Love the Bomb

Summary:

Greenlight wriggled, tapping her fingers against the ceiling railing, optics glued to the shape of Firestar’s aircraft mode in the distant horizon. It was nearly impossible to see with the naked eye, so instead Greenlight had brought specialized binoculars to observe her work in real time. Firestar was achingly slow, and the scientist felt she could positively die if she didn’t hurry up.

Greenlight tests an invention. Arcee is also there.

Work Text:

Greenlight wriggled, tapping her fingers against the ceiling railing, optics glued to the shape of Firestar’s aircraft mode in the distant horizon. It was nearly impossible to see with the naked eye, so instead Greenlight had brought specialized binoculars to observe her work in real time. Firestar was achingly slow, and the scientist felt she could positively die if she didn’t hurry up.

Her companion, sadly, seemed far less enthused to be here. Arcee’s empty face felt even emptier than usual. She likely would rather be on the battlefield herself, carrying out their leader’s will, or even hovering around said leader like a hellhound while she worked. Greenlight endeavored not to take it as a slight, as this was Arcee’s default state, but sometimes, she seriously worried that her teammate’s fixation would be her downfall. Not everyone possessed Greenlight’s self-awareness.

Finally, the gates of beauty opened in shape of a cargo-plane-turned-bomber, and torpedos fell from her, trailing behind like robo-ducklings as Firestar went from a speck to a pinprick in the distance.

Greenlight shrieked in delight. “There is it! Those bombs are my design!”

Her binoculars clattered to the ground as Arcee numbly dodged her grasping hands. Greenlight whipped back around to eagerly lean over the railing, realized she’d tossed her binoculars, and dove to retrieve them while her energon-green companion received crackly, but live, updates from Firestar. Arcee made indifferent noises at the end of every message, but she too could not tear her eyes away.

Smoke and fire billowed into the air as the bombs landed, heat consuming everything in its path: buildings, stray bots, energon, and to Greenlight, the very foundation of Cybertron. The sky darkened and wept acid of her namesake— that was the special part (she was thinking of maybe adding a color to represent each member of their team.) Even with the distance, it was unmistakable, and wonderful, and everything she could’ve hoped for. Except, maybe, for her partner to be by her side in this moment.

Greenlight reversed Firestar’s blockade against her comm signal and calmly began attacking her with questions.

Overall, it was a productive day for the Elite Guard, with the Polyhex Plains leveled even flatter than they were before. Even better, Greenlight’s itching mind was placated with live observation of her work in the field, accompanied by two of her dear teammates. Now all she had to do was ensure that puppet by the name of Arcee didn’t steal her hard work to look good in front of their leader!
