Chapter Text
Citra
Ever since I was a kid, all I ever wanted was to help and protect people. I was raised in a beautiful home with loving parents and, somewhat, great siblings. I'm just kidding they're horrible—my siblings not my parents.
My family always had a motto which was to always help those in need. And it worked. My older brother is now a successful lawyer, my younger sister is a nurse, and I am becoming a SHIELD agent. Well, not now. I still have to pass my evaluation and interviews. But I'm hopeful that I'll get the job.
Working at SHIELD has always been my dream ever since the Avengers first saved the world. After that, I got into the Air Force. I trained my ass off to be the best. I also trained myself in analysis turns out it's something that I enjoyed.
Maybe it's because I was obsessed with watching criminal minds but there's something so fascinating about the person behind every case. The one who no one really cares about. The one who helps the heroes. And that's what I would do. Helping the Avengers.
I never liked being in the public eye. I am more likely to want to be invisible. As an introvert, I never really like people that much I would rather do things alone but I don't really mind companies.
I hate being on news outlets and stuff. Talking to the press is my worst nightmare. So I just choose analysis as, in a way, I'm helpful but won't draw attention to me so it's a win-win situation.
"Miss Mura we're ready for you" Miss Hill, the Avengers' secretary, said. Her stern voice awakened me from my thoughts. I nodded my head and gulped nervously. With hesitation, I walked into the interview room.
As I sit down, already the feeling of anxiety fills my body as my whole body jitters with nervousness. Fidgeting with my hand, I focus my attention on Miss Hill who is currently looking at my CV.
After answering the usual question for Miss Hill, she asked me a question that shocked me. "Miss Mura, allow me to be frank here but why would you, a brilliant young woman, would want to work here?"
The question almost stopped my heart. From all the questions I have practiced to myself in the mirror, this is certainly not the question I was prepared for.
"I'm sorry?" I ask as I am not fully understand what she meant. Did she mean it in a bad way or a good way? Oh God! Is this how I can't get into SHIELD? Is she sweet-talking me? Is that it?
"You are more than qualified to work pretty much anywhere you want so why do you choose SHEILD?" her stern voice turned soft once she saw how nervous I was. Probably from my trembling hands and feet.
I changed into a more comfortable sitting position as I thought about my answer. I take a deep breath before answering.
"Well, all my life my family has taught me to do good and to always help people. From helping the elderly cross the streets or protecting a friend from perverted guys. For most people, they already know their destiny in this world. And my destiny is to help protect the world. Shield have always protected this world from many dangers. Look at The Battle of New York, for example. The world has never felt safer when the Avengers defend the world. I want to make this world a safer place for those people too" I explain my reason.
Miss Hill replied with a smile on her face making me sigh in relief. "well, congratulations Miss Mura you are hired." she smiled at me. I look at her in shock. I didn't really know what to expect but getting the job right away is not that.
While I figured that I would get hired from emails, I didn't not expect it to get hired today. This might be the best. "really?" I ask in disbelief.
"yes, Miss Mura" she smiled at me. She hands her right hand out for me to shake and I shake it with a huge smile on my face.
"when can I start the job?" I ask her happily and with pure excitement.
"is next week okay?" she asks.
Okay? Of course, it's more than okay. How can not say no to this? This is the opportunity of a lifetime. Ain't no way I'm gonna decline. Plus this is my dream job since I was a kid.
I nodded my head still the smile didn't fade at all from my face even though my face started to hurt from all the smiling.
After muttering a thousand Thank you thousand times, I get out of the room, and as the door closes, I jump in excitement because I was so focused on getting the job, that I didn't know I bumped into someone.
"gosh I am so sorry," I said to the person who turned out to be Shang-Chi the new recruit from the Avenger.
"great. you spilled coffee all over my new shirt" he replied as he looked at his coffee-stained shirt.
"I'm so sorry. I could get you a new shirt" I said to him as I took a bunch of tissues from my bag and dabbed the coffee from his shirt.
"don't bother" he retorted and left me alone in the corridor.
"I'm sorry," I said again as his back faced me.
I put my hand on my forehead. "great first day on the job, Citra" I sarcastically to myself and walk out of the building.
