Work Text:
Bee had just gotten the worst news of his life. His best friend had just gotten into a horrible accident from racing. Arcee was the one to comm him after it happened, he’s being tended to on the scene right now by Wheeljack and Shockwave with others there to make sure he’s ok.
He’s currently racing down the road to get there, even using his energon boosters. He was probably breaking numerous speeding and traffic laws, but he didn’t care. He barely did in the first place and he certainly won't now.
Pulling up into the track, he transformed and ran inside the entrance, laying optics on his friend. He ran up close to him, to take in the sight.
Breakdown was dented and scratched up really badly, his left arm being limp and twisted, and his right leg barely still attached to his knee joint, and his left leg looking just as bad as his arm.
It was a horrible sight.
He noticed that Starscream and Arcee were behind him to keep him steady, Arcee was holding him gently and Starscream was holding him firmly.
Megatron was kneeling by his side, holding his leg still with his hand so that Wheeljack and Shockwave could do their thing.
“Get your filthy traitor hands off me.”
Breakdown grumbled out, trying not to scream while trying to slap Megatron's hand away with his right hand.
“I am trying to help you.”
Megatron said calmly.
“Get them off me!”
He yelled out.
The pain and high emotions were making Breakdown squirm and jerk while his leg was being tended to, which made him grumble loudly as he tried not to scream.
Suddenly Starscream aimed his charged and ready null ray at Megatron, which made him lift his hand away, slowly lifting them both slightly in the air.
“He said get off.”
Ok, Bee had to diffuse this situation quickly. He pushed past Megatron, which he'll apologize for later, to get to Breakdown's side.
With both of his hands he grabbed Breakdown's good hand with his own and held his thigh down to keep his leg still with the other.
“I'm here now. I'm sorry it took so long..”
Bee leaned in close to him, trying to offer him any comfort that he could.
Breakdown calmed down now that Megatron wasn't up close anymore, which made him easier to slip in and out of consciousness.
Every time his head leaned to the side the pain from Wheeljack and Shockwave working on his leg woke him right back up. He could also feel the grip on his hand alternating between Breakdown gripping tighter and his grip loosening.
As Breakdown tried not to scream, Bee couldn't even imagine what must be going on through his processor at the moment. He's in so much pain it hurts Bee to even think about it.
Bee looked over to the right, down to the broken leg with the puddle of energon under it. Wheeljack was currently holding both his knee and leg together as Shockwave worked on attaching them back together to the joint, trying to reattach every fuel line and wire back together.
He looked back at his friend and held his right hand tighter. He knew this arm wasn't broken or twisted, but just dented and scratched up.
“Bee…”
He looked down to his friend, who was looking over with his eyes squinted, tears swelling in them.
Bee has never seen him like this before, and it hurt his spark deeply.
“He was asking for you.”
Arcee said calmly from behind the injured racer. She was still holding him up on Breakdown's left and keeping him still along with Starscream on his right.
“It was sickeningly sweet.”
The seeker said bitterly.
Arcee's eyes lit up like she just got an idea. Tapping Breakdown with her hand in a place that doesn't hurt, she got his attention.
“You guys should invite me to a race sometime, I know I can't match your speed but I think it would be really fun to try.”
“Heh…sure thing Pinkie.”
Breakdown groaned out before grumbling loudly in pain.
It was then that Bee recognized Arcee’s plan. Distract Breakdown from the pain and keep his attention off of it.
“Yeah, that's a great idea. We should totally do that.”
Bee took a swift glance over to the broken leg while Breakdown wasn't looking, quickly looking back at him.
It still looked pretty bad, but it was better. The two scientists were working on splinting it, basically putting it in a cast so that the con wouldn't be able to bend it for a while.
“Just don't cause anymore damage to Decepticon Headquarters.”
Starscream said from behind Breakdown, clearly still annoyed from their past shenanigans.
“No promises.”
Bee said back.
