Serena was still crying over her scraped knee all this time later, and Yuri was being blamed for it. Well, he was partially to blame.
"I didn't mean to trip you," he said once again. "It wasn't intentional. Why don't you believe me?"
"Liar!" Serena wailed.
Yuri started to shake his head. "Please stop crying. Soldiers don't cry."
"But, it hurts!" Serena screeched loudly.
Yuri couldn't stop himself from wincing. Serena could be quite loud if she wanted to be.
"Okay, Serena. There, there. I'll go find a bandage..."
"You better," she sniffed.
So, he'd better get to work because the longer Serena was in pain, the longer he would be in pain.
Yuri did more than just find a bandage. He found some antiseptic and even an ice pack.
With purpose, he walked back to Serena brandishing several items.
The purple-haired girl eyed the items. "I don't need ice. It's just a scrape." Serena protested.
"We'll see."
Yuri bent down on his knees to inspect area. Perhaps, she was right as there was no evidence of bruising. Still, it never hurt to be thorough. But, Serena was plainly bleeding. The wound would have to be cleaned thoroughly.
Serena hissed when he sprayed the antiseptic on the scrape.
"Be more gentle, would you?"
"The bacteria needs to be flushed. It's going to hurt. Let's wait for it to dry."
As the two rested on the too high grass, the harsh sun beat down on the two of them. It was getting too hot for what was supposed to be a mild spring day.
"Yuri, could you go a little faster."
He smiled. "Patience, Serena."
Yuri picked up a bandage and unwrapped it before carefully sticking the beige item to Serena's skin. Yuri studied his work.
"Looks good. Better?"
Serena flicked away a stray tear. "It still hurts."
"Time will take care of that." Yuri said.
"I better not scar," she intoned.
Then, a sudden perverse thrill of pleasure If she did, he would be his scar. Emblazoned on Serena's ankle forever. And, he would have been responsible. But, he truly didn't want to they were supposed to be on the same side.
"Let me help you up, my lady," Yuri offered smoothly.
Somehow, he grabbed hold of her hand and hauled Serena to her feet.
"Don't trip me again," she said.
Yuri sighed. "I already told you that I didn't do it on purpose."
Serena stayed silent. It could always be dangerous if Serena was quiet. It either meant that she was thinking deeply or plotting.
"Come on, let me treat you to an ice cream."
Thankfully, Serena didn't protest. Honestly, he could use a break as well.
Yuri had no idea that he would be playing nursemaid today.
And so, the two walked hand in hand to the ice cream stand in the park.
