Work Text:

Lucy knows that everyone hasn’t made it back from Guatemala safely. Her mind keeps drifting back to Tim and the last time they spoke. She told him to stay safe, but she was freaking out internally. It’s two in the morning and sleep isn’t coming easily. Lucy hates being in her apartment. It’s not the same without Jackson.

She slides out of bed, slips her shoes on, and grabs her keys. She grabs her wallet and phone too. Lucy drives to Tim’s house, not even sure what to expect. It’s dark because it’s so late and Tim’s not even back yet.

Lucy opens the door and turns the alarm off. Kojo is instantly by her side and Lucy sits on the floor to give him belly rubs. “I’ve missed you so much boy.” When Lucy stands up, he goes to lay in bed. Her head is spinning and she just can’t lose anyone else. Tim has become one of the most important people in her life and she is absolutely terrified that something will happen. He only told her when they should be back, but she hasn’t actually heard from him since before they went to Plan B. “I hope your daddy gets back soon.”

Lucy knows that if Wesley hadn’t called the other night, she would have gone into Tim’s room. She craved his comfort and maybe at that moment it wasn’t the right time. The last few days have shown her that life is too short to waste time. Her feelings have grown more throughout the last year than she expected. Even before Tim saved her life, she was starting to feel differently, but with him being her TO, she shoved her feelings down. Lucy wipes a few tears away and goes to find a sweatshirt of Tim’s. She slips it on and then decides to switch to a pair of his sweatpants.

Lucy is swimming in his clothes and she inhales Tim’s scent. When she sits on the couch, she wraps her arms around herself. The tears come fast and she finally allows herself to fall apart. She doesn’t know how long she cries or when she finally drifts off to sleep. All Lucy knows is that she feels a hand on her shoulder and then she swears she feels Tim kiss the top of her head. “Tim.” Her voice is filled with sleep, but she manages to mumble his name.

“I’m back.” It’s a whisper and she manages to pry her eyes open. He’s kneeling in front of her and she launches herself at him. He catches her and maneuvers them so they’re both more comfortable. He doesn’t let go of her. “I’m okay and I’m safe.”

Lucy can feel herself relax in his arms. “I’m so glad that you’re okay.” She places her hand on his chest and feels his heart beating. “That was terrifying for me. How are you feeling?” She can’t imagine how he feels right now.

Tim lets out a shaky breath. “I’m much better than I was.” He admits. There’s so much meaning behind his words and they both feel it.

“You’re home safe now.” She knows she should ask about Angela but she is exhausted. There’s been very little sleep for both of them the last few days.

“Let’s go to bed. We can talk more in the morning.” Tim’s voice is soft and Lucy opens her eyes to look at him. “Come on.” He stands them both up and Lucy takes his hand. Both of them need the comfort of each other and neither hesitate to follow the other.

Lucy easily slides into the bed. Tim isn’t too far behind her and he opens his arms to her. She easily curls around him and she fits perfectly in his arms. “Good night. Sleep well.”

“Night Tim.” Lucy’s already on her way to being asleep. “Love you.” Tim hasn’t quite fallen asleep but he sees that Lucy is.

“I love you too, Lucy Chen.” His voice is a whisper and he fights his emotions back. His best friend came back and Lucy lost hers. It breaks his heart and he wishes that he could take the pain away from her. He tightens his arms and falls asleep.

Both of them sleep until almost twelve the next day. When Lucy wakes up, she’s a bit disoriented until the early morning events come back to her. A smile spreads across her face and she takes the time to really look at Tim. He’s fast asleep. Her hands gently trace along his cheeks and down his arms. Tim starts to stir and he blinks his eyes open. He smiles when he sees her staring.

“Morning sleepy head.” Lucy runs the back of her hand along his cheek.

“I haven’t slept that well in a long time.” He admits and Lucy rests her head on Tim’s chest again. Her fingers run along his chest.

“Neither have I. I don’t want to leave.” They’ve been through a lot together and they’re both done hiding.

