Chapter Text
So everyone knows that cursed energy is formed from negative emotions and is stored in the gut, and curses are made of concentration of cursed energy and the more cursed energy they absorb, the stronger they get. Yeah?
And specific curses, like the disaster curses, are made of the cursed energy from specific fears that a lot of people are scared of, which for some reason makes them even stronger than normal ones. I think it’s because it’s like a ‘pure’ concentration on cursed energy, instead of the mishmash of it, that’s why they are stronger.
—Other types of spirits—
Vengeful Spirits:
A type of cursed spirit made when someone dies with a lot of cursed energy or regret and they come back as a curse, that’s why when you fight a sorcerer you have to kill them with cursed energy or they will come back.
Ex. Rika and [manga spoilers that idk]
Imaginary vengeful spirit (or Imaginary spirit for short):
Okayyy, so these kind are made from the fears of legends or yokai (demons basically) that didn’t actually exist. So I think they are very cool, there could be multiple of the same curse because of that, but they could be different from each other.
There’s probably less or weaker imaginary spirits in modern day Japan because less people actually believe in them. I don’t know much about mythology myself but I’ll do some research.
Other:
Ep 21. Around the 8 min 15 secondmark, Gojo mentions, once and only once, that hanami was ‘incredibly close to a natural spirit’ and that’s why they could pass through Tengen’s barriers, now I saw that and went, WTH what???? There’s other types of spirits??? Why was that not mentioned before or explored on??
I know nothing but I’m guessing that those could made of Reverse Cursed Technique Energy/Positive Energy/ or maybe even Blessed Energy? so they’re very rare (doesn’t reallyyy make sense because RCT can only be used by skilled sorcerers) the more plausible one, that they are like Japanese spirit/Kami that are connected to nature, like a river or a mountain or that people worship. And since Hanami is a nature based cursed spirit, that would make sense.
Natural spirits could also be formed naturally, but doesn’t make much sense, since we don’t know why cursed energy even exists, so the existence of ‘natural energy’ would make too much sense for why cursed energy exists.
But it was just mentioned once so I’m not going to think too much about it.
The Heian Period:
Curses from the Heian period, if we follow the mythology and art from that time, look more animalistic and more likely to attack someone. Because they feed off more direct fears of whatever place they inhabit or are imaginary spirits, instead of being just an accumulation of cursed energy. (There would also be weaker curses but less, as there were more sorcerers to deal with them, but there’s still would be a lot a curses, but maybe not as of high numbers, because of the population.
The Heian era is considered the Golden era of Jujutsu. So we can also speculate that curses in that time period would be stronger than the ones in modern day Japan because curses are at least semi-equivalent to that of the sorcerers. (Which is also why curses got stronger after Gojo was born)
