Luz and her awesome girlfriend Amity were on the boiling isles, young and in love and sharing a yummy fairy-shake. It was peaceful, the conversation flowed, people passed by, they shared their drink with two straws, the weather was a perfect mix of shine and cool crisp wind and everything was perfect. Well, it almost was.
“Hey losers,” Matt yelled at them, Gus was dragging him by the hand towards their table and shot Matt a look before looking back at Luz and Amity with a smile
“Sup’ guys! How ya doin?” Gus asked brightly, hand still gripping Matt’s,
“We're good, just chilling!” Amity said casually, offering a small smile, she gestured between the two boys,
“What are you guys up to?”
“Your mom.” Matt replied before Gus could seize the opportunity, it was a stupid joke, horribly placed, and it made Luz cringe completely, Amity on the other hand dead-panned
“Gus why is HE here, of all the witches to hangout with you went with THIS guy?”
Gus’ face turned a little red as if embarrassed and Matt scoffed dramatically,
“Is that any way to treat family Blight?” he said with a condescending smirk,
“When it comes to you? Absolutely.”
Before the two could continue their back and forth both Luz and Gus looked at each other and then back at their friends
“FAMILY??” they yelled in unison,
Matt and Amity paused for a moment to look at their idiots, then back at each other
“You haven't told her?” Matt asked
“You haven't told ME???!” Gus protested, eyes wide as he let go of Matts hand, utterly aghast
“I guess it just never came up,” Amity shrugged
“How…what…how,” was all Luz could manage
Matt rolled his eyes at all the commotion,
“Were witchins.” he blandly stated
“Gus, human terms please.” Luz deadpanned
“Cousins.”
“Right thank you,” she took a deep breath,
“HOW THE TITAN DID I NOT KNOW THIS”
Gus grabbed a chair and dragged it next to Luz’ and took a seat as if he might faint, Matt and Amity exchanged a weird glance and quickly looked away from each other, tensing a bit,
“Well we don't talk about it I guess,” Matt started
“We were really close when we were little until well-” Amity tried for words but ended up looking to Matt for help, he groaned a bit
“You mean until my asshole of a father took me and moved us as far as he could financially take us?”
“You've always had such a way with words” Amity said sarcastically with a cat like grin
“Shut up.”
Gus and Luz were silently watching for so long that the pair of witchins looked to them in anticipation, Amity was confused at the weird expression on her girlfriends face, Gus spoke up first,
“So…you two haven't really hung out since you were young?”
“Guess not” Matt answered,
“Never found the time to catch up when he came back and I suppose it just never happened,” Amity added
“Well you should!!” Luz spoke up finally, a new found determination in her voice, both her and Gus exchanged a knowing glance and mischievous smile
“No.” Matt pointed an accusing finger at Gus
“No, what?” Gus asked innocently,
“Whatever you two are up to, whatever you're thinking about, no.”
“But-” Luz started
“He's right,” Amity spoke up
“No ruses, no shenanigans, no schemes, no mischief, no nothing.”
Luz hung her head down in surrender,
“Fine” she huffed, but she and Gus exchanged another mischievous look and both Matt and Amity knew it was only a matter of time.

About a week later, Amity walked into the small cute food spot Luz had told her to meet her at, she looked around for her and stopped short when she saw Matt sitting alone at a booth, sipping on a drink and tapping on his scroll with the other hand. She sighed, immediately her scroll buzzed with a text from her lover,

Luz: Sorry batata, something came up and I can't make it! Why don't you stick around anyway, see if you like what you find!! :)
~
A set up. She glanced at Matt a second and realized Gus must've done the same thing Luz did. She considered this for a moment, and hesitantly made her way over to his booth.

