Summary
Peyton was adopted by Grayson and Miranda Gilbert after experiencing severe trauma in her childhood. Grayson, a doctor, met her during a night shift and decided to take her in when he learned she had no family. Although she wasn't their biological daughter, she became deeply integrated into the family, especially with Elena.
Years later, a car accident claimed the lives of her adoptive parents. Peyton and Elena were also in the vehicle, but they miraculously survived. Since then, Peyton returned to her silence, just like when she first arrived at the Gilberts'. Elena felt guilty—both for the loss of their parents and for her sister's relapse.
Things became more complicated with the arrival of Stefan and Damon Salvatore, two enigmatic brothers who turned out to be vampires. Their appearance marked the beginning of a new chapter filled with secrets and dangers—ones that would soon affect Peyton as well.
