Work Text:

It was the first roll of thunder that woke him. He knew that there were supposed to be rain storms but they had come earlier. Gao Tu, bleary eyed from how hard been sleeping, needed to blink to get his eyes to focus. Slowly he reached up to rub the sleep from his face. Allowing himself a stretch from where he’d gotten a little stiff from falling asleep on the couch after cleaning up from. It was as he was reaching to get his glasses that he heard the first pattering of rain. A soft smile spread across his face. Before getting up he checked the monitor to see that his little bun was still napping.

“Cute.” Gao Tu snorted in amusement at Gao Lele loafing on his stomach with his bum in the air. Shaking his head fondly, he sat the monitor down to head into the kitchen to make some tea before going to the back porch to enjoy watching the rain till his boy woke up.

Settling into the rocking chair on the porch with a fresh cup of green tea. Gao Tu let out a shaky breath and relaxed into the chair to take in the now heavy rain pouring down. It was days like this he enjoyed living in their small home in the country. He got to be closer to his family and allowed his son to live quietly. It was these thoughts that made him long for Shen Wenlang and to have his alpha see their son thriving. It was a bittersweet thought that he pushed back as quickly as he’d allowed himself to bring it to the front of his mind. Gao Tu let out another sigh then focused on the warmth of the tea as he sipped it.

The scent of catmint and sleep wafted through the open door near Gao Tu about thirty minutes later. He had long finished his tea and was happy to have his son’s company even if it was still a sleepy toddler who loved after nap cuddles.

“Hey, bunny.” Gao Tu smiling sweetly at his son as he sleepily stepped out onto the porch with him. Those adorable eyes were still blinking trying to focus just like his own had been when he’d woken. Gao Lele tilted his head up using his sense of smell to lead him to his daddy.

Gao Tu easily helped his son climb up into his lap and settle against his chest. He gently combed his finger through his son’s silky black strands. “Hey Bun. Sleep good?” Gao Tu pressed a kiss to the top of his head, earning a happy purr and nod from Gao Lele.  He released a bit more of his sage scent when his boy wrinkled his nose from the heavy rain scent in the air.

“Daddy, sleep well too?” Gao Lele asked softly, rubbing his face into the warm skin that Gao Tu’s v neck offered.

“Yeah, I did. Rainy days are perfect for naps.”

“No more naps.” Gao Lele responded right before yawning. “Lele doesn’t need them.”

“Oh,? Well Daddy does. Maybe you can supervise.” Gao Tu tried to keep his chuckle at bay but failed.

“I could do that.” Gao Lele yawned once more after speaking.

Notes:

Story notes:

- Gao Lele is three here and I made his scent catmint as it smells good blended with irises and sage in my opinion. I've not read the novel(s) so I am unfamiliar with their sub gender so I didn't mention it.
