Work Text:
In-ho was usually happy.
Even though being a cop was tough, challeging and kept him awake in night so many times, he was happy wih his life.
Because he had his little family.
Gi-hun, his husband, was caring, funny and lovely.
Jun-hee, his daughter, was light, full of laugh and happiness.
Or at least, that was until she arrived to her teenage age.
She still laughed, smiled, and talked, but she was also on her phone, left every afternoon to hang out with her friends...
In-ho didn't want to be selfish, but he wanted his little girl back.
Gi-hun always reminded him that she was young and care-free, that she was in the perfect timing, not rushing things.
But that wasn't enough. Sometimes In-ho wanted to lock her down and never let her out.
That wasn't what he was going to do, but the idea crossed his mind now and then.
Even though he was touched by the situation, he could live with it.
But from some months to now, Jun-hee was changing. But really changing.
She went out more, when she was asked who she was going with he could see her eye twitch. She also started wearing make-up, having more elaborated outfits...
Something was going on.
"In-ho, nothing is wrong" said Gi-hun, getting into bed "She's just changing, trying new things, going out with new friends... Being a normal teenager"
"I didn't go out four times a week being 16 years old" he said, his expression angry as he was trying to read the book on his lap, of course he couldn't.
"You weren't a normal teenager"
"You went out four times a week?" he asked. The other laughed.
"I went out six times a week" In-ho turned to look at him "Because I was a happy kid!"
"Who the fuck did I marry..." sighed In-ho. Gi-hun rolled his eyes.
"Don't be like that, she's just having fun. That's what is important"
Even after that talk, In-ho couldn't stop worrying.
A couple of weeks later, whole they were eating, Jun-hee dropped the bomb.
"I... Have to tell you something" she started. Gi-hun just looked at her while In-ho almost drops his spoon.
"What is it, sweety?" asked Gi-hun, as lovely as always. In-ho listened carefully.
"I... I have a boyfriend" she said.
Now the spoon was on the floor.
"What?" he asked, the question came out with more anger than he expected, but didn't flatter.
"Wow, Jun-hee, that's..." started Gi-hun, but In-ho interrupted him.
"That's fucked up" he nodded.
"In-ho!" scolded Gi-hun.
"You should be studying, caring about your future" he said, Jun-hee's anger could be seen in her face "And you didn't ask us for our permission"
"I'm almost an adult, why would I need your permission?" she asked, a frown in her brows.
Gi-hun seemed divided, didn't know what to say.
"You still live under this roof, until then, you have to ask every decision you make"
"That's bullshit" she groaned. Gi-hun turned to look at her with big surprised eyes, she never said a bad word. Before he could scold her, she got up.
"Jun-hee..." he started. She shook her head.
"I can't wait to get out of here then. Far away from both of you!" she pushed her chair, making all the table shake and ran to her room. Her phone in hand, as always.
"Come back right here, Jun-hee!" In-ho was starting to get up, but Gi-hun got his sleeve.
"Don't. You've done enough" he said, his tone serious.
"Me?! She's dating a boy behind our backs! She lied to us!" he yelled. Gi-hun looked at him, his eyes tired, but the rest of his face showed how angry he was.
"Even if that's right, you could've done better" he got up and took his dish and Jun-hee's to leave them in the sink. He would wash them in the morning.
In-ho sat there, alone. Half his food still on the dish. Even if he was angry, his love for his family was bigger.
And even when it wasn't his fault (because it wasn't) he still felt responsible for making angry the people he loved the most.
He stood in front of Jun-hee's room, his fist lifted, he wanted to knock, to talk with her, but he knew himself and his daughter. She would start yelling, and he would get angry and do the same.
In the end, they wouldn't fix anything. So, instead of that, he entered into his room. Gi-hun was already inside the bed, giving him his back.
"Honey..." he started. The other didn't answer "I'm sorry, okay? I don't... Really know what I did but-"
"You don't know?" he asked. In a fast movement, he was sat on the bed "You broke the trust Jun-hee had in us. She came to tell us something important to her and you broke the moment"
"She started dating a guy without telling us, how should I react?"
"Normal! I was upset too, but what's done it's done. All you had to do is shut your damn mouth and listen. Then, we would talk to her, but at least you could've listened. She was exited!"
In-ho didn't answer right away, instead, he got inside of the bed and looked at the ceiling, Gi-hun admiring him next to him.
"He kissed a teenage boy without telling us" he suddenly said. Gi-hun rolled his eyes.
"What did you expect? A fucking call?"
"Maybe"
"You're crazy"
"I'm protective"
"When I was her age, I already had my first hangover and plenty of kisses, you should be thankful for the daughter you have"
"Again, how the fuck did I end up marrying you?" he groaned "I had my first kiss with you" he said. Gi-hun turned to him.
