Summary
Jasper leaves Forks immediately after the party, not realising that Edward is going to make the rest of the Cullens leave too. His guilt urges him to stop by and see Bella (who's still out being broken up with) and Charlie and apologise for almost killing her.
After he leaves and realises his family have abandoned her too, Jasper calls Charlie one night to check on Bella. A few nights later he calls again. And again. Almost without realising it, the two men get to know each other over a series of late-night phone calls. Jasper helps Charlie cope with an entirely dependant Bella and Charlie helps Jasper see that it wasn't just his fault that Bella got hurt.
With Bella slowly recovering and becoming increasingly reckless, Jasper returns to Forks to prevent any serious accidents and the two men begin to realise that what has been building between them might be something worth fighting for.
