Proposal

Summary:

Dagon has a suggestion

Work Text:

Dagon had spent the last two hours watching Michael train, a stupid smile on her face and half-slumped on the table in one of the training rooms in heaven, yes in heaven but Michael had been clear, no one was to disturb her until she was finished. The demon had therefore taken the opportunity to sneak in and observe her magnificent partner, she loved watching her train, well she loved watching her whatever she did. She analyzed the movements of the angel, so graceful but so deadly to anyone who would be in front of her. Her expressions, always so serious even if it was obvious that she loved it.

Michael finally stopped. It was rare for her to stop on her own, often it took an emergency or for someone to stop her. She turned her head toward Dagon, breathing faster than usual but despite several hours of exercise, she barely seemed out of breath.

" Aren't you bored ? " she asked, pulling the redhead out of her thoughts.

" Never when I look at you, love, " replied Dagon, still looking at her with a loving and fascinated gaze.

Michael huffed a laugh and rolled her eyes, quickly looking away, perhaps also to hide her slight blush. How did that idiot demon manage to get her into this state just with a stupid nickname...

" You're silly, " she said.

" Yes I am, " replied Dagon. " You choose me anyway, " she added proudly. " Aw, look at you, you're beautiful when you smile. "

" Stop it, " replied the angel, pointing her sword at her.

" Make me, " said Dagon, getting up to approach her until the tip of the sword pressed against her chest, she felt the slight burn of the weapon against her skin.

Michael squinted and noticed the smile that hadn't left her face. " You have that face when you have a bad idea, talk, what are you planning ? " she asked, putting away her sword.

" I have something to suggest. "

" I'm listening, " said Michael, putting her weapon back in its scabbard.

" We fight. If I win, you are my wife. "

Michael looked suspicious. " What do you mean ? "

" If I win, you marry me, " specified the demon.

" Marry you ? "

" Don't say it in that tone, would that be so unpleasant ? We're already together. "

" I didn't think that would be something you'd think about. It's more like an angel's thought. "

" Well, I do, " affirmed Dagon. " Just have a fight, you love that. "

" What if I win ? "

" I'll be your servant for a week. "

The brunette raised an eyebrow with a thin smile. " It's almost tempting. "

" So, deal ? "

" You've never won before. "

" Before. " repeated Dagon.

" Alright, deal. "

Dagon smiled proudly. " That's my angel. But not with your sword, that would be too easy. "

" Not that it changes anything, but if you insist, " said the angel, handing her her weapon, which, incidentally, was an extreme display of trust.

Dagon threw another sword at her, which Michael easily caught.

" You really had it all planned out, " said Michael.

" Of course, " assured Dagon. " Do you feel confident ? "

" Always, " replied the brunette, getting into a fighting stance. " Show me your improvements, demon. "

" I love it when you call me that, " Dagon almost cooed.

" I could call you parasite and you'd love it, " huffed the angel.

" Oh you know- "

Dagon was cut by a sword strike that she barely parried. She looked at her, mock-outraged.

" What ? I thought you wanted to fight, " said the angel.

" Oh, but I want to, " replied Dagon, pushing her away and starting to attack.

Michael parried her blows almost effortlessly. Dagon had spent the last few hours analyzing the angel's movements and hoped she wouldn't change her tactics. However, even with so much observation, it was difficult to reach her. Her strikes were calculated, her dodges controlled. Their fight lasted a long time, their efforts growing louder and then quieter, metal clanging throughout the room as Dagon struggled to pierce Michael's defenses. The brunette's blade slid along her opponent's and nearly sliced into her upper arm. Dagon took a step back with a silent gasp.

" Oops, " Michael said with a fake pout and a small smirk.

" Don't pretend to be sorry, " growled Dagon.

" I didn't apologize. "

" You- "

She really needed to stop staring at her and fight for real, she was worth her hand damn it !

The next clash of their swords sent jolts through both of their bodies. Their swords crossed in front of their faces, and their gazes met.

" Indeed, you've improved, " remarked Michael.

" I have an excellent teacher. "

" Better, but not the best, " the brunette said with a wink, which confused the duke, only for a second but enough to make her loosen her grip.

" Hm ? "

Michael swung her foot to kick one of Dagon's ankles, her foot hitting her other foot and knocking her over. The angel matched her movement by grabbing her arms so she couldn't catch herself.

" Won, " Michael said simply, holding her down, sitting on her hips, it was more convenient to keep her on the ground. " You don't watch your legs enough. "

" I'm looking at yours more, I admit, " said Dagon.

" You need to focus, " the brunette told her.

" It's your fault, you distracted me. "

" I am a distraction ? "

" You are and you know it, you're using it against me. "

" Of course I'm using it, " replied Michael. " I already have a bunch of ideas about what I could ask you to do- "

Before she could finish her sentence, Dagon grabbed the back of her neck and pulled her into a kiss. Michael lost her balance, not to mention her focus, for only a second, and Dagon took the opportunity to try to lock her legs and switch positions. The angel managed to free herself enough before Dagon could act, she reached out her arm to try and retrieve her weapon. But the redhead was faster, grabbing her arm and pull her over her shoulder into a tightly controlled hold. Michael fell heavily onto her back, letting out a short exhale. Dagon grabbed her arms at the elbows and locked her legs with her own and her weight.

" You didn't see that one coming, admit it, " Dagon said from above her.

Michael tried to get up, but the demon pressed against her more tightly, keeping her down, without hurting her enough so that she couldn't move or free herself.

" I admit, well played, " admitted Michael, staring at her. " Cheating always works. "

" I didn't specify that cheating was prohibited, " said Dagon.

" But I couldn't use my own sword ? "

" This thing can kill me. "

" I can kill you myself. "

" But you won't do it. You love me too much for that. "

Dagon leaned down to capture her mouth, passionately, as if it were the first time in months. Michael placed her hands on either side of her face to deepen their kiss.

" You're very determined, " said the angel against her lips.

" More than you can imagine, " affirmed Dagon.

" You want me as wife for real ? "

" Guess, genius " replied Dagon, poking her forehead.

The brunette sat up as Dagon sat back on her heels. " You know what it means ? "

" Of course I know. "

" We're not humans, " Michael told her. " We cannot break this oath. "

" That's why, angel, " said the demon, helping her up.

" Would you seal your life with mine ? Forever ? "

" Without hesitation. "

" You couldn't escape. "

" That's tragic indeed. "

" Whatever happens ? "

" For better or for worse, that's what they say, right ? "

Dagon could act silly sometimes... often, but she seemed very serious at that moment.

" With you, it'll be for the worst, won't it ? " said Michael.

" Oooh yeah. But don't pretend you don't like it. "

" So where's my ring ? " asked Michael, holding out her left hand.

It was meant to be some kind of joke, she hadn't really expected Dagon to slip a ring on her finger right then and there.

" Here, " replied the demon.

Michael froze for a moment, staring at her hand and her golden ring adorned with tiny feather motifs.

" Yeah, sorry, they're not perfect, I engraved them myself, " said Dagon.

The angel looked up at her, still without speaking.

" Well, if you don't like it, that's okay, I can just have another one professionally engraved. Or one without engraving if you prefer- "

She was cut off by Michael, who hugged her. " It's perfect like this, " she told her.

" So it's a yes ? Do you accept ? " asked Dagon, tightening her grip around her.

The angel stepped back so she could look at her. " I think you won. It was the deal. "

" I didn't hear that clearly, angel, " teased the redhead.

" Yes. Yes I do. "