Bee looked over to his left to see Megatron who was still here but kept his distance, looking ashamed.
The former warlord tried to hide it, tried to conceal his expression. But Bee could see it, he could see it in Megatron's eyes.
Bee knew all about how he treated Breakdown during the war, what their relation was. He knew about it all, but that was a story for another time.
He also treated Starscream like scrap as well, which was probably why he was so quick to threaten Megatron away.
Starscream was protecting Breakdown. It made Bee dislike the seeker a little less.
“Ok, we've done all we can for now. It's up to his nanites to finish the job.”
Wheeljack stated after finishing up the splint, catching Bee’s attention again.
Bee looked over to the other limbs that were still damaged. Breakdown's left leg was still twisted, but twitching and moving on occasion, probably in a lot of pain. It couldn't be bent either. His left arm was twisted as well, but it was limp and still. It was probably numb to the point where Breakdown can't even feel his own hand.
Wheeljack got Breakdown's attention.
“I'm going to twist your leg to connect it back to the joints, alright?”
Bee could see the horror and fear on Breakdown's face and Bee gripped his hand in comfort.
Wheeljack grabbed his leg with both hands on each end of the knee joint, counting down to prepare him.
“3, 2, 1.”
Wheeljack snapped Breakdown's leg back the way it was supposed to be, making him grumble loudly trying to stifle a scream.
Bee’s hand felt like it was being crushed from how hard the con was squeezing it, but he didn't mind.
After welding the cracks in the cons armor, Wheeljack stood up from his spot and then went around to sit between Arcee and Shockwave near Breakdown's left arm.
“Yikes. This one is pinching your circuit nerves and blocking your sensors. Can you feel it at all?”
Wheeljack asked Breakdown with concern.
“Not even a bit.”
Breakdown answered.
Wheeljack gently picked up Breakdown's arm, which barely even got a reaction out of him. He leaned in to get a closer inspection of the damage.
“One of your sensors is busted, but your nanites can fix that with some time. This should be relatively painless.”
Wheeljack said before quickly snapping Breakdown's arm back into place, earning only a wince out of the con. Seems he could feel it, if only a little bit.
“Circuit nerves are unpinched so you should gain some feeling back, might be tingly though.”
Wheeljack said before welding some cracks in Breakdown's arm.
As Wheeljack was welding, Bee spared a glance over to the benches by the track where the humans sat. Most of them, probably 90%, have already gone by now. It was clear who the winner was already. But some humans had stayed. And when Bee zoomed in with his optics, looking closer, he could see genuine faces of worry or concern.
Some humans really did care about them.
Bee couldn't help but give a soft smile to them, which earned him some relieved smiles in return, especially from the kids that were really worried about their definitely new favorite racer.
He couldn't blame them, Breakdown was his favorite racer as well.
“You will need to be picked up and moved. It is logical if you return to Decepticon Headquarters in the Medbay unit.”
Shockwave said monotone.
“And how long do I have to stay there for?”
Breakdown asked, the sound of his voice catching Bee’s attention.
“Well.”
Wheeljack started, with a hint of nervousness.
“Depending on how fast your nanites do their job, 4 to 7 months.”
“What?! Frag no!”
Breakdown said with both anger and an equal amount of nervousness. The thought of not being able to race for that long must terrify him.
“You can't race with a broken leg.”
Starscream said, clearly annoyed.
“I can try.”
Breakdown said back, annoyed as well.
“You’ll only worsen your condition and break it all over again, and then you really won't be able to race, and then for even longer possibly.”
Bee tried to reason with him.
Breakdown tried to move his right leg to prove a point, but he could only move it barely an inch before he groaned in pain.
“See?”
Starscream crossed his arms.
Shockwave raised his hand up to his audio receptor.
“Soundwave, activate the ground bridge and lock into our coordinates.”