"You had your first kiss being 20?" he asked. The other nodded.
Gi-hun, without helping himself, exploded in laugh, making the other turn away with his face red.
"Good night"
"Sorry, sorry" Gi-hun relaxed himself "It's just- Wow. How romantic"
"You don't know what that means"
Gi-hun rounded his body, making In-ho relax. He was his fucking weakness, always. Gi-hun had him in the palm of his hand.
"I should be the one angry here. You yelled to my daughter"
"It's mine too"
"In-ho, if you keep being like that she will start hiding things. That's not what we want. We want her to trust us and come to us when she has to, right?"
After some seconds, In-ho nodded. Gi-hun kissed the back of his head and moved in the bed.
"Come on, hug me. I'm cold"
In-ho rolled his eyes but turned in the bed, being him now the biggest spoon.
"You do what you want with me"
"You know it"
It's been three days since the incident.
Three days when all they could see of Jun-hee, was her hair. She didn't want to look at their faces.
They regreted when they agreed to put a lock in her room for privacy because now she didn't let them enter.
Gi-hun knew push her would be worse, but he really didn't know what to do with this teenage crisis. He never had one back in his days. In-ho didn't either.
"I think we should forbid her to enter into her room" said In-ho, casually as they were having breakfast. Gi-hun looked at him, his mouth full and a face full of 'What the fuck are ou saying?' "Really. Maybe I can stay in front of her door when she comes from school, catch her and make her sit with us on the couch until we fix things"
"I'm gonna pretend I never heard that, just to not divorce you, you know"
"Come on, it's a fantastic idea" In-ho rolled his eyes. Gi-hun shook his head.
"It's an invasive idea" he thought a moment "I might have something better"
"You're so annoying" In-ho rolled his eyes and drank the last of his coffee before giving Gi-hun a little kiss on the lips "Call me and tell me about it in my break, I'm gonna be late"
Gi-hun nodded and saw his husband get out of the house.
He had to admit he loved his caotic but protective husband.
"Jun-hee" he called. The girl obviously didn't answer "Come out and talk with me, please. Your father isn't here. It's going to be the two of us" he said. The girl, after some seconds, talked inside of the room.
"Are you sure?"
"Absolutely, come on. Get out"
The girl, after some seconds, opened the door. She came out with not very sure steps.
Gi-hun hugged her, probably because of the guilt his body felt. Because when they arrived to the living room, In-ho was sat there.
"I knew it" she tried to run away, but In-ho's voice stopped her.
"Jun-hee, please. Talk to us" he said, his voice broken. Even Gi-hun was surprised. He didn't know In-ho could fake so good, maybe he had to question some things.
To everyone's surprise, the girl sighed and sat down on the individual couch. Gi-hun sat next to In-ho.
The taller gave In-ho an encouraging gaze. The other pressed his lips. Gi-hun frowned at him with a face that screamed 'Do it!'
"Are we gonna talk or you're just gonna stare at each other" she asked. In-ho finally sighed and talked.
"I'm... Very sorry for what happened the other day, Jun-hee. I know I overreacted. I should have listened and..." he suddenly forgot his lines. Gi-hun made him take a fucking paper and write down what he had to tell their daughter so she will forgive him. Then, instead of working trying to stop the crimes in Korea, he spent the whole morning learning those lines. And he fucking forgot them "... And all of that"
Gi-hun had to stop himself from hitting him and rolled his eyes.
But for Jun-hee, this seemed enough, because her eyes were full of tears.
"I'm sorry too..." she started "I knew you wouldn't like this but... I wanted to tell you because I love you and..." she was crying now.
Crying.
Gi-hun got up and hugged her. In-ho sat there, like a stupid man (he was) watching the two people he loved the most hug each other.
"I'm sorry for not talking to you, but I was so mad and then, I didn't know how to stop being mad and-" Gi-hun stroke her back, letting her cry all she wanted.
"That's it, you did a good job talking to us" he put a little distance between them to look at her eyes "We were just worried. We don't want you to grow up so fast, especially In-ho. You're our little girl, but you have to be a teenage girl too, so stop worrying about us and have fun"
Oh, that was in his lines too. Thanks Gi-hun.
"But being careful" pointed In-ho in a moment, making both of them laugh.
Jun-hee got up and, for the first time in months, hugged him. In-ho felt a wave of feelings, of beautiful feelings.
It was like having his little girl in his arms for the first time.
That's how they resolved their first crisis. In-ho was fully happy again.
Gi-hun still the loving husband he was, and his daughter kissing his cheek everytime she left the house.
Everything was just perfect.
Until things turned wrong again. And all because that stupid boyfriend again.
"I want you guys to meet him" she said, casually in the car "He's especial to me and..."
In-ho almost crashes the car.