Gus wasn't coming. Matt huffed in disappointment at the confirmation message. Just as he slammed his head down on the table he heard a voice above him,
“Date ditched you?”
Matt looked up to see Amity settle down across from him, a crooked smile on her face
“Not a date.” Matt said quickly,
“-but yeah.”
“Figured,” She said with a pop of her lips,
“Luz ditched me too,”
This caught Matt’s attention, he looked to her knowingly and laughed a little to himself,
“They set us up?”
“Just when I thought they'd let it go,” she laughed a little too
Matt glanced outside the window and sipped more on his drink,
“They're in that bush aren't they?” He sighed,
Amity looked out the window now too and saw a pair of binoculars quickly disappear into the bush, along with some rather horribly obvious closer movement of said bush.
“Yep.” she said, popping her lips again at the p sound
“Titan she's such a weirdo”
“Titan he's such a weirdo”
They both paused to look at each other having said the same thing at the same time, they relaxed slightly and Amity smiled a little,
“Well we both know they have our best interests at heart,” she offered
Matt rolled his eyes half-heartedly and looked out the window with a ghost of a smile on his face and a faraway look in his eyes, he rested his chin on the heel of his hand
“Yeah, at least there's that,”
“What's the deal with you two anyway?” Amity asked
Matt almost choked on his drink,
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?!”
“You like him, yeah?” Amity shrugged with a knowing smile, she narrowed her gaze and raised an eyebrow
Matt sputtered for a response but instead slammed his head on the table a second time, Amity casually picked up his drink and took a sip,
“Thats embarrassing for you,” she teased
Matt sat back up immediately, and forced laughter much louder than necessary
“You're one to talk! Remember that crush you had on Viv-”
“AHHHH DONT SAY ANOTHER WORD!!” Amity hissed and Matt snatched back his drink with a satisfied winning smile
“You made me gather intel about her and report back to you like some secret spy or henchman or something” he continued anyway,
Amity glared at him but took the bait,
“Yeah we got into a lot of mischief huh, remember when Odalia banned you from coming over for like a full two months!” she said with a laugh
Matt smirked,
“For no good reason! That family photo was miserable, my rendition of it was my best work back then!!”
“By rendition you mean drawing over it with marker and making my mother look like a clown?”
“Like I said, little me’s best work,” he stated matter-a-factly with a proud smile that showed off his fang,
“Hey…” he started,
“Whaddyu say we do something mischievous right now? Get back at those nerds outside,” he gestured towards the window,
Amity mocked a serious expression and raised an eyebrow,
“What did you have in mind?”

This was the perfect plan. A human style stake-out with his human friend watching two of his best friends reconnect! Genius!! He used his binoculars to look inside the building, he spotted two familiar figures, and turned to Luz
“They're too far away, I can't tell if things are going good or not, let's move closer!”
Luz nodded with an enthusiastic smile and they both moved the bush a bit closer to the window.
Many minutes passed of them watching the two witches and occasionally making comments, just as Gus was about to ask if she wanted another look, just as he was about to say it looks like it's going well, he heard a small snore, she was dozing off! Gus booped her nose and she lazily opened her eyes,
“Whaa- wha happen?”
“How are you tired right now?”
“I forgot how long stakeouts take,” she said, running a hand over her face in an attempt to wake up fully
“It's been like 20 minutes,” Gus stated plainly
“More like 20 hours,” Luz replied with a weak push on his shoulder,
Gus rolled his eyes affectionately and turned his attention back to Amity and Matt. Matt had that stupid prideful smirk on his face and that glint in his eyes that usually meant he was up to no good or about to yap you into a coma, not that Gus minded, he often tried to get Matt to talk a lot actually, he enjoyed the sight. He was so passionate about his interests and his craft, it was lovely, Gus subconsciously smiled slightly and sighed,
“How could you possibly be tired right now?” he asked and Luz piped up,
“Well excuse me lover boy,” she said groggily
“Huh” Gus gaped, dropping his binoculars
“Have you even been looking at Amity or just Matt the entire time? No wonder you're not tired, seems like you could watch him and be just fine for hours,” she grumbled, still hazy with sleep
Gus blushed hard and bit the inside of his cheek,
“I'm gonna ignore you now.” he lied,
“Ignore me all you want, Agustusfus! But you cannot ignore the calling of love” she teased, elbowing him and earning an expression of embarrassment and annoyance,
“I do not LOVE Matt Tholomule.” he insisted,
“He's my best friend,” he said with a forced laugh
“You know who else started out with her girlfriend as just friends?” she asked, when he glared at her instead of answering she pointed a thumb at herself,
“This gal!”
“It's not like that.”
“But you totally want it to be like that!” she retaliated
“Do not!” He yelped
“Do too!”
“DO. NOT!”
“DO. TOO!!”
Gus made a “hmph” sound and made a show of aggressively picking up the binoculars and looking back into the window, only to find…nothing?
“They're gone?” he thought aloud,
“What?” Luz gasped, taking the binoculars and looking herself,
“Where did they-”
“Boo.” a voice from behind them came, Gus and Luz instantly yelped, held each other tight and looked to see the culprits were Amity and Matt. The fake bush disguise now floated mid-air having been spelled, and the two witchins broke out into a fit of laughter, much to the others dismay as they broke from their embrace
Amity offered a hand to Luz that she took with a shaky smile as her girlfriend hoisted her up off the ground,
“How long did you guys know?” she asked sheepishly
“The entire time.” Matt smirked
Gus face palmed and Matt giggled but held out his hand which Gus hesitantly took, causing both Luz and Amity to exchange a look
“You know, you guys remind me of me and Amity when we were your age and we-”
“Please stop talking.” Gus mumbled,