In just mere seconds, a ground bridge opened up in front of them. It was experimental tech since they didn't have the best materials to build it, but it's been tested many times and has worked every time recently, so everyone trusts it by now.
With everyone else moving away, Starscream stays and picks up Breakdown in his arms, the cast keeping his broken leg from bending. It still moved, so he did groan quietly in pain.
Bee watched the two decepticons go through the bridge and followed, almost going with them, but then he stopped.
It led right into Decepticon base, he's never been in there yet. He knew he was allowed to, but would he be welcome?
Suddenly, Shockwave grabbed his arm with his one hand and started walking, dragging Bee along with him. They both walked through the bridge, and then Bee was in decepticon Medbay.
Why Shockwave did that? Bee had no idea. And he wasn't certain if he wanted to know either.
Bee looked over to see his friend on one of the medical tables consuming an energon cube that was given to him to make up for the energon he lost from his leg.
Bee softly smiled at his friend and then walked over to him.
“Feel any better yet?”
“I'm pretending this is a cube of Engex and I'm hoping that if I pretend hard enough I'll actually get drunk.”
Breakdown said calmly while taking another sip from his cube.
Bee chuckled at that, noticing that Breakdown is now staring at him.
“What?”
“I love when your wings do that.”
The con smiled.
Bee’s face felt a bit warm.
“Do what?”
“Flutter. They do that whenever you laugh.”
Breakdown chuckled.
With his right servo, the good one, the con reached up and gently touched Bee’s left door wing.
It was a very unusual feeling, his wing fluttering while Breakdown held it.
Bee smiled.
“I'll bring the terrans here once in a while to make your recovery fun. We can play games.”
“Racing games?”
“Uh…no.”
“Booo.”
Bee shook his head and rolled his eyes, but couldn't stop himself from smiling.
“Just kiss already! There would be less romantic tension than whatever this is.”
Swindle’s voice started them both, flustering Bee.
Bee looked over to see Swindle on the other side of Medbay with a busted shoulder, with Hardtop by his side.
“I- What- There's not-”
Bee stuttered and struggled to get out words, but that was before Breakdown grabbed the top of his chassis and pulled him down with his good arm, kissing him.
Bee grabbed each side of the medical table to stabilize himself so that he didn’t fall onto his injured friend.
Breakdown eventually let Bee go and Bee pulled away from him in surprise.
“What was that?”
Bee asked in surprise, almost shock.
“Hey, he said we should kiss, so I made that happen.”
Breakdown said smugly, with a smile.
Bee nervously chuckled and then smiled, composing himself. He’ll be thinking about that later.
“Remember not to move your leg until Shockwave tells you it’s ok to.”
“Yeah yeah.”
Breakdown rolled his eyes, looking away.
“I mean it. If I find out you moved it or even tried getting up I won’t race with you for a while even after it heals.”
Bee crossed his arms, looking at the con with the most serious expression he could muster.
Breakdown whipped his head over to look at Bee in shock, even disappointed before looking away again.
“Fine.”
Bee was a liar. That was a straight up lie and he knew it. But Bee had to threaten him somehow. It was for Breakdown’s own good, to get him to stay put.
Bee leaned down to give the con a kiss on the cheek before turning around to leave, walking out of Medbay.
Time to find his way through the Decepticon base, but before that, he looked around and spotted Shockwave at the control center.
Part of Bee wanted to just walk away and leave, but the other part couldn't shake the curiosity.
Walking up to the purple con, Bee got Shockwave's attention.
“Shockwave?”
“What is it?”
He answered in his normal monotone voice.
“About earlier, why did you bring me along like that?”
Bee asked him.
“It was logical to bring you because you're the only one that can reason with that stubborn stunticon.”
Shockwave answered, not looking away from whatever he was doing.
“Was it because I hesitated?”
Bee asked the question straight away, not wanting to beat around the bush, a human phrase he learned.
Shockwave's typing had abruptly stopped, nothing coming out of the con for almost a whole minute.
