Chapter Text
Marea stood up with a stretch. Combining a night of short rests to store up sorcery points with the intense focus necessary for back-to-back casts of fabrication took a lot out of her. Marea’s ring buzzed as her pixie companion drowsily sat up from her tinderbox bed, yawning with a cat-like stretch, wings lightly fluttering with her motion. Despite having a pact with her, it was hard to remember she was even a goddess, though a minor and sealed one.
Marea gazed at the pile of books she had successfully copied. As usual, the product was Bibles; the winner of this batch’s bids was Justice God Chitraldr’s church. Although the various human gods were part of the same pantheon, there was always some internal competition for new followers. She put in Shimmer’s watermark: a pixie’s wing and a crescent blue moon on the inside of the front cover, a subtle advertisement and barely allowable given it was her workshop’s crest. Occasionally, when a new fiction or history book won her weekly bids, she could sneak in a description of the sealed goddess, but overtly advertising your god in another's bible? A bold and disastrous move.
Shimmer’s glow brightening brought her back to the present as she felt her exhaustion melt away with a cast of greater restoration. “Thanks, Shimmer, I can always count on you.” Marea declared with a stunning smile.
“I-It’s nothing!” Shimmer replied, blushing, waving her off in a fluster. “Don’t hit me with a smile like that just after I wake up.” The adorable fairy says with a pout.
Marea chuckled. Though she had snacks while working through the night, she moved to the kitchen for a proper breakfast, pulling out the meat buns she had bought in advance. As she ate, she felt her magic drain through her left ring finger into Shimmer’s true form, sealed away in an indestructible band of divine metal, densely inscribed with runes.
The fairy flew up, perched on her shoulder, asking cheerfully, “You just got done with this week's work, any plans for the day?”
“Hmm, I was thinking about checking out the bay. You said you sensed unfamiliar divine magic, right? I figure we ought to take any chance we can.”
“Really!? Thanks so much! WOOO!” The fairy did a loop-de-loop in excitement, only stopping when you lightly caught her wings and turned her to face you. “Don’t get your hopes too high, remember last time? We got caught up in a lunatic’s summoning ritual. It derailed our entire vacation in Esinelu. I didn’t even get to flirt with any cute elves!”
“Stop flirting with every cute girl we meet! You already have me!” Shimmer turned away with a huff. This was bullshit! Shimmer had spent the half journey back snuggled in the tits of some busty elf and she was the unfaithful one? Marea rolled her eyes but didn’t comment, setting her little pixie back down on the table.
—
Water walking in the bay was always so peaceful. It was too shallow for any monsters, so only fish chased by the occasional dolphin swam underneath. Marea closed her eyes, feeling the sea breeze while slowly following Shimmer, who flitted about in the direction of the unidentified divine energy when… Thunk!
Marea fell back on her butt, clutching her head before looking up at the imposing ivory gate that had just materialized and was now opening. Three boats awaited on the other side with a sky filled with knights flying on all manner of statue-monsters.
Well, shit. This was going to be a whole thing, wasn’t it?
Notes:
I always thought to myself, our fandom has the perfect way to have crossovers, so why isn't anyone using it? Country gates connect to different worlds that can have their own gods and their own rules! It's literally the perfect way to have a crossover into anything, so I knew I had to get this idea out there, even if it was only to inspire writers better than myself.
The new world (Gaia) is a homebrew setting with a unique pantheon and some changes to how gods work, but it keeps DND mechanics and races, even if they are explained a bit differently.
Chapter Text
Rule number one of being kidnapped: "Don’t resist until you have the perfect opportunity". Or was it "Don’t let them take you to a secondary location"? Unfortunately, while she was pondering this, Marea, who was in some kind of light magic binding, was taken aboard the ship as the giant white door slammed behind her.
It was “Don’t resist” Marea decided in some vain attempt to comfort herself. The bindings squeezed Shimmer a bit too hard, so the little pixie poofed into dust, much to the alarm and surprise of the surrounding knights. Great. It was going to be a pain to resummon her, and now she had to deal with Shimmer’s endless complaints in her head. The knights and occasional nobles who were bustling about abruptly halted and parted.
A rather handsome man with sky-blue hair and light golden eyes walks up through the crowd. He scanned her like those quack doctors who insist on healing without magic before his eyes froze on her bare legs, before quickly looking away with a grimace. Rude. Sure, she didn’t shave like those merchant housewives from the republic, but her legs were one of her best features!
