Work Text:
A soft hum comes from a room in a cozy house, followed by a shutter of a camera and the swishing of paper.
Uki sits at his bed, holding a brand new lilac-colored instant camera that was gifted to them on their birthday just a couple days ago.
Careful with not wasting any films, he only did one test shot, it being his stargazers that posed in front of it. The squishy, jelly-like mascots float behind their shoulder to admire their portrait.
“Like it?” Uki’s voice is calm, showing them, they nod happily.
He stands up and tapes it to his wall that already has lines of polaroids. Setting down the camera, he walks to the front of his standing mirror.
He has on a simple white knitted sweater followed by black pleated pants. Turning to their desk of accessories and assortments, he picks up a couple starry and simple beaded bracelets and rings. Lastly, tying their hair back into a small, low ponytail.
Uki turns around, striking a pose to his stargazers, having them smile and float happily to their mama’s pretty outfit.
“Do you think he’ll like it?” Uki asks them, the ‘he’ in question being Ike.
Ike and Uki planned a picnic date at a field not too far from the city. Despite them being together for a while now, Uki can’t stop feeling like he’s talking to a crush that is literally his boyfriend.
Again, the stargazers nod, knowing how much Ike loves Uki already, Uki still feels nervous.
Taking a deep breath in, and out, Uki steps away to pack the necessities. He puts the camera into his bag, followed by extra films incase it’s needed. They then double-check the picnic bag—filled with ice packs keeping the fruits and sweets cool, along with sandwiches and a specifically prepared caviar toast to Ike’s liking (Uki’s observation).
Ike offered to carry drinks and the picnic blanket so it’s easier for both of them, Uki happily agreed. They walk out of their room, the stargazers floating behind and watching him slip on his shoes. He stands up and turns to them.
“Don’t burn the place down, okay?” They chuckle with a gentle smile, the stargazers nod once more, floating to their respective places.
Uki steps out and locks the door, before turning around and his eyes widening to already seeing Ike there, standing outside of his car.
Ike has on a blue dress shirt, tucked into white cargo pants. Ike, hearing the door, looks up from his phone, a smile appearing on his face. He adjusts his glasses before approaching Uki.
“Hey.” He greets sweetly.
“Hi.” Uki smiles, a small blush on their face as Ike presses a gentle kiss to his forehead.
“Let’s go?” Ike asks, Uki nods and they head to Ike’s car.
Ike opens the passenger door, offering Uki, he lets out a laugh and thanks Ike, sitting down. Ike closes the door and walks to the drivers seat, entering inside and starting the car.
The drive is calming, with the radio on low playing music and the two talk along the way. Uki’s violet eyes trail the scenery, how it changes from the city to fields of grass in just a couple of minute. It’s quieter, no honking of cars, people talking, crowded areas but now a quieter, emptier area just outside the city.
He doesn’t realize they’ve arrived until the car is parked and Ike’s hand slips into Uki as if he knew that Uki was stuck admiring the scenery.
“Let’s go, I know the perfect spot.” The novelist smiles.
In the next second after the trunk clicks closed, Uki walks beside Ike through a dirt trail. Uki holds onto his own bag and the picnic foods while Ike carries a rolled up plaid pastel-red cloth for them to sit on and a bag with drinks.
Uki looks around in awe, the sky is blue with few clouds, the sun shines but not meanly, having the temperaturewarm but controlled with gentle breezes of wind. The grass field is a healthy green with daisies and dandelions in patches, butterflies and bees going about their day, everything is perfect.
After a couple minutes they arrive on a small hill with a large oak tree. Ike sets down the blanket and drinks while Uki sets down the foods and his own bag. They sit down after.
“This is beautiful, Ike.” Uki admires the scenery in awe before feeling Ike place his hand on top of theirs.
“I knew you would like it, I explored here not too long ago to find the perfect place for us.”
Uki lets out a laugh, “Really?”
“Really.”
They start to set everything out, the foods, drinks, and lastly, the camera.
Ike picks up the camera to observe it, “This was from your birthday, right?”
“Yeah, it was a gift from Nayuta.”
Ike smiles, “It’s perfect.”
It’s peaceful, Ike delighted to see the caviar toast which Uki feeds him. Every moment, sweet, yet corny, but Uki didn’t care. Like feeding each other strawberries, stealing kisses, talking about their day, etc.
Uki eyes trail back to their lover, noticing Ike’s position, how he looks off into the fields, glasses a little crooked (but that’s Uki’s favorite part), and the wind causing his hair to sway.
So he takes out his camera quietly and looks through the lens, catching the perfect moment, click, flash, and a yelp.
“Uki!” Ike gasps with a blush while Uki laughs and takes the printed polaroid before shaking it so it can form. “The flash was so bright…”
“Sorry Ike, I just couldn’t handle your beauty..” Uki smiles cheekily.
And a not so hidden challenge started, whenever one of them found each other to beautiful in the moment, they take the camera and snap. Over and over again, a snap, flash, followed with a gasp.
Overtime a pile of polaroids fill Uki’s bag, capturing the candid moments between them, the field being filled with their laughter and love.
Eventually the sun starts to set, casting a golden hue across the land. Uki lays his head on Ike’s shoulder while they admire the ethereal moment.
“I really enjoyed this date.” Ike speaks, looking down at Uki with a smile.
Uki nods, “Me too…”
Then Uki feels their chin being lifted with a gentle finger, his face guided towards Ike.
“Is this okay?” Ike whispers, his eyes trailing to Uki’s lips.
Uki’s eyes widen, his heart thumping, before nodding.
Their lips connected, gentle, sweet, no rush, with a hint of a strawberry taste. Both relaxing into the kiss. Even though they have kissed, many times…
It will always feel like the first time.
