Sebastian Sallow, ever the ladies man, was facing an unfathomable realization about his love life. Sebastian was popular, there was no denying that. There was also no denying that there were many girls who would come up to him on a daily basis asking him for his number. He would go on dates with these girls, and they would have an amazing time. Even so, there was just never that spark with any of them. Of course there were many things they had in common, he just never really felt that connection with anyone that he was looking for. The type of connection that felt deep and raw. The person who actually had a hold to this connection into Sebastian’s heart just happened to be his roommate and best friend since primary school, Ominis Gaunt.
What was Sebastian doing about this unexpected revelation? What he always does best, acting completely awkward and weird with Ominis. Unsurprisingly, Ominis had noticed this behavior fairly quickly and had been questioning this weird change in his mood for the better part of a week. Sebastian dismissed these questions, stating that he was just stressed about exams that were coming up soon. While not entirely false, this definitely was not the main reason for the sudden change in his mood. Ominis took this answer, but was still a little suspicious of Sebastian. He knew the man like the back of his own hand, he knew that deep down there was something more that was bothering Sebastian, but didn’t want to pry. Instead he just patiently waited, hoping that Sebastian one day would go up to him and tell him what was bothering him so deeply.
Sebastian, still in panic mode, went to the only person he could think of for advice on the matter, Poppy Sweeting, his best friend since Secondary School. While Sebastain and Poppy hadn’t known each other for as long as him and Ominis, she was a really good friend and was really sweet and reliable. He quickly scurried to his bedroom, pulling out his phone and immediately dialing Poppy. After the second ring, she picked up the phone, sounding exhausted and dazed. “I was about to fall asleep Sebastian, what’s going on?” She asked, letting out a yawn. He would have to apologize to her later, but right now he was too busy focusing on his new found feelings for his best friend and roommate. “Poppy, we have a big problem” Sebastian yelled, pacing up and down the room while fidgeting with his free hand. “First of all, ouch. Second, what is this supposed big problem?” She asked, sounding farther away from the phone. “I’m in love with Ominis” Sebastian said finally, stilling his movements. The other end of the line was silent for a moment, and then a “Shit, that is a big problem”.
They talked on the phone for hours, Sebastian nervously explaining these newfound feelings for his best friend, and Poppy patiently listening to him as he stumbled over his words and paused for a few moments. “Well, what are you going to do?” Poppy asked, stirring some tea with a spoon. “What do you mean what am I going to do? Ominis can’t know about these feelings” Sebastian said, panic lacing his voice. Poppy, sighing loudly, replied “Sebastian, you have to tell Ominis that you love him. Whether you're ready for that conversation or not, it has to happen, you can’t just keep your feelings hidden forever. What would happen if Ominis decided he wanted to go out with someone else? You would regret never giving it a chance between you two. He’s your best friend Sebastian, Ominis out of anyone in the world would be the most understanding of you”. As much as Sebastian hated how right she was, he couldn’t deny anything that she said. Everything she said was true, but Sebastian was still worried.
“What if he doesn’t like me back?” Sebastian asked, running his hands through his messy brown hair. “If he doesn’t like you back..” Poppy took a long time to formulate a response. “Then he’s missing out on an awesome man, and at the end of the day, you guys are best friends, and things will just return to the way they’ve always been” Poppy said sincerely, Sebastian chuckled softly, shaking his head. “Thank you Poppy, sincerely, I really appreciate all the help that you have given me over the years, especially now” He really couldn’t thank her enough. Poppy replied bashfully, “Awwww Seb you make me blush. You’re very welcome. Just think of a way to confess to him, maybe take him to a fancy dinner or have an at home movie marathon. Even if things go south, I promise, I will be there for you to help you through it”. After thanking Poppy profusely and saying their goodbyes, Sebastian hung up the phone. He sighed, falling back down on his bed. He thought of all the ideas that Poppy gave him, and decided that a fun day out with Ominis doing their favorite things, plus a fancy dinner afterward, would be a perfect way to confess to Ominis.