“The war is over and I must learn to accept that. We may be the only Cybertronians left and we need to unite if we want to survive as a species.”
Bee smiled softly.
“So what you're saying is that you want to be friends.”
Shockwave quickly defended himself.
“I did not say that.”
“That's totally what you meant though right?”
“You heard no such words.”
Bee laughed at that, turning around.
“See ya later, new friend!”
Bee could hear Shockwave groan as he walked away, making him chuckle.
Time to go back home for today.
Everyday has been mostly the same after that, every day he'd go visit Breakdown in Medbay while his leg healed and made sure he hasn't been moving it, even occasionally bringing the terrans with board games so he wasn't completely bored. The kids even brought markers to write on his leg with.
3 and a half months later and now Breakdown is finally allowed to get up and start using his leg again, not needing his cast anymore. He can't walk on his own quite yet and Bee often offers to be his crutch
Starscream and Shockwave were also observing his recovery as well.
“Remember, this doesn't mean you can race quite yet.”
Starscream said, crossing his arms.
Breakdown rolled his eyes, not even looking at the other con.
“Whatever.”
Starscream was annoyed by the attitude, but not enough to say anything. He also knew that the con that races every day would go stir crazy from not racing for almost 4 months already and would continue for even longer until his leg is fully healed.
“It will be good to walk everyday, but not for more than a total of 1 hour each day. Any longer will strain it. Starting small is the best option, and as time goes on so can the amount of hours a day.”
Shockwave said while watching.
Bee turned to his friend.
“Do you want to walk through the woods? It'll be nice to get some fresh air in your vents.”
“Yeah, sure.”
Breakdown answered, sounding almost defeated. It hurt Bee. Breakdown leaned a little bit more of his weight on him, good thing Bee could carry him with ease.
Bee softly smiled before starting to walk slowly towards the exit of the Medbay, Breakdown's arm around his shoulders.
Bee looked down to watch where they're both going, watching Breakdown slowly put one foot in front of the other and favoring his left leg.
The walk through the forest was quiet and calming.
They both walked slowly through the trail as Bee helped his friend.
“I need a break.”
At that, Bee helped him sit down and slowly lowered him to the ground by the river.
There's silence for a minute, and then Breakdown turned to Bee
“I bet I can race and I won't even hurt my leg, all I'll need to use is my wheels.”
“Breakdown, no.”
Bee said back sternly.
“Aww, come on.”
He basically whined.
“You do remember how you broke your leg in the first place right?”
“Racing..? But getting hurt is always a risk. You know that.”
He tried convincing Bee, almost pleading Bee to let him race.
“But when you're already hurt, it's basically guaranteed to get more hurt and make everything worse. You know what Shockwave said, 4 to 7 months.”
Bee crossed his arms.
Breakdown sighed and looked away, giving up on the conversation.
Almost a minute goes by before Bee breaks the silence, nervously.
“Do you remember when we kissed?”
Breakdown looks back at him.
“You mean when I kissed you and then almost immediately after, you kissed me on the cheek? Yeah, yeah I remember that.”
He looked at Bee smugly.
Bee’s cheeks felt warm from embarrassment and he got defensive.
“It wasn’t immediately! I wasn’t-”
Bee was instantly shut up when he was grabbed by the con and then another pair of lips crashed onto his own, he grabbed the sides of Bee’s head and held him gently.
Bee’s eyes were wide in shock the entire time, even as they both pulled away from the kiss.
“That kiss wasn't just to annoy Swindle, I really wanted to kiss you Bee.”
Breakdown calmly told him while still gently holding one side of Bee’s pink face.
Bee was quiet, he didn't know what to say. So instead, the con just kissed him again. Bee wasn't shocked this time, so he closed his eyes and enjoyed it.
He enjoyed this kiss.
When they both pulled away, Bee smiled, and so did Breakdown.
