Write me off, give up on me

Summary:

“Dude, your leg!” Patrick panicked, rummaging through his bag, for gauze, or bandages, or something to help.

“Just– fucking–” Andy started, grabbing the bag from him, “Find Pete. Joe and I can figure out what to do from here.”

“But–”

“Pete is trapped, Patrick!” Joe yelled, “Andy’s leg might get infected, but Pete’s life might fucking end!”

Notes:

Fun fact: Joe was also meant to be a vampire in the music video, it just never really came up!!

I wrote this in about an hour, I hope you enjoy :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Patrick pulled his jacket tighter around his body. He hated the fact that they had to work at night, even if it accommodated his horrific sleeping habits. The hairs on his arms stood, clinging to the thick fabric, his body shaking due the wind.

Joe sat next to him, flicking his lighter on and off to pass time. Patrick was adding onto Joe’s report, the most recent finding being ‘cravings increase whilst having sex’, which sent shivers down his spine while writing.

The two’s boredom quickly subsided when they saw Andy stumbling out of the building they were sitting outside of. He was out of breath, collapsing on the floor. Patrick’s panic rose when he didn't see Pete following behind.

“Go– Go find Pete, he’s somewhere in there, still. I think some of the vampires might've gotten him already.” Andy huffed, glancing at Patrick, and clutching his own leg.

Patrick huffed, picking up his bag momentarily to grab a stake, and chucked it back to the others. He paused, until Andy kicked him in the foot, causing them both to yelp, and Patrick to get moving.

Patrick pushed the large door open, wincing when it creaked, and stepped inside.

The first thing he noticed is how much colder it is inside, his already tight pants almost freezing onto him. He tightened his grip on the stake as he trekked through the halls. He probably should've asked Andy what room they were in.

When he tried to listen out for Pete, he noticed the silence throughout the building. Which either meant there are vampires hiding and waiting to pounce, or they’ve already left, possibly with Pete.

A quiet whine echoed through the halls, making Patrick freeze, and look around, hoping to locate where the noise came from. He noticed a door left slightly ajar, and he pushed it open further, seeing a crumpled man in the centre.

“Pete?” Patrick asked warily. The man turned his head, and confirmed his suspicions. “Fuck, are you okay?”

Pete quickly crawled away into the corner of the room, furthest from Patrick, “I– I’m sorry, Patrick. Stay away. Please.”

Pete sounded so small, and his words caught Patrick off guard. He quickly looked around, making sure there weren't any hidden vampires.

“Patrick, get out of here. I don't want to hurt you.” His voice fell off at the end, almost emulating a whimper.

Patrick sighed and sat down, “I’m not leaving, especially not until you tell me what happened. I… won't come any closer, but I don't want you to fucking die in here.”

“I already did.” He looked up when he said this, making short-lived eye-contact with Patrick. Pete bared his teeth, the moonlight catching on one of the long, sharp fangs. Patrick’s breath hitched, and Pete responded by dropping his head, and curling in on himself.

Patrick dropped the stake in his hand, and breathed out a shuddery breath.

“I'm sorry.” Pete said, and brought an arm up to his eyes, “Dude, this fucking blows, I can't even cry anymore.”

Patrick stuttered out a laugh, making Pete weakly grin back, “I’m gonna go grab something I left with the guys, I’ll be right back.”

“You're– You're not gonna leave me here, right?”

“Of course not, you'll thank me. Hopefully.” He grinned, and stood up and headed for the door, “You better not leave me, either.”

“Wouldn't dream of it.”

Patrick returned to the others, and saw Andy’s leg patched up, with Joe loudly snoring next to him. Patrick kneeled down to grab his bag.

“Is he… alright? Alive at least?” Andy asked, rhythmically tapping his fingers against his knees.

“He's alright, but not quite alive…” Patrick replied, unzipping his bag, and looking through it, “He's been turned.”

“Shit.” Andy whispered, “How's he taking it?”

“Honestly? Better than expected.” Patrick produced a red scarf from his bag, “I just… need to regain his trust in himself. He’s terrified of hurting me.”

“Doesn't it already say something that he's repressing his urges?” Andy said.

“Yeah, but, do you really think telling him that's gonna change his mind?”

Andy sighed, “Well, just get him what he needs, and… remind him that we've gone through this once, we aren't gonna change our mind the second time.”

Patrick gave him a small smile and nodded, carrying the scarf and a few bandages inside.

“Pete?” Patrick called out. Pete looked up and smiled, the tips of his fangs hanging out of his mouth, “I brought you a scarf, I remember Joe was really cold when he first turned, so I wanted to make sure you wouldn't freeze.”

Pete gulped the closer Patrick got.

“Pete, I trust you not to hurt me.” Patrick promised, before hesitating slightly, “How hungry are you?”

Pete looked startled, which quickly turned to a shameful expression, “I– already ate.”

Patrick's face fell at the implication, and he sat down next to him, covering the two of them in the woolen scarf, “I won't let them hurt you again. We won't let them hurt you.”

They make eye contact, and Patrick can see the red in Pete’s eyes. Patrick can see the way Pete leans in. And Patrick can feel Pete resting his head against his collarbone.

“Thank you.”