So the next day, Sebastian managed to pluck up the courage to ask Ominis out for a day of fun as an apology for how weird he has been acting. Ominis agreed, going to his room to pick out his best outfit, with Sebastian's help of course, as he made multiple premade outfits for Ominis. Sebastian went to his room, getting into a simple short sleeve black button up shirt and some black jeans. He put on black and white converse, deciding to spraying on a bit of cologne, smelling of cedar and citrus. Ominis had picked it out for him awhile back, saying that it smelt good on him, and so he had been wearing it ever since. Sebastian blushed at the thought, putting on a simple small silver chain necklace before stepping out of his room. Sebastian's mouth fell agape as he looked at Ominis, trying to quickly recover. Ominis, in all his glory, was wearing a white long sleeve button up rolled all the way up to his elbows, with a simple pair of black jeans and black and white converse. His neck sported a small silver snake chain, with a simple silver band on his ring finger. He also smelled strongly of old parchment and coffee, Sebastian's breath caught in his throat.
“Are we ready to go, Sebastian?” Ominis asked, noticing the sudden halt his best friend took. “Yeah sorry, let’s head out” Sebastian said, going over to their kitchen table, grabbing his keys. Ominis was already by the door, cane in hand, waiting for Sebastian patiently. Sebastian quickly came to the door, opening it while Ominis grabbed his arm and linked it with his. This had become a tradition every time they would go out. Of course Ominis always had his cane on him, but he always held on to Sebastian's arm as well, saying that he was using him for ‘extra support’. Sebastian never complained, letting his best friend cling onto his arm whenever he wanted. The man clutched at his side now made Sebastian blush, but he pushed the feeling aside as they were walking his car. Once in the car, Ominis looked over in his direction, a small smile playing at his lips. “So, Sebastian, where are you taking me first on this amazing adventure of yours?” Sebastian looked over, smiling sheepishly. “You’ll see, I promise this will be an adventure worthwhile” and like that, they were off to their first location.
When they finally pulled up to their first spot, Sebastian was sitting there, grinning like an idiot. He got out of the car first, the smell of coffee hitting his nose immediately. He walked over to Ominis’ side, opening the door for him. Ominis smiled, giving him a curt nod as he grabbed his cane and of course, Sebastian’s arm. The familiar smell of the coffee hit Ominis’ nose, making his smile even brighter. “My favorite Café?” Ominis asked, poking Sebastian’s arm playfully. “I thought what better way to start this day than to go to your favorite café and order some food and drinks, relax before we go out” Sebastian admitted. This was the only time he was glad Ominis was blind, as he couldn’t see the raging blush flushed against his freckled face. Ominis’ smile never left his face, giving Sebastian an approving hum and nod. Sebastian led them to a small, secluded table in the corner, grabbing and looking at the menu. Ominis knew what he wanted, but Sebastian didn’t go to this café often, so he looked to see if there was anything that he would like.
Ominis ordered his usual, a small latte with a cinnamon scone. Sebastian decided that he was going to order a Latte with a breakfast sandwich and a chocolate chip muffin. Omnis chuckled, “You sure are hungry, aren’t you Sallow?” Sebastian huffed in annoyance. “Yeah well, a guy has got to eat when he’s hungry, Gaunt” Ominis snickered at that. Once they got their food and drinks, they sat there and chatted with each other. Sebastian was very grateful for this moment, as he realized just how long it had been since he and Ominis just got to talk about life. They talked about school, friends, family, drama, tv shows they recently watched, books they’ve read, everything. It felt so natural between them, like they were meant to do this every single day. This made Sebastian’s heart throb in his chest, feeling like it was going to explode at any minute.
Once they were finished with their food, they paid and headed off to their next adventure. The next stop was to their local library that Ominis loved going to, as it had a wide variety of books in braille there for him to read. Sebastian stuck by him, looking at the books with Ominis that he was showing off. Sebastian knew very little braille, but still wanted to look at the books with him, as the way his pale blue eyes lit up every time he picked one up was intoxicating. They stayed there a bit longer, Ominis following Sebastian around as he let him look at the non braille books, still loving to hold and feel the books in his hands. Sebastian ended up buying some books for Ominis and himself, and when Ominis tried to complain, Sebastian fought back “it’s not a big deal. You do so much for me, Ominis. It’s time for me to return the favor”. They visited many places afterwards, like Ominis’ favorite clothing stores, or just little mom and pop shops that he found interest in when Sebastian pointed it out to him.
