The Great Cure Café Catastrophe

Summary:

Mana wanted a cute pop-up café. What she got was flying cupcakes, rogue magic, and a slapstick disaster that somehow counts as 'customer entertainment'. Good thing saving the day was kind of their thing.

THE EVER EXPANDING GROUP (10:02)

Dream: wait who's starting cure cafe?

Black: they're starting a what now

Black: mkay i just backread

Black: why tho

White: Reika told me it was for charity. That sounds like something Mana would want to do.

White: Do we interfere?

Rhythm: they have Rikka and Reika. and Ellen can get a bit chaotic but Rikka and Reika have a deadly fear factor.

Rouge: They should be fine. I hope.

Sunlight poured through wide windows, casting a soft golden glow over the pop-up café’s cozy interior. Neatly arranged tables, each draped with pastel cloths in soft pinks and sky blues, dotted the room like delicate confections themselves. A gentle fragrance of vanilla and fresh strawberries hung in the air, mingling with the faint sparkle of glitter dust—courtesy of Miyuki’s carefully placed centerpieces.

Handwritten menus in swirling, cheerful fonts stood beside tiny flower vases, while colourful paper bunting looped overhead like a festive ribbon. Behind the polished counter, glass display cases gleamed, showcasing rows of flawless cupcakes, dainty macarons, and intricately layered parfaits. The gentle hum of light conversation mixed with the soft clatter of teacups, completing the picture of a sweet, tranquil café.

If only it would stay that way.

Mana cheerfully clapped her hands. "Alright! We’ve got our menu set, the tables look perfect, and the sweets are ready. This is going to be smooth sailing!"

"The prep work is done, schedules are set… As long as we stick to the plan, there’s no reason for anything unexpected." Rikka said as she checked her clipboard and sighed.

Reika nodded with a calm smile, "With everyone working together, I’m sure it will be a peaceful and successful event."

Ichika beamed as she bounded out of the kitchen, "And with my extra-special Sparkling Animal Cupcakes, we’ll be a huge hit!"

"I’ve even prepared a few harmless enchantments—just to make everything a little more magical!" Mirai giggled as she flicked her wand.

Ellen's arms were crossed as she frowned, "As long as you don’t expect me to wear some frilly maid uniform, I’m fine. I’ll handle the customers with class."

Mana leaned over to whisper to Rikka. "If Ellen doesn't want to really be here then why is she? It was optional, no?"

"Yes but Hibiki and Kanade telling her to socialise with other Cures isn’t optional."

"Ah."

Miyuki smiled brightly, "It’s going to be the cutest, happiest café ever… I can feel it! It's going to be Ultra Happy!"

They all turned as they heart a tray clatter from the kitchen.

Mana laughed nervously and waved it off, "See? Everything’s fine. Touchwood."

"…That’s probably not a bad omen at all."

Turns out it was a bad omen.

Some time passed and the soft jingle of the door chime cut through the morning calm and a neatly dressed woman stepped inside, smiling warmly as she glanced around the pastel coloured café.

"Oh, what a charming little place. I’ll have a cup of tea and one of those strawberry cupcakes, please." She said.

Mana beamed, "Coming right up!"

At the counter, Ichika grabbed a cupcake with a flourish—only for the tongs to snap shut a little too hard, sending the delicate treat sailing through the air.

"Oh shit—!"

Reika, standing beside the counter with perfect poise, caught the cupcake mid-flight… with the palm of her hand. Frosting squished between her fingers.

"…I believe this isn’t quite the presentation we were aiming for."

Miyuki giggled nervously, "Haha...I’ll bring her a different one!"

She reached for the display case—just as Mirai muttered a soft incantation under her breath to make the plates float toward the tables. The enchanted tray lifted gracefully… until the spell sparked and the tray jerked, sending the plates wobbling dangerously.

Rikka narrowed her eyes, "Mirai, what exactly did you—"

CRASH!

The tray tipped sideways, three teacups tumbling off and shattering right beside Ellen's feet.

"…So this is how it starts." she deadpanned. Mana’s laugh rang out, a little too high-pitched to be natural.