He muttered in some language before seeming to greet her? His eyebrows furrowed at her confusion before making another attempt, but this language sounded nothing like the previous. “Konnichiwa.” He said before frowning again. This was getting nowhere.
Though the common was the universal language, Marea always came prepared with comprehend languages, a must have spell when her job often involved translating texts. By now, Shimmer had cooled off but was still a bit miffed. “Mind using dispel magic?” Marea asks in her head. Shimmer grumbled a bit but complies, the light bands dissolve around Marea as she reached into her component pouch for the salt and soot necessary.
The knights form a shield wall surrounding her as the blue-haired man summons a shield as well. Fair enough. Though she specialized in eldritch blast, if she were really determined (and a bit suicidal) a fireball would do significant damage, especially with them crowded together for defense. Luckily for them, with some hand signs, chanting, and the prepared components, the only effect was being able to actually have a conversation.
“Good day to you all, I am Marea. Although our initial meeting was slightly unpleasant, I wish to make your acquaintance.” She had done her best to channel all her fancy energy into that sentence.
“Though our threads have been woven together in an unexpected manner, I hope the tapestry is long and prosperous. I am Ferdinand von Alexandria.” The blue haired man slowly lowered his shield before greeting her? How complicated, but she responded in turn.
“My name is Marea, as you may have expected, I am rather confused about well… everything.”
Ferdinand’s brows furrowed slightly, and he slightly nodded. A fine pink powder burst from behind as she suddenly felt very sleepy.
___
How? How had she been taken to a second secondary location? A tertiary location? She drowsily scanned the room before her eyes gravitated to the most beautiful woman Marea had ever seen, who was pouting and arguing with Ferdinand. Perfect proportions with deep blue hair and dark gold eyes. “Yeah, yeah, I know she’s your type, but they literally kidnapped you!” Shimmer’s interjection brought Marea back into the moment.
Blinking hard, she finished looking about. She was properly tied with rope this time. Two knights poised to strike behind her, two more flanking the beauty, and finally, Ferdinand.
“I asked you to go on a diplomatic mission. You kidnapped a random civilian who can use magic! And killed a fairy??” She huffed. “It took so long to agree on a destination to even test, and you commit a crime the second the door opens! And why aren’t you looking me in the eyes while I’m speaking?!?” Ferdinand looks at her meaningfully and signals towards Marea as the beauty slowly turns to face her.
Her animated face immediately collapses into the soft, yet firm smile of a monarch (The gap moe hit so hard). “My name is Rozemyne Aub Alexandria. I am the ruler of this duchy, while I do apologize about the circumstances of this meeting, we have some rather important questions for you.”
Well, shit. She was already taken.
Notes:
I had so much fun writing CH 1 I decided to do a bit more! Ferdi initially only wanted to question her a bit and use her to test a Grammaratur magic circle to understand the new language, but when she broke the binding despite not being able to sense her he immediatly went into full-blown max alert.
Also, that was Marea's takeaway from all this??

Chapter Text
If Marea had a copper for every time she’d been quizzed on geography with her life on the line, she'd have 2 copper, which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice. Ferdinand had been sketching out a map as she did her best to keep up with nonstop questions, with Shimmer giving her answers whenever she didn’t know. Rozemyne listened along, interested with a soft smile as Ferdinand relentlessly interrogated Marea. About twenty minutes in the duration of comprehend languages ran out.
Unable to reach her components and with her hands bound, Marea couldn’t even recast it. Her captors seemed to take this opportunity to converse with each other soundlessly. Ferdinand drew out a magic pattern in the air, but it had no apparent effect. After some back and forth, Ferdinand seemed to cave while Rozemyne looked triumphant.
The knights behind her slowly approached before untying her. Free at last! They returned her bag of holding and component pouch. Marea had been prepared to Dimension door and dash if things went south, but luckily, it had only remained in the realm of giving out state secrets.
Casting comprehend languages again, she made a mental list of her casting resources. 6 Sorcery points, 4 3rd level spell slots (2 pact, 2 sorcerer), 3 second, and only 2 first. Seeing she had finished casting, Ferdinand decided to finally ask about her magic.
“There are many avenues people can take to be able to cast spells, being born with it due to having a relative who is a magical creature, faith in the divine, creating a contract with eldritch beings, endless study of the arcane, and more. But the basic premise for all casters is using tiered spell slots for casting magic. It's simple in concept, but it's far from it in practice, most people won't ever cast any magic, and those who do are most likely to only ever reach level 1 or 2 spells. Only the most talented and skilled of individuals will ever be able to reach a level where they can cast spells up to level 5, and those who can cast magic at a higher level up to level 9 are heroes whose stories are told and sung about for generations.”
