Work Text:
dear will,
sam sax once wrote
”there’s a theory / that says you don’t exist / unless someone calls / & you respond”
and mary lambert once said
”i only know how to exist when i’m wanted”
they’re talking about everybody / but to me / it feels as if i / am trying to tell you things i think all the time
which i suppose i am
i suppose i tried to give you the world / and mars too if you’d have liked to have it
i still want to but if i give you / a continent a country / a state an island
would it seem normal or would it be too much
i’d like to give you all five oceans / a drop of water is simply a bribe
and if you asked for mars and mercury and jupiter too / i’d fall on my knees to whoever holds them and fight if they say no / because simply you deserve everything you want even though you’ve never had it
will there’s one thing i know you want / that i can-not will-not give / and it has a name spelled d-e-a-t-h
i cannot give you that but if you ever hold it in your arms / it will be the only thing you truly want for yourself i will force you to let me have too
your bike is red / and so is your blood
my tears are transparent / and so is the way i hide my love for you
your color is yellow / and so is the thing you forever shine brighter than
my color matches the way i feel passing by your house / and my color is blue
will can i just say
i have a flower and it’s not the world / but i hope it feels that way to you / you’ll never have it but i dream of the way it looks on your window
will can i just say
i’m going to love you / even if the only one who sees it is a girl who doesn’t need it / even if i can only do it right in my head just like everything else
will can i just say
you’re going to have the whole universe
love, mike
