Work Text:
It had been a week since the power plant and it was the first day that Quynh seemed to do considerably better.
She hadn’t randomly dozed off anymore, her wound looked fine regarding the circumstances, and she actually seemed to have regained her appetite. That’s why Andy had suggested for them to cook dinner together that night.
So they were both standing in Tuah’s kitchen, surrounded by the groceries Andy had bought earlier, cutting vegetables.
“I think some of nowadays’ food will take me a while to get used to,” Quynh said, as she was chopping a carrot.
“Like what?” Andy gave her a questioning look, but enjoyed the fact that Quynh seemed to be in a conversational mood.
They’d started to talk a little more every day this past week, and there were no words to describe how relieved Andy was about this. Quynh didn’t appear to hold a grudge against her any longer, and had even given her back the necklace. Andy considered this as something like a peace offering.
“All those sweets and artificial flavours. And what about those microwave cups? It seems rather disgusting,” Quynh said, making Andy chuckle.
“You don’t say.”
She couldn’t stop herself from smiling. Not because Quynh’s reply was that funny, but because she enjoyed this new-found companionship between them. It was like getting to know Quynh all over again.
“Is there anything new you liked trying?” Andy asked her then, curious about Quynh’s experiences with the modern world. She couldn't even imagine what getting accustomed to life in the twenty-first century must be like after just having been thrown into it.
“Strawberry ice cream,” Quynh replied, without having to think long, and it made Andy smile widely. She took a mental note to remember buying some for Quynh on her next grocery run. "What about you?” Quynh wanted to know, disrupting the thoughts about her mental shopping list.
“Well, you know me… I’m a sucker for baklava.” Andy grinned and was pleased when Quynh let out a chuckle at this reply.
“You always have been.”
“What shall I say, it’s delicious.” She shrugged, noticing that she hadn’t cut any more mushrooms in a while because she’d been too busy gazing at Quynh. She still looked as beautiful and graceful as Andy had always remembered her during all these years – despite everything she went through.
“You know what else I remember to taste really sweet?” Quynh had turned fully towards her now, standing so closely that it made Andy swallow hard when she realised so.
“What?” Andy’s reply was merely a whisper and she could barely think straight with Quynh basically having her cornered against the kitchen counter like that.
“This,” Quynh whispered back, before leaning in even closer, pressing her soft lips against Andy’s for the first time in five-hundred years.
