Work Text:
“Hey.” Lucy’s voice startles Tim, which doesn’t go unnoticed by her. He was lost in thought about Lucy, again. She is usually the one that distracts him in the best ways.
“Hey.” He finally says back. “Did you still want to come over tonight?”
The expression on Lucy’s face softens. “Absolutely. I will never pass up a night with you. I hate going home without you.”
“Then don’t.” Tim says it easily and Lucy raises her eyebrows. “I hate not being with you either. You should just finish moving in.”
Lucy smirks. “I think you have yourself a deal, Bradford. Can you handle me being with you all the time?”
“Of course I can and I want you with me. I want your mess.” She rolls her eyes and leans in for a kiss. “What did you want to do tonight?”
“We can grab dinner and just watch a movie. Maybe we can take a late night swim.” Lucy wiggles her eyebrows. “And maybe you can clean out a drawer for me.”
Tim wraps his arm around her waist. “I’ve cleaned out more than one drawer for you and some of my closet. Be safe out there today and then we can have a nice relaxing few days together.”
He taps her butt and she blushes before blowing him a kiss. Tim couldn’t wait to get through this day. He was excited to do something with Lucy for the Fourth of July which was the following day. She loves going to see fireworks and it’s something he is excited to celebrate with her. It’s another day his dad had ruined for him, but Lucy has helped him to create the best memories.
By the end of the day, they’re all exhausted. No matter what holiday it is, it always brings the crazy people out. Lucy had Penn with her all day and it was quite the experience for him. “Ma’am, all of my paperwork is done.”
Lucy smiles tiredly. “Thanks Miles. Go home and try to enjoy your day off.”
“Are all holidays this bad?” Lucy snorts and he looks at her questioningly.
“Most of them are. Halloween and Valentine’s Day are usually the worst. Just hang in there Miles.” He nods and goes to change out. By the time Lucy is finished with her own paperwork, Tim texts her that he has gone home and has ordered dinner.
Lucy drives to his, well their, house and parks in the garage. She goes inside and Tim hands her a glass of wine. “See, already the best.” She leans up and draws Tim in for a long kiss. “Are you ready for date night?”
“With you, always.” Tim smiles at her and brings her in for another kiss. “Thank you for staying in tonight.” Lucy has never been one who needs anything fancy and date nights at home are her favorite. She feels a bit of nervousness behind Tim’s words.
“I love when we can have a night alone together. Are you okay babe?” She cups his cheek and notices how tired he is.
Tim nods, maybe a bit too fast. “I’m good, especially since the greatest woman I know is finally moving in with me.” He almost gave his plan away to Lucy.
The doorbell rings signaling that their food has arrived. Lucy grabs their drinks and she heads outside. It’s a beautiful night. She hears Tim walk out. “I thought we could eat out here.”
“That sounds perfect.” He starts unpacking their food and Lucy sits down.
They eat and chat about their days. It’s very peaceful. “I don’t think you could have found a better backyard.”
Lucy lays her head on Tim’s shoulder once they’re finished eating. He wraps his arm around her waist and they watch the sun start to set. There is nothing better than this. In the distance, someone shoots fireworks off and Lucy leans back into Tim. “They’re so beautiful. I don’t know why watching them used to bring me so much joy, but it always has.” She finally murmurs.
“Maybe because they’re as bright as your smile is.” Lucy can feel herself blush and turns to kiss him.
“Flattery will get you everywhere, Tim Bradford. Taking this chance with you is the greatest thing to ever happen to me.” She whispers into another kiss.
“I love you, Lucy.” He kisses her and pulls her hand to go inside. He shows her how much he loves her the entire night. The fireworks didn’t stop.
The next day, their family is getting together at Angela’s house. She wanted to host a barbecue for what she considers to be her family. “Lucy, I can’t control myself if you wear that.” Tim groans and tries to think of anything else.
“Babe, just think about how much fun you can have tonight. We are going to have fun. I promise. Jack and Emmy miss you.” Tim nibbles her bottom lip.
