After a year of working together, Van and Melissa have fallen into a routine. Melissa handles nearly all of the purchases, having gotten straight A’s in math and Van handles the recommendations. That being said, they’ve run into a few problems recently. That is, Melissa has been late to work for the past week. And according to Van, it’s been throwing off their balance.
“Dude,” Van says when Melissa rushes into the store, thirty minutes late for her shift.
Melissa groans, “I’m sorry, seriously it won’t happen again.”
“Kid, you said that last time.” Van looks at her sympathetically. “Is something going on?”
“Well, as you know, I just got my license,” Melissa says. She has not stopped talking about that stupid license since the day she passed her test. “So, the truck has been having some trouble recently…”
“Car troubles shouldn’t make you late more than once before you take it in and get a ride to work,” Van says.
“Car troubles as in my brothers keep trying to fucking steal it from me. It’s like a race to get to the car every morning.”
Van snorts out a laugh, “Seriously? That’s why you’ve been late?”
Melissa rolls her eyes, “What? It’s not like there’s an easy solution.”
“I can think of a few, for example, you used to bike to work.”
Melissa groans, “But that hill is so steep, my calves always hurt by the time I get here.”
“Quit whining, I can’t man the store by myself.” Van gestures to the wasteland of a store around her.
