Leonard rested on his side as the memories of the days leading up to the long awaited wedding had arrived. How emotional that he was, how proud that he was, and so thrilled that he got to choose who he was going to spend the rest of his life with. Memories of Penny tying his tie, beaming, smiling, so happy, and hugging him. The one of many friendships that lasted in Pasadena along with Raj and Howard and numerous other people at the university. Being married by Darth Vader and having his wedding video taped forever made it a far memorable event. Sheldon dressed in white and Leonard in black all complimenting and contrasting the other in beautiful ways that astounded the mind.
Sheldon's words of promise that they were going to have kids, maybe fifteen of them, Leonard just maybe a few, to his mother who was nagging them about making her a grandmother. She was all aboard becoming a grandparent, God willing.
"Or Sheldon could just create his and Leonard's baby with their DNA like the mad scientist that he is."
"Actually, there is such a process called in vitro gametogenesis---"
Howard laughed at the comment lowering his head then shot up.
"I wasn't being serious, Sheldon." Howard shot back.
"Oh, but I am." That arrogant smirk rested on his face. "By the late 2020s, they should be roaring making science and making babies for same sex couples in the labs!"
"Penny, did you give Sheldon a drink?" Leonard asked.
Penny threw her head back as she lifted a drink alongside a director who she had been in a long term relationship with.
"That's all him!" Penny announced, cheerfully.
"On the other hand, we know a surrogate who is willing to carry our baby free of charge if we decide to have one in a couple years."
"Who?" Raj asked.
Leonard and Sheldon exchanged a smirk and a glance before facing the crowd.
"Amy." Leonard said.
A pleasant memory that flickered across his mind full of warmth and happiness. The best day of his entire life after walking right into the apartment and opting to stay there after being warned by the prior roommate who was running right past him. Falling for the most controlling and arrogant man came hard then over time there were things that he found himself loving. Little things, but he hated it when Sheldon got sick. He was insufferable when his voice was stuffed up and needed someone to care for him. And in the end, he opted to be his caretaker when he fell ill.
Sheldon wasn't the best lover but he made up for it with his little eccentrics, his schedule. Something that felt reliable and as soothing when chaos roamed into the life of Leonard. The outside world may be changing but it didn't mean that his personal life could make drastic changes. Virtually unchanged.
He felt a hand on the side of his shoulder.
"Good morning, husband."
Leonard turned to his side facing that familiar face who looked at Leonard admiring him like he was a glorious nebula, so soft. Resting there in the room that was dark but his youthful appearance stood out to the human eye. His dark brown hair highlighted by the faint rays of sunlight pouring right into the room.
"I can't believe...." Leonard said.
Words taken from him as the gravity of the situation held there between them.
"We're married." Sheldon announced.
Sheldon looked down toward his hand that had the engagement ring and the wedding band to boot, to prove their commitment, looking so happy. The man who was living on cloud nine. Couldn't be happier knowing his future was all well and good filled in patience.
Leonard stared at the face that he was going to watch grow old and become still. A face that was going to take away the life out of their shared apartment upon departing the stage leaving his heart aching. And it was worth tying himself legally to Sheldon. They were going to be together for decades in each other's company enjoying all that was to be entailed.
Leonard was choked up as he started to speak.
"Husband." Leonard spoke over a giggle.
Sheldon squeezed his hand.
"Husband." Full of joy.
Leonard smiled widely being called husband by Sheldon then grabbed a handful of the pajamas and tugged him into a kiss. He let go of Sheldon who parted from him regaining his breath and their foreheads were touched together as faint sunlight pouring in through the curtains draped over their frames. The radiant glow shining against the sun.
Leonard could imagine it in great detail from Sheldon's back.
Almost bathed in darkness while Sheldon was illuminated in light all so partially, he was sure there was a religious context to it, perhaps a unconventional angel, he didn't know, it was floating in his mind, Sheldon's mom was really good at drawing out religious imagery when telling a story so that's where it may have been coming from in his mind.
"I get to do this whenever I want." Leonard said.
Their lips and noses touched, brushing, smirking, happy.
"Thought we were never going to legally married before God." Sheldon remarked, his gaze lowered upon him. "My mother would have never accepted our union if what happened never did happen."
Leonard remembered waiting, even after committing, if Sheldon were going to get married then it would be with a wedding, with a priest, with a wedding certificate. He was the most stubborn man in the entire world who had faith and hope in minds changing.
