The day started off like any other, but it wouldn’t stay that way. Azure had been planning something for.. Quite a few days now. Tending to their hidden flower garden, well- more than they usually did. Making sure each flower was perfect. While yes, it was tiring and a rather dirty task, they did it flawlessly.
Now, to put all their hard work to good use.
Their hair fixed nicely under their large, pale brown hat, purple nightshades decorating the middle band nicely. Making sure to look the best they could’ve, they chose to wear their muted brown, fitted sweatshirt, decorated by a large spawn symbol in the middle, and a pair of black jeans. With a soothing breath, they gently knocked on the door to their best friend’s home. Flattening out their sweatshirt in a subconsciously anxious movement. Everything would be okay, it would go just as they planned.. Right?
After what felt like hours to Azure, but was roughly five minutes, the door slowly opened, revealing a very.. Tired Two Time. Still wearing their spawn themed pajamas and pink eye mask. Azure couldn’t help but laugh softly, seemingly unsurprised that their friend was still not fully awake.
“Oh! Hello Azure- uh.. *yawn*.. Sorry, I seemed to have just woken up, was there something you needed?” They smiled softly, rubbing the sleep from their still tired eyes.
“It is okay my friend, do not worry. I was.. Only wanting to ask if you’d like to go.. Uhm.. on a date today. I have a surprise to show you..” As they spoke, their face warmed. Cheeks turning a soft red shade, hands fiddling with the other in front of them.
For a moment, the two sat in silence. Two Time staring at Azure for what felt like an uncomfortably long period of time before speaking. “S-sorry for my hesitation, I would.. I would love to go somewhere with you-” A warm red hue now creeping up Two Time’s neck and dusting their cheeks. “Were you wanting to go now..? It seems you are ready-”
Azure rubbed the back of their neck, avoiding eye contact with their friend, far too embarrassed to look them in the eyes. “Eheh, we are good to leave whenever you are awake and ready, there is no rush, besides, I feel it might be better to truly leave closer to sunset.”
Two Time gave a slow nod, smiling softly before backing up, opening the door wider in a silent offer of entry. “I shall get ready and we could figure something to do while you leave me in suspense, hm?”
The other let out a soft chuckle, finally looking at their friend. “Thank you, I’d actually love that. Have you eaten yet? I could make us some food while you get ready for the day.” Azure’s voice was soft and gentle, knowing the topic of food may trigger Two Time.
Two Time looked away, one hand fidgeting with the hem of their pajama sweatshirt. “Uhm, no.. I have not eaten today.. If you wish to make food, you may- I just.. May not eat it. My apologies.” Their voice quiet and unsure.
“Oh do not worry Timey, I completely understand, but I must insist you try to eat at least a small portion. You’ll need your energy for our excursion later, no?” Gently, they placed a hand on Two Time’s shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“.. I guess you are right, I shall try, but please be patient, I’m not the fastest eater.”
“It’ll be okay, we have all the time in the world. Now, go go- go get ready silly!” In an attempt to lighten the mood, Azure gave Two Time a gentle push, nudging them closer to their room. “I shall make you the best meal you’ve ever eaten.”
With a soft laugh, Two Time allowed themself to be pushed, stumbling to their room. With them now off getting ready, Azure took the time to go to the kitchen and start cooking a filling, yet easy to eat dish. Having the food plated and ready right as Two Time entered the kitchen, taking a soft whiff of the scents roaming the air.
“Wow, this smells lovely, what did you make?” They ask, their voice carrying like a soft hum.
“Oh, since you aren’t one for large meals, I thought sunny side up eggs on buttered toast would be a nice meal. Very filling and tastes amazing, I could even add some avocado if you’d like, it’ll add extra nutrients to the meal.”
“No no, this is perfect. I truly appreciate the effort you put into this, thank you Azure.” Two Time smiled, a soft and genuine smile. Gently, they gave them a soft hug, resting their head against the soft fabric of Azure’s sweatshirt. Returning the hug, arms wrapped around Two Time’s torso, rubbing the small of their back gently.
“It was my pleasure, now, how about we eat? Don’t want the food getting cold, do we?” With a soft pat to their friend’s back, the two slowly moved away from the other. Both instantly missing the warmth.. the shared comfort. Slowly, Azure motioned for the other to sit down at the bar, now patting the seat beside them as they had already sat down.
