Work Text:
The afternoon sky was clear, but not too hot. The breeze was soft — the kind that makes people sleepy if they sit too long.
Kaji, Kusumi, and Enomoto had just come out of their extra classes. They decided to chill for a while at the park near Furin — just to “rest their brains,” or so they said.
Kusumi sat on a stone bench, placing his bag beside him. Kaji stood in front of the vending machine, trying to decide what to get. Meanwhile, Enomoto was busy taking photos of the sky with his old camera.
“Orange juice… sound good?” Kaji called out from a distance.
Kusumi gave a small shrug. Then he pulled out his phone, typed something, and showed the screen to Kaji once he got closer:
As long as it’s not coffee. I’ll fall asleep.
Kaji glanced at him and pressed the button on the machine. “You’d sleep anywhere if you could.”
He bought two bottles and handed one to Kusumi when he returned to the bench.
“But if you fall asleep anyway… that’s not on me,” Kaji added.
Kusumi gave a small smile — half sleepy, half playful.
Three minutes later, he was already asleep.
⸻
Kusumi’s head tilted slightly, nearly resting on Kaji’s shoulder. Enomoto, lying on the grass nearby, noticed first.
“Hey… Kaji…” Enomoto whispered. “Did he fall asleep?”
Kaji nodded slowly. “Must be tired. That class earlier was rough.”
Enomoto sat up and walked over. “You gonna let him lie down or…”
“Shh.” Kaji put a finger to his lips. “Don’t wake him.”
Enomoto raised his hands. “Okay, okay. Chill.”
Kaji looked at Kusumi. His face was peaceful. His fingers were still lightly holding the half-finished drink. Quietly, Kaji unzipped his jacket, folded it, and placed it over Kusumi’s lap — like a makeshift blanket.
Enomoto smiled from the side.
“Dude… that’s romantic.”
“It’s not,” Kaji said quickly — but the red on his ears said otherwise.
“Bro, I have eyes. I can see the vibe. Just don’t confess in front of me… or I’ll feel like an extra in an anime scene,” Enomoto teased.
Kaji didn’t answer. He just smiled quietly, eyes still on Kusumi’s sleeping face.
⸻
A few minutes later, Kusumi slowly woke up. Eyes half open. He looked around — then down at his lap.
Kaji’s jacket was there.
He picked up his phone and typed:
I fell asleep… sorry.
Kaji read the screen and smiled.
“It’s fine. You looked peaceful.”
Kusumi typed again:
This jacket… can I borrow it a little longer?
“Keep it as long as you want,” Kaji replied casually.
Kusumi pulled the jacket a little closer. He didn’t type anything after that — just gave a small, quiet smile.
Enomoto, who had been pretending to nap the whole time, suddenly spoke up:
“If you two are gonna start holding hands, at least let me go buy popcorn first.”