"And we did." Leonard reminded.
The cathartic moment was had, the loud cheering, the celebration of the moment being allowed to happen, opening champagne bottles, loudly whooping, being noise makers after the big decision had been made, cheering on. A moment that felt like it could fade and reveal it was misunderstood in legalese and all the excitement had to stop. A moment that was real and the happiness wasn't going to crumble after tears of joy were shed and his face turning red over it wiping off the tears.
Sheldon was an optimistic man in little ways. Having plans for plans for plans in various circumstance that were so far off and impossible. He was crazy prepared in ways that didn't match the world that they loved the other in. A world that showed very little sign of faltering.
Sheldon withdrew a distance from Leonard as his face became dotted in concern.
"Perhaps we should give the schedule second thought if we do plan to have kids." Sheldon stated, suddenly.
"Having a schedule is beneficial to kids, Sheldon."
"Oh, yes, but when they're teenagers, they start rebelling, normal teenagers, and then, we got a pregnant sixteen year old or a eighteen year old boy who knocked up his girlfriend being mad that we're trying to save their academic future. Oh, and don't get me started."
"Get started."
"He'll be so mad at us for trying to make sure he didn't do stupid stuff. Alienate an entire relationship. Trying to care for him and love him so he doesn't land on his face when starting his life out there in the open world!"
Sheldon's fear was steaming on his honeymoon. Howard should never have brought up kids. Leonard could mend this right in the center making it get back on track.
"Sheldon," Leonard rested a hand on the shoulder of his partner, his eyes half lidded, his voice becoming nice and low. "honey," Lowering his head ever so slightly as he put on his glasses. "darling, beloved," Resting a hand on Sheldon's chest. "relax."
"It's hard to relax when schedules can make or break--these kids might hate us or go no contact after leaving the nest!"
"A schedule is not going to make a kid rebel against you." Leonard was at a loss as he inspected his partner trying to think of anything that would be caused enough to leave him a mess of angst. "Where is this coming from?"
"But they will hate me." Sheldon folded his arms looking aside. "More than you."
Leonard was dead silent hiding rage.
"Did you talk to my mom?" Leonard asked.
"No, my mom." Leonard cooled down as he proceeded to smile. "She was worried." Leonard wasn't mad at all. "Really worried." Admiring his attractive partner who was being vulnerable. "After Howard brought it up." Having a sigh as he looked down still disturbed by what had crossed his mind. "You know how rigorous that I am for schedules."
Leonard looked aside thinking how his numerous girlfriends hated the schedules. Now, being forced to live there. For years. Leonard started to see the point that Sheldon's mom had brought up for the sake of her son. She didn't want him to get hurt in exchange for having kids because she wanted them. Throwing out some caution in the most caring way possible. Perhaps, she felt bad about harping on them about having grandkids.
"And..." Sheldon turned his head aside facing his husband. "I am scared, too," lowering his head. "of---Leonard, if we do broach the subject of parenthood and seriously tackle it, I have to make a contract about childhood schedules."
Leonard stared back at him lowering the glasses facing him, questionably.
"It will help." Sheldon answered, folding his arms, turning aside, then back.
"Marginally." Leonard was inquisitive.
"A lot." Sheldon turned his attention back over toward Leonard's direction. "We both agree to the terms and agreement, and the risks, it's the only way I can go on with it."
Leonard mulled it over until his mind landed on a easy solution that helped.
Priya.
The only one who Sheldon could accept a contract regarding their potential offspring's future and development under their watch. He could see a great dad seated beside him and Sheldon didn't even know it. A really good one that was a awful person from time to time and selfish. But what was life alongside Sheldon without his flaws standing out like messy flowers that weren't organized after being hastily cut on a romantic occasion?
"What if we use a lawyer to write the parenthood contract?" Leonard asked.
Sheldon looked over toward him, frowning.
"For free." Sheldon inquired.
Leonard's eyebrows were lifted.
"You know who exactly I am talking about." Leonard said.
"She used the rules against me!"
"And?"
"She is brilliant."
Sheldon got out of bed then opened the curtain and sighed, admiring it.
"Soooooo..."
"I'm paying." Sheldon decided
"Good, good!" Leonard nodded in response.
"Lego is the perfect metaphor for marital congress." He turned toward Leonard. "Two pieces that interlock with a satisfying snap."
Leonard's attention swayed over as Sheldon clasped his hands together and turned away.
"And that's why he was making that blasted noise."
