4 years before Jaime died, Marta and Jaime have a baby girl, Ana. He goes back to sea leaving Marta to raise Ana with help from the shop girls—including Fina Valero who grew up in their household as the chauffeur’s daughter. Marta and Fina become close while caring for Ana and their feelings deepen into love. Marta’s father discovers the relationship and is furious. After Jaime dies. Damian, realizing Fina’s love for Marta and Ana, buys them a house in the mountains. Isidro is asked to live in the groundskeeper’s cottage, allowing Fina to move to the house. Marta and Fina continue to co-parent Ana. Rumours spread about Marta and Fina’s relationship. Pelayo Olivares offers to marry Marta to conceal the truth. Pelayo becomes guarded, dismissing Fina and Marta’s relationship. Fina moves out of the main house into the groundskeeper’s cottage with her father to maintain appearances. Ana often sleeps there too. Fina and Ana are inseparable. Pelayo doesn’t connect with Ana, making their “family” disjointed. Pelayo proposes to Marta that he father a child. The girls agree.