“And what strength does each tier represent? What tier are you, and what method of casting do you follow?” Ferdinand questions with gleaming eyes.
“Ah, I have a pact with a goddess as well as some dragon blood in my veins from my great-grandmother. I specialize in third tier, which I use to run a printing workshop, bu -”
“Printing?!? You make books??” Rozemyne rushes forth. Adorable, too bad she already had a partner. Marea had messed with women only to be chased by their murderous husbands a few too many times to not see a pattern, but that never stopped her before!
“Of course, beautiful!” Marea quickly latched onto her strong interest with a charming smile. “I can make dozens of books in a few hours, I can even stay up all night to service my most important clients like yourself~” A glare pierced her brow, but Marea paid no mind.
Rozemyne seemed to short-circuit at her reply before turning to Ferdinand and whispering a bit too loudly. “We have to have her. She’s the perfect translator for diplomacy, can make books, can teach you their magic, can make books , and -most importantly- she can even make books!”
Ferdinand sighs and responds aloud, “After what happened earlier, we were never going to release her to begin with. Of course, we will have to neutralize her if she gets any… ideas.” He says that last part with a glare. Ahh, the overprotective yandere type. While Marea would certainly like to “know” Rozemyne better, she would also not like to know how the inside of a coffin feels.
Hands raised in surrender Marea interjects, “Alright, alright, I’ll just treat you all like a big client that needs some extra support back in Castlia. Though I don’t know geas I’d be willing to agree to one.”
Ferdinand hands her a contract and pen with a handsome smile that sends shivers down her back for some reason. It seems like a relatively standard NDA, so after a quick scan Marea signs at the bottom.
After signing, Rozemyne practically skips up to her. “Do you have any books on you right now? What's your favorite genre? What types are most popular in your world?” Marea softly laughs at her enthusiasm. She was so cute and just her type! However, shimmer brought her back down. “You know that Ferdinand guy will 100% kill you if you actually do anything to her.”
“You 100% know you are just jealous. ” Marea responds in her head. “For 10 gold I can give you all the books I have on me, and just for you sweetheart , I’ll loan my translation glasses.”
One swift transaction later, and Rozemyne was reading with her new glasses and a few dozen books from the bag of holding, and Marea now had 10 gold coins, these ones larger than she was used to.
“Marea would likely feel more comfortable in the commoners' district, right Rozemyne ?” Ferdinand asked gently, “Yeah, sure.” Rozemyne responded absentmindedly from behind her pages.
___
10 minutes later, Marea was on the street with a few silver as “living expenses ” leaving Marea with just one question.
Where the hell was she going to stay?
Notes:
Huge thanks to Legitamate Fish for the inspiration in chapter 2's comment. I'll have Yurg characters learning DnD spells later, but it will be with the Wizard/Cleric systems, which Marea can't really teach.
Chapter Text
Wandering the streets, Marea finally got a good look at the city. Ivory buildings flanked wide roads flush with stalls and storefronts. The large building with a domed glass roof spoke to how prosperous this nation was, or how advanced their magic was. When asked for her opinion, Shimmer responded that the ivory contained faint divine energy.
The main thing that was bothering Marea was the sheer number of stares. It seemed a bob cut and shorts stood out quite a bit, so much so that she was pulled aside by a guard. “Sorry, miss, but you will need a dress if you want to blend in. I’ll take you over to a second-hand shop.”
The kindly blue-haired guard took her to his recommended clothes store, apparently, she needed to wear pants at least to be acceptable. Marea simply picked the pair she was most familiar with before parting ways with the man.
“If you need anything, be sure to ask, the Aub instructed us to ensure you were well taken care of. Stranded in a new place with no way back… We have an extra bed if you need it.”
“Don’t worry about it, I have plenty of travel experience. I'll find an inn just fine, I will be sure to find you if I have any questions, though!” Marea said with a smile. She had considered the offer, but the ritual to get her little pixie back took over an hour and quite a bit of floorspace.
Setting off, she quickly found an inn with a bustling restaurant with wood plates indicating their higher-paying clientele. After finding a seat, a waitress arrived. Seafoam hair and a calm, mature look with a rather… generous figure. This place certainly knew how to attract customers.