“You’re cruel for using them against me.” She giggles. Tim’s eyes can’t stay off of her.
She has on jean shorts that hug her hips and legs in the best ways. He loves her thighs and legs. She has on a patriotic tank top that once again fits in all the right places. “Plus, you look hot and I can’t touch you either.” Lucy quickly moves away before Tim can start anything. They head over to Angela’s. Tim is vibrating out of his skin and Lucy notices. “Why are you so on edge?”
“I’m not Luce. Maybe I’m just a little tired from not getting much sleep last night.” That seems to reassure Lucy.
“I mean, we had to celebrate that I’m moving in.” She grins at him. He parks the truck in the driveway and helps her out. Lucy walks right into Angela’s house and greets her friend.
“Uncle Tim!” Jack screeches and runs right into his legs. Emmy is toddling behind and reaches for Tim.
Lucy’s heart warms when she sees them in his arms. “Please don’t jump his bones in my house.” Angela grabs the food out of Lucy’s hands.
Lucy goes red. “I’m not going to.” She knows that Angela doesn’t believe her. “We are finally moving in together. He’s my future and I can’t deny that I haven’t thought about what will happen next.”
Angela hugs her. “It’s about time. You were never at your apartment anyways.” They both giggle.
“You’re not wrong. He’s going to make a really great dad one of these days. He’s so good with them.” Angela squeezes her hand and goes to make sure everything is set. Wesley, Wade, and John are outside starting the grill up. “I think someone stole you from me.” Lucy bumps her hip against Tim’s.
He shrugs his shoulders. “What can I say? Kids love me.”
Lucy laughs. “It’s because you’re a big kid.” Tim’s jaw drops and Jack tugs his hand to go outside. Most everyone else has already arrived and is outside as well.
Lucy and Tim run around with Jack, Emmy, Leah, and Lila. The kids love both of them and are having a blast. The kids grab water guns and the six of them have an epic water gun fight. The other adults watch on. Nyla and Angela join in and don’t hesitate to attack their friends. Lucy grabs the hose and sprays them. “That’s cheating.” Nyla tries to glare, but she has a smile on her face.
Lucy shrugs. “Listen, we never said the hose was out.” Thankfully, they’re all saved by the food being done. They spend the day laughing, playing games, and enjoying their time with their family. Even Miles came.
Lucy goes up to him just as the sun sets. “Hey, did you have a good day?”
He nods his head. “I did. It was nice to spend time with everyone.”
Lucy lets out a breath. “Listen, I’ve talked to Celina already, but how would you like to be her new roommate?”
Miles seems surprised and raises his eyebrows. “Really?”
“Yeah, I’m moving in with Tim finally, not that I spend much time there. You need a place to stay and there’s a room available.” Lucy says easily.
“I would love to. It’s getting to be a bit much being Smitty’s roommate.” Lucy giggles. “Thank you, Lucy. I’m happy for you both.”
Tim walks over and smiles at his girlfriend. “I see Miles took your offer.” Lucy nods her head. “Good.”
Angela has a great view of the fireworks, which makes things much easier than having to go anywhere. Tim pulls Lucy towards the back of the group just as they start. “They are off to a great start this year.”
Tim hums in agreement. “Lucy.” His voice cracks and she looks at him. “I love you more than I can describe in words sometimes. You’ve brought the light back into my life. I can’t imagine spending every day with anyone else.” Tim goes down on one knee and Lucy gasps. “Will you keep being my shining light and marry me?”
“Yes, yes!” She yells it out loud and everyone’s heads turn. No one except Angela knew this was happening. He slides the ring into her finger and pulls her in for a kiss. Their friends cheer and the fireworks are going all around them.
“Finally!” Wade whistles and Angela is grinning.
“We’re so happy for you both.” Luna hugs them both. After everyone congratulates them, Tim takes her home to celebrate their engagement. This quickly became Lucy’s favorite holiday.
