie, one with the old Imp & Skizz logo they made as a joke.

"Not gonna lie, I think I like the idea of being a mom more than the idea of being a dad…" Skizz hums quietly. "You know how weird my gender can be."

"So he has a mom and dad rather than two dads, huh?" Impulses asks playfully as he nudges Skizz.

"I guess so, Dop." Skizz shrugs. "I guess so."

Notes:

Intended to post this earlier in the day but I got caught up in drawing for artfight ;o;

Minor edit: Ignore that I forgot a major tag, I'm so so sorry for that jumpscare ;o;

I was half asleep when I wrote this and completely forgot about the line implying he got pregnant. I'm usually much better at tagging these things I swear.