Two Time relaxed beside Azure, looking down at the plate in front of them. Carefully, they lifted the toast to their mouth and took a small bite, pausing for a moment before chewing. While it tasted so good, even better since it was made by their best friend, but.. The churning in their stomach was hard to ignore. That was.. Until Azure placed a hand on their back, rubbing soft circles under their shoulder blade. The motion was enough to soothe the thoughts in their mind, sighing softly as they let the food move down their throat. It wasn’t that bad. They didn’t feel sick. With the initial unease out of the way, they were able to finish the meal rather easily, Azure too finished their food.
“You did wonderfully, I’m assuming you enjoyed it, no?” Azure smiled softly at them, tilting their head to the side as they continued gently rubbing their friend’s back.
“Oh it was very good, your presence was also a major help, thank you-” They returned the smile with a hum, slightly leaning into the reassuring pressure.
“It was not a problem, I’m always happy to assist you when in need.” Giving Two Time one last pat on the back, they then shifted in their seat, glancing over at the clock hanging off the wall. Seeing that it was just past noon, they thought now would be a perfect time to begin their trip.
“Are you ready to head out? We should be able to make it to the spot just in time for sundown!” Their voice was bright and calming, the perfect balance to the other’s generally anxious appearance.
“Yes, that sounds nice. I believe I’m ready, do you think we should bring some waters?” Two Time asked, getting up from their seat to grab both a reusable bag and a couple bottles of water, even before getting a response.
“Oh yes, that is actually a great idea! We do have a good walk to make, so it’s best we stay hydrated.” (cough cough, hydrate or die straight, cough)
With the waters packed, the two started off on their way to Azure’s lovely surprise. Laughing and joking with one another, bright smiles present on both of their faces. During the long walk to the hidden garden, the sun had slowly started to set, the sky being cast in a golden light. Fireflies slowly emerge from the grass below their feet. Azure suddenly took hold of Two Time’s hand, picking up the pace as they neared the garden.
“For the.. Past few days I’ve been working to make sure this spot was perfect.. To make sure that it was worthy of your presence, and I uhm.. I think I got it as close as I could to your beauty.” Both their faces were a soft red, Azure looking towards the ground while Two Time couldn’t look anywhere but Azure.
“Oh Azure…” Their voice was soft, shoulders relaxed as they moved closer when suddenly, Azure had shifted to reveal the expansive nightshade garden. Fireflies roaming freely as the night grew closer, soft fairy lights hung from some of the trees. It was beautiful.. But.. Two Time knew the sight didn’t compare to how Azure looked in the soft glow of fireflies and fairy lights.
“I.. wanted to show you this.. I’ve been planning to take you here for a while but.. Most of the time I was too scared to commit. I’ve.. I’ve also been wanting to tell you something.. That.. that I..” Azure’s nerves started getting to them, voice shaky and uncertain as they tried to spit out the thoughts stuck to their tongue.
Seeing the nerves consume Azure, Two time had gently taken their hands into their own, giving them the gentlest of squeezes. “Hey.. it’s okay, just take a moment to breathe, there’s no rush, okay?” They smiled softly at them, their thumb rubbing the top of Azure’s hand.
Azure gave a slow nod, taking a deep breath and sighing softly, squeezing the other’s hands gently. “Thank you.. Sorry for the rambling- eheh.. What I meant to say was.. I.. I like you, a lot, Two Time.” Their gaze hesitantly met Two Time’s.. The look in their eyes was like nothing they’ve ever seen before. The adoration… love… gentleness.. All at once, it was enough to make their breath hitch.
The two stood there, silently. One of the hands holding Azure’s let go, slowly lifting to cup their cheek, holding it as if it could break from the slightest touch. The distance between them began to close as Two Time moved ever closer, their breaths meeting in between them. Azure’s heart beat loudly in their chest, their face flushed with a vibrant red. To encourage the other on further, they began moving closer as well, their eyes lidded as they stared into each other’s eyes.
The silent encouragement spurred them on, closing the distance fully and capturing the other in a soft, loving kiss. The world seemed to freeze at that moment. Both of their eyes fluttered shut as they stayed close together. Azure’s arms moved to wrap around Two Time’s neck, holding on as if for dear life. The kiss felt as if it lasted forever and not long enough at the same time. Both out of breath as they pulled back. Azure was the first to make a sound, laughing softly as they pulled the other into a chaste kiss. Looking up at them with a loving gaze.
“That was perfect.. You always come up with the best ideas.” Two Time’s voice was barely above a whisper as they rested their head overtop Azure’s shoulder, nuzzling in close to the crook of their neck.
“I’m glad you thought so… my Nightshade..” A soft sigh parted from their lips, hands draped over the others shoulders as they stayed relaxed against each other. The moment.. was perfect. Nothing could ruin this. Their heartbeats in sync with each other, Two Time’s tail swaying softly behind their legs.
