Look at the Stars, Look how they Shine for You

Summary:

It's date night, and Stolas' turn to pick.

Originally written for Stolitz Kiss Week 2024, Day 1, On A Date

Notes:

So I've been going through my different Google Docs files and finding ficlets that were done for various event weeks that for one reason or another reason weren't completed. This was probably the first event week that I dabbled in, and I think I only got two days done.
For some insane reason I decided to go ahead and finish and/or post whatever I started for those weeks.
This one probably isn't the best, it was written pretty early into my foray into posting fanfiction and was probably written sometime in early September of 2024, around the same time I posted Dirty Birds and For A Few Pies More.

Also, the title is from Coldplay's Yellow

Work Text:

Blitz didn’t know what Stolas had in mind as he pulled up to the palace. It was the owl’s turn to pick for date night and all that he would say was that it was something different. Hoping that this was a good thing, Blitz decided to go along with it.

For now.

Just him, and Stolas.

And the flintlock in his coat.

And the 9mm in the shoulder holster.

It was quiet as he entered through the front door, Impington entering the main hall just as he closed the door. The butler told Blitz that Stolas was in his study finishing something, nodding as Blitz thanked him. The heels of his boots made quiet clicking sounds as he walked through the halls, as he approached the study he could hear the light echoes of Stolas talking to himself as he looked for a certain book.

Walking into the study Blitz smiled at the sight of his bird bent over the edge of his desk, the simple pair of slacks and sweater looked good on the owl, an indication for the imp that whatever Stolas had planned is simple and lowkey.

Looking up from his book Stolas notices Blitz, “Hello darling! I was just finishing up, and then it will be just you and me for the evening.” Stolas smiles.

Jumping up onto the desk, Blitz sat down on the edge as Stolas wrote something down and then closed the book. “Any hints on what we’re doing?”

“Nope!” The owl gleefully popped the ‘p’ and sent the book back to its place with a wave of his hand while leaning down for a quick peck of a kiss. “We need to get one thing and then we can go.”

Hopping down from the desk Blitz hurried to catch up with his long legged boyfriend, the two of them walking together through the halls until they reached the kitchen.

Opening a basket that was sitting on the table Stolas smiled, “Are you ready to go dearest?”

“Ready when you are Birdie.”

With a wave of his hand Stolas opened a portal, ushering Blitz through as he grabbed the basket and followed, the portal closing behind them.

Blitz was lost for words, Stolas portal had led them to a large open clearing circled by trees and on the ground in front of him was a blanket laid out on the grass and a pile of extra blankets and pillows.

“Surprise?” Stolas said quietly. “I thought something quiet and peaceful would be a nice change for how hectic everything has been, and that maybe we could enjoy a picnic, under the stars.”

Blitz was in awe, it was beautiful here, “Stols,” he breathed, “It’s perfect.”

“Really?”

“Yeah.”

Stolas released the breath that he’d been holding as he moved to the blankets, setting the basket down and sitting down, a relieved smile on his beak.

“I had the kitchen staff pack us a meal, I hope this is alright.” Opening the basket he began to lay out the containers that held their dinner, Stolas conjuring some lights that floated in the air so they could see.

Walking to where Stolas sat, Blitz placed a hand on his cheek, his thumb caressing the soft white feathers of the owl's face as he leaned in and kissed him, the kiss deepening and lasting until they had to separate for air.

“It’s perfect, I love this. After we eat, will you show me the stars?”

“Of course darling.”