Their day together was amazing, and Sebastian couldn’t have been more grateful, but the best and most nerve racking part of the day was just about to begin. They finally arrived at the restaurant, one of Ominis’ favorite places to go. “You know Sebastian, we’ve only been to places that I’ve been wanting to go to today, what about you?” Ominis had finally asked as they got seated at the table. “I told you, I was making it up to you today, and part of that was taking you to your favorite places” Sebastian’s voice let out a hint of nervousness, but Ominis didn’t seem to mind it, as he took what he said as an acceptable answer. They ordered their appetizers and drinks, Sebastian getting a mimosa while Ominis ordered something more his style, a classic martini. They were having an amazing time, laughing and chatting away with each other. Eventually, they ordered their meals, Ominis getting a medium rare steak and Sebastian ordering bangers and mash, but a fancier version.
Ominis took another sip of his Martini, looking over at Sebastian with a questioning look in his eyes. “Sebastian, I know you took me out today because you wanted to make it up to me, but this seems more than just that” Sebastian stiffened at that, a panicked flush rising to his cheeks. “What makes you say that?” Sebastian asked, taking a big swig of his mimosa. ”Just, with the way you’ve been behaving not only in the past week, but today? This seems more than just a fun day out between friends” Sebastian sighed, resting his head in his hands. Before he could answer, however, their food was brought out to them. The silence that followed was not awkward, but instead a silence that was filled with questioning and maybe even longing. They didn’t say anything else until the end of the dinner, when Sebastian suggested that they go on a walk together in the nearby park.
Once there, Ominis did as he normally had done and laced his arm with Sebastian, this time forgetting his cane all together. They walked in silence for a few moments, Sebastian carefully gathering his thoughts so he could properly confess his feelings to Ominis. Sebastian stopped completely, and Ominis looked over at him with a puzzled look. Sebastian took a deep breath in before turning his body to be completely faced with Ominis. His cologne was intoxicating, and his light blue eyes were entrancing, but Sebastian had to focus and tell him. “When you had pointed out that our day today seemed to be more than what friends would do, I mean, you’re not entirely off” Sebastian started, and Ominis cocked a brow at his words, waiting for him to continue. “I love you, Ominis” Sebastian finally said, and all Ominis could do was freeze up, but this made Sebastian feel panicked.
“I’m sorry for not telling you sooner. Honestly I was trying to deal with this realization myself. Only ever really being with girls, I wasn’t expecting that the person who held that little spark and love in my heart was you all along” Sebastian tried to swallow down the lump in his throat, but it was no use. He said what he said, and now he had to just wait for what Ominis’ response to the whole thing was going to be. Ominis stood still for a few minutes, trying to process what had happened. Eventually, much to Sebastian’s surprise, a gentle smile rested upon Ominis’ face. He drew his hand up to touch Sebastian’s face, mapping it with his fingers. Sebastian sighed softly, closing his eyes as Ominis’ hands gently traced over all the big and little details. Sebastian, suddenly growing very confident, leaned in, his lips close to Ominis’, but not touching, almost like he was testing the waters a bit.
Ominis let out a soft chuckle, as he leaned in and pressed his lips against Sebastian’s. Sebastian sighed, relaxing as he pressed his lips back softly against Ominis’. When they pulled back, Sebastian quickly kissed him again, deeper and rougher this time. Reluctantly, Ominis pulled back, a dumb smile playing at his lips as he held Sebastian’s face in his hands. Sebastian circled his hands around his waist, his face red and hot. “You absolute idiot Sebastian Sallow, this is what was bothering you all week? Your feelings for me? Gosh you really are something else” Ominis sighed dramatically, shaking his head as a pink hue settled on his perfect pale cheeks. “To be fair, I didn’t know if you’d actually like me back or not, okay?” Sebastian pouted, trying to justify his long awaited confession. Ominis let out a loud laugh before pulling him into another rough kiss.
They eventually walked back to Sebastian’s car, arm in arm, with big smiles on their faces. “I have to thank Poppy when we get home,” Sebastian mentioned, shaking his head. “Why?” Ominis gave him a questioning look. “She’s the whole reason I even confessed to you in the first place” Sebastian admitted sheepishly. Ominis laughed, a knowing look in his eye. “I figured that she gave you help, I couldn’t imagine you getting the courage to confess all on your own” Sebastian laughed, shaking his head at him. “You’re such an ass,” He playfully said. “But I’m your ass now, so you have to deal with it,” Ominis replied. Sebastian smiled more genuinely than he had in years, and replied “Yeah, you're mine now”. Ominis smiled back.
“Don’t forget, you have to tell your sister” Ominis told him. “Oh shit” was all Sebastian had to say to that. He knew that he would never hear the end of it from Anne about him and Ominis being together, but it would be worth it. At the end of the day, Ominis was his, and that’s all that mattered.
