Work Text:
Wally West speed into the tower wearing a bright red white and blue tee shirt and a big grin.
"Come on guys it's almost eight. We're going to miss the fireworks!"
"Why fireworks?" Asked M'gann emerging from the kitchen with a freshly baked tray of cookies.
Wally picked up a cookie and shoved it in his mouth. "Fourth of July, babe." He said swallowing with difficulty.
"What's that?" asked Superboy, coming up behind M'gann and putting his arm around her. He shot Wally an evil glare and the speedster backed off.
"You've never heard of the Fourth of July?" Wally pretended to be physically injured. "Arty help me!"
"I don't celebrate the Fourth of July," Artemis rolled her eyes. "And never call me that again."
"How can you not celebrate the fourth?"
"I was born in Venezuela, America is a sore spot for my family." She returned to sharpening her arrows.
Wally moaned as Kaldur walked in from the pool in back, a towel around his shoulders.
"What is it you're talking about?" The atlaintian asked.
"The Fourth of July, please tell me you celebrate it!" Wally begged him.
"I am unfamiliar with this custom would you explain," Kaldur asked.
Robin walked into the room as the zeta tube announced his arrival. "Wally you look like you're about to blow a gasket," he laughed. "What's wrong?"
"None of them celebrate the Fourth of July!" Wally yelled, waving his hands above his head.
"So?" Robin shrugged. "If I remember correctly, Kaldur lived underwater, Artemis was from South America, Conner hasn’t been around that long, and M'gann is from another planet." He gestured with his fingers.
"You don't look very festive either," Wally pouted, looking at Robin's normal black jacket and sunglasses. "You have to celebrate it."
"No I don't, why should I?"
"Dude you're from Gotham! They have the best fireworks in the country and you don't celebrate the Fourth of July!"
Robin shrugged and plopped his bag on the ground, jumping onto the arm of the couch with great agility. "Who said I was from Gotham either?"
"But..." Kaldur sat on the couch across form Robin. "You live there do you not?"
Superboy sat down next to his friend and M'gann sat practically on his lap. Even Artemis, who had been in the kitchen, walked over.
As it was a lazy holiday afternoon all were wearing normal civilian clothes and would have all looked normal other than M'gann's warm green skin.
"I do now," Robin didn't really see the big deal and pulled out a small handbook, probably for dates and other notes.
"You didn't always live in Gotham?" Artemis asked.
Robin let out a bark like laugh. "Who said I always lived in the United States?"
"Wait, wait, wait," Wally began. "You're telling me my best friend of a half decade is just now telling me he's lived somewhere other than the U.S.?"
"Lived, born, it doesn't matter," Robin sighed and slipped another page in the book.
"You weren't born in America!" said both Artemis and Wally at the same time.
Robin shut the little book. " I have an accent that doesn't sound remotely like anything from America. Your detective skills are terrible ."
No one knew what he had said or what language it had been said. But they all got the gist.
"So where were you born?" asked Conner.
Robin shrugged yet again. "My family was traveling around quite a bit when I was born."
"Don't you have to have a citizenship or something?" M'gann inquired.
"I have American citizenship now, a little hacking and intimidation on Batman's part gave me some a little faster than others."
"But you still, haven't answered Superboy's question. Where were you born?"
Robin sighed. "Honestly I have no idea. I was born on a train somewhere in north Europe I suppose." He shoved the little book back in his bag. "I've never really thought about it or cared." He smirked. "Civie me says I was born on the east coast somewhere."
"So..." Wally concluded. "Does anyone want to go see the fireworks with me anyway?"
M'gann stood up and clapped her hands and reluctantly Superboy followed. Kaldur smiled and stood while Artemis rolled her eyes. They all turned to Robin expectantly. But he was tapping away on his wrist computer.
"Sure," he said closing the screen. "Let's head to Gotham. I've just made sure that this year will be something to remember."