“You don’t need to.” Lucy hums in agreement and neither of them are phased by the answer. “You can stay for as long as you want.” He once again kisses the top of her head.

“I think forever sounds pretty perfect.” Lucy knows that things are changing between them. Tim moves slightly and Lucy looks up at him.

“I don’t want just a few moments with you Lucy. I want forever with you too. I want the good, the bad, the messy, and everything in between. Life is too short and you’re the only one I can picture my life with.” Tim doesn’t usually talk that much, but with Lucy, he can’t seem to stop. “I’m in love with you.”

Lucy has tears rolling down her face. “I’m in love with you too. I want all of those moments and you’re the only one that I picture my future with.”

Tim cups her cheek and neither waste time in crashing their lips against the others. Once they pull back, Tim pushes some of Lucy’s hair behind her ear. “You’re so perfect, Lucy.”

“You’re pretty perfect too.” She pulls him closer and kisses him again. “And you’re a really good kisser.”

Tim’s lips start to curl upward. “I think you’re a pretty good kisser too, but I need one more to really judge it.”

“Hmm, if you really insist, I think that I can help with that.” Tim can’t stop himself from letting his hands roam. He craves Lucy and now that they’ve taken this step, he never wants to let her go. “So I think we can move past the awkward dating stage.” Lucy grins.

Tim shrugs his shoulders. “I mean, I can, but you might need some help with that.” She slaps his chest, but can’t even get two words in before he’s kissing her again.

“Does this mean that I don’t have to go back to my apartment?” Lucy doesn’t want to bring the mood down, but it would be pretty perfect to stay.

“I told you that you can stay for as long as you wanted. We can even go pack your things today if you want.” He tries to get out of bed but Lucy pulls him back.

“We each have a week off. We can worry about that tomorrow. For today, can we just please stay like this?” There’s nothing that Tim wants more than to stay exactly how they are.

“We can stay like this for as long as you want.” He murmurs.

Lucy starts to giggle. “Grey may not appreciate that.” Tim chuckles and Lucy makes herself comfortable against him. “I don’t know if I can say goodbye to Jackson.” Lucy finally admits.

He rubs her back and comforts her as best as he can. “I’m not leaving your side. I’m so sorry that he’s gone. I’ve got you.” She doesn’t want to cry anymore but Jackson was a big part of her life.

“He told me he’d be my Man of Honor when we finally got together and I laughed it off. He always knew Tim.” Lucy whispers out.

Jackson really did always tease her about it. “He’s always going to live on through all of us, okay? You’re not alone and never will be.”

“Thank you.” She finally whispers and Tim would do anything to keep those tears off her face. She’s hurting and he knows that not much will help.

“Always.” That one word means more than she can put into words.

Three months later, Angela gives birth. She invites Tim and Lucy to the hospital first to meet their son. “He’s so beautiful, Ange.” Lucy hugs her and Tim is standing next to Wesley.

“This is Jackson.” Lucy gasps and she lets her tears fall.

Things have gotten better because she has the most supportive and caring people in her life. “Ange.”

“He saved my life and he will always live on through all of us. Would you like to hold him?” Lucy nods and goes to put hand sanitizer on.

Angela hands the baby over and Tim comes to stand next to her. “He’s beautiful. Look at you.”

“I want the two of you to officially meet your godson.” Lucy is really glad that she doesn’t drop the baby from her shock.

“Really?” Tim speaks because Lucy can’t. Angela nods and Tim wraps his arm around Lucy. “Thank you, both of you.”

Wesley sits down next to his wife and watches their friends. “They’ll make great parents one day.” Angela says quietly.

She watches how Tim watches Lucy and it makes her emotional. “I love you.” Tim whispers and this is one of the greatest moments for them.

“I love you, Tim. I can’t wait to have this one day.” Lucy murmurs.

Tim kisses the side of her head and can’t take his eyes off Lucy. “Neither can I, baby, neither can I.”