“I can't wait til your leg heals. I promise that when that happens, I'll race with you as much as you want. Whenever, and as long as it's not too far.”
Bee promised, smiling.
“You got yourself a deal.”
Breakdown shook Bee’s hand with glee.
Bee smiled further and hugged him, feeling a pair of arms wrapping around himself.
“I’m ready to continue our walk, and let’s go back to the base, I want to kiss some more in front of Swindle.”
The con said with a smug grin.
Bee laughed, and then he suddenly felt something grab his wing. It startled him, door wings raising quickly in alarm. But it was a gentle touch, so it didn’t hurt.
“I still love your wings.”
Breakdown told him.
“Apparently they love you too”
Bee chuckled.
He positioned himself to where he was on one knee, ready to pick Breakdown up. He grabbed under the cons arms and picked him up as he stood up, bringing them both to their feet.
They started walking back to Decepticon base with Breakdown’s arm around Bee’s shoulders, slowly but steadily.
Walking back inside the base, they were greeted with a few giggling Terrans.
“What are you guys laughing at?”
Bee asked them.
“Wellllll, did you guys enjoy your kiss?”
Hashtag asked them.
“What?!”
Bee shouted in shock.
“You followed us?”
Breakdown asked them.
“Technicallyyyyy, it was just me because I'm the most stealthy.”
Twitch said while containing her giggling.
“But we know alllll the details.”
Thrash said while struggling to contain his own giggling.
“Your kids are really something else Bee.”
Breakdown said while half teasing Bee, not even phased by the knowledge that Twitch was watching them.
“I’m gonna let you fall.”
Bee said jokingly, but with his serious tone.
“Ouch, you wound me with your threats.”
Breakdown said, faking being hurt and putting his free hand over his spark.
“Good, that’s what a threat is for.”
Bee rolled his eyes.
Bee helped his friend, though could they really even call themselves that anymore? Bee helped his more than friend back to the medical table.
“I really need to talk to Shockwave and ask him if I can stay in my room now. This table is uncomfortable as frag.”
Breakdown said, which earned him a swift elbow to the gut from Bee.
“Watch your language around young audio receptors.”
“Sorry.”
Breakdown said in slight pain.
“What does frag mean?”
Twitch asked with so much innocence.
Bee shot Breakdown a deadly glare.
“Great going.”
Breakdown gave him a nervous look.
Bee turned back to Twitch.
“Uh, just don’t worry about it.”
“Well now we’re definitely going to worry about it.”
Thrash said.
“Yeah, tell us what it meaaaaans!”
Hashtag begs.
“I said don’t worry about it.”
Bee said with his strict voice, crossing his arms over his chest.
Twitch and Thrash knew this meant it was time to drop it, but Hashtag didn’t give up.
“If you won’t tell me, I'm gonna ask Starscream.”
Hashtag pouted.
Bee got a funny idea in his head.
“You know what? You go do that.”
“Really?”
Hashtag asked with clear confusion in her voice.
“Yeah.”
Bee replied calmly.
“That’ll be good.”
Breakdown muttered to Bee and snickered quietly and Bee chuckled back.
A couple months of recovery and physical therapy later, Breakdown is finally allowed to use his leg, transform, and race again.
When they greeted each other at the barn, the con unexpectedly grabbed Bee’s head with both hands and kissed him. Bee was taken back but he didn’t deny the kiss, kissing him back and wrapping his arms around the cons waist.
“Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww”
All seven Terrans and kids simultaneously said while watching them.
“Oh hush, you see your parents kiss all the time.”
Bee told them.
“And we tell them the same thing, ewwww!”
Mo said dramatically.
“No time for chit chat kids, I'm stealing your teacher for the day.”
Breakdown said before grabbing Bee and then dragging him away.
“Have fun!”
Twitch yelled after them.
Bee waved at the kids with his free hand before focusing on being dragged away
He's definitely gonna be busy racing for at least the next few months.