Deciding to be a bit generous, Marea handed over a gold. “Hey there, cutie, I’d like a room, your recommended dish, and the rest is for you. Make sure to enjoy it~”
The waitress stood there, stunned for a moment. Before stammering out a response, “W-we don’t really do that any- never mind. Anything else for our prized customer?”
Her reaction was a bit odd, maybe golds were worth more here? Either way, the best way to get favor and info at an inn was.. “As many rounds as this can buy! For the fine folks of this town and incredible Aub!” As Marea slammed two more golds on the table, the Waitress’s eyes bulged even more, and cheers rang out throughout the restaurant. “Praise be to the Gods, and the saintess Aub Rozemyne!”
So the beauty was a saintess? Of what books? Well, there was a god of reading and a goddess of language, so it made some sense, besides the only other saintess Marea had met was also gorgeous, so it tracked.
Taking advantage of the atmosphere, Marea finally got some important information. Unlike her own world, there was only one pantheon here; apparently, Rozemyne was the incarnation of a goddess? So, a high-level cleric then. These gods don’t seem faith-based, similar to some of her world’s oldest deities.
When she asked about how common casters were, the only response was that only nobles could use divine magic.
Teachings seemed much more restricted here, after all, one of the terms in that contract was to not teach magic to commoners, even though she repeatedly told them she couldn’t… but Shimmer could. Even though she didn’t plan on letting anyone else form a pact with her, it felt good to pull one over on Ferdinand.
The night seemed to last longer than expected. Had those golds really paid for all these rounds? Regardless, Marea had pulled an all-nighter and had a rather chaotic day, so she decided to turn in.
Picking her key up at the front desk, Marea headed to her room. She was a bit regretful that she couldn’t flirt with that barmaid anymore, but she hadn’t seen her for over an hour. Unlocking the door, the subject of her thoughts was standing just inside, nervously fidgeting in a thin negligée that left little to the imagination.
How much were those golds worth?!?!?
Notes:
Ferdinand, reading the report: "So the first thing she did was bribe a waitress for a night? Well, at least we have something on her now other than coercion."
Also, please tell me if you want! I can focus mostly on moving the story with fast pacing, with some periphery worldbuilding, or I can go more into detail on either side of the door.
Chapter 5: Bedroom Scene
Chapter Text
“Mmm..” A soft, melodious sound rings in Marea’s ears, despite the muted chatter from outside. Pressing her fingers deeper into the soft flesh, another sound escaped from the girl’s lips despite her efforts. As Marea kneaded, the girl interjected, “ I -Mmph- can’t let you keep doing this, I was supposed to be servicing you.”
Shimmer’s voice cut through Marea’s head, “Stop making a shoulder massage sound so dirty.” While Marea had wanted to get to “know” the waitress better, she preferred seduction over paying. While she respected (and had her fun at) those establishments, she found it much more satisfying to bend her targets personally.
“So, Mary was it? You mentioned not doing this anymore, so you” -Marea leaned in, whispering in her ear- “wanted something to happen, didn’t you?”
“W-what? No, I-I” Flustered, Mary attempted to give an explanation when..
“Kidding! Kidding. I know a sweet thing like you must get it often right? With a body as sexy as yours, it would only be natural for me to proposition you~.” Marea hugged her neck, leaning over her shoulder to give a flirty wink. “Unfortunately for you, I can’t play tonight, so you’ll have to settle for taking a break in here.”
Mary seemed a bit conflicted, but the customer is always right. “Oh, right, I’m from the other side of the gate, and I’ll need to borrow the floor for a magic ritual!"
“What? I heard someone came through, but that’s you? I suppose that explains some things, though…”
Mary’s observations, however, fell on deaf ears. Marea was completely focused on getting her Fairy back in the physical world. Shimmer would never let her hear the end of it if she slept with someone instead of reviving her a second time.
Find familiar was a rather ubiquitous spell, but having a pact with a god (even if a minor one) on your finger certainly changed things. Due to her nature and domain, Shimmer always manifested as a pixie, even though it wasn’t supposed to be an option.
Marea set up a brass brazier and other necessary items from her bag of holding while Mary watched on in interest. An hour of chanting, gestures, and burning incense later, the adorable little fairy finally returned.
Shimmer’s eyes locked onto Mary, who was frozen in bewilderment. “So you're the one trying to steal my Wife?”
The entire room froze.
“Fine, but we share and I get to ride around on your chest.”
Goddammit! Not again!