"I-it’s fine! First day jitters! We’ve got this!"

A cupcake slid off a floating plate and landed with a soft plop directly into the first customer’s teacup.

The customer blinked. “Oh! Is this part of the performance?" she said cheerfully. Mana shot the others a wide, panicked grin.

"O-of course! This is… our special Interactive Dessert Experience!" she said, lying like a liar lies.

Miyuki clasped her hands together, latching onto the idea with a sparkle in her eyes. "That’s right! Our sweets aren’t just delicious — they’re full of surprises! Ultra Happy!"

The customer gave a delighted clap. "How creative! I’ve never seen anything like this!"

Behind the counter, Rikka leaned toward Mana, her voice low and razor-sharp. "We don’t even know what the surprises are!" she hissed.

"We’ll figure it out!" Mana said through a strained smile. Meanwhile, Mirai hurriedly flicked her wand to lower the floating plates.

"Down… nice and easy… please…"

One plate obeyed — only to nudge a nearby sugar jar off the shelf. The jar teetered… then tipped.

With a lightning-fast reflex, Reika reached out and caught it — but as she had exhaled in relief, Miyuki, flailing to add glitter to the 'performance', had tripped beside her and accidentally sent a full shaker of rainbow sprinkles flying through the air.

The sprinkles had rained down over Reika’s perfectly styled hair.

"…Charming." she said staring daggers at Miyuki, her voice flat.

At the front, Ellen had stepped forward with all the calm dignity of a performer, placing a hand over her heart.

"Dear guest, please enjoy this… unscripted, limited-time performance." She said smoothly.

She executed a flawless bow—just as Ichika emerged from the kitchen carrying a replacement cupcake. She tripped over a stray spoon, launching the cupcake forward like a cannonball… straight into Ellen’s face.

There was a heartbeat of silence.

The customer burst out laughing. "This is the most entertaining café I’ve ever been to!"

Mana turned to the others with a bright, fixed smile. "Okay… new plan. We make this a comedy café." she said through her teeth.

"…I’ll draft a waiver for the customers." Rikka sighed.

It was a disaster.

Rikka shrieked.

"Ichika, you were supposed to stir the batter, not—why is it on the ceiling?! I thought you were supposed to be a legendary patissier!"

"I stirred too hard! It was… velocity!" Ichika said frantically.

"That's not how physics works!"

Mirai waved her wand, "I’ll fix it with some sparkle!" she said as glitter flew into Reika's face.

"…That was unnecessary." Reika deadpanned.

"Sorry! At least the plates are moving to the tables, right?" Mirai said.

Ellen dodged a cupcake. "Does this look like table service to you?!"

Mana laughed nervously and looked at Rikka who looked completely fed up. "Let’s… call it an interactive experience!"

"We’re going to need a bigger apology banner." she said flatly.

"I’m considering early retirement." Reika said. She was sitting on one of the chairs sipping, ignoring how messy she looked at the moment.

"YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE A JOB! AND WHY ARE YOU SITTING DOWN?!"

By midday, the 'Disaster Café' was packed. Customers filled every table, some snapping photos, others laughing as they watched the girls scramble in what had become a full-blown slapstick act.

Ichika dashed from table to table, balancing plates like a circus performer—occasionally spinning a cupcake on her finger 'for show'. Mirai used her wand to make heart-shaped puffs of glitter float harmlessly through the air, much to the delight of the younger customers. Miyuki gave sparkly 'Magical Waitress Winks' every time she delivered an order—often tripping, but somehow making it look intentional.

Ellen worked the crowd with the polished smile and attitude of a performer, occasionally tossing in a playful eye roll or a dramatic sigh for laughs. Even Rikka and Reika, both resigned but secretly amused, leaned into the act: Rikka presented each dish with an exaggerated flourish like a magician’s assistant, while Reika delivered tea with a perfectly deadpan expression—often interrupted by another accidental mishap by Miyuki.

At the center of it all stood Mana, arms open wide.

“Welcome to the café where the chaos is part of the charm!”

The room erupted in applause. When the last customer finally left—grinning and promising to tell their friends—the girls gathered in the middle of the room, exhausted.
