Work Text:
"Casper!" You gasp as you feel hands suddenly wrap around you while you were working.
You're an artist that works in a frequently commissioned studio, and is currently working on a commission from a man— a simple clay sculptor of his late daughter.
You turn your head to face the sleepy grim reaper. "Hmm, what happened to you? You're not usually this clingy, Cas," you coo as you set down your carving knife on the ceramic potter's wheel.
You cup the otherworldly speciman between your hands, to which he flinches slightly at the wet clay near his seemingly porcelain face, though he leans in nonetheless as you shift your body towards him.
"Sunshine, I.." Casper hesitates, suddenly feeling very silly at what he's about to say. Thus, he decides to phrase it that impacts his pride less.
"I.. Sunshine, don't you ever leave me, alright..?" Casper mutters, pressing his hands on yours, seemingly wanting to bathe in your warmth, even as his own cheeks burn up.
His demand—statement sounds more fitting, now that you think about it—took you by surprise, before you immediately chuckle in response, finding the idea of leaving silly in the first place.
How could you leave your dearest, an emotionally repressed grim reaper with too much pride, who is quite literally bonded to you by whatever supernatural forces there are out there—proof of it being the soul baby you two made via woving your souls together—which doesn't allow the to of you to even live without each other, by himself?
But, you know that Casper would not be the kind to say these things out of no where; the fact alone makes you worry slightly.
"I'm not going anywhere, Casper," you reassure him, pressing your foreheads together, before continuing "but I need to ask, what prompted this.. request?"
You could hear Casper sigh as he closes his eyes, pondering on what to reply—you were quite a 'worrywart' in his eyes, so the last thing he'd desire is for you to fuss and worry over him until you neglect yourself.
You furrow your eyebrows as the silent seemed to stretch on, drowning softly as you take away your hands from his face, leaving a few traces of wet clay on his face; you stifle a chuckle at the sight, to which he glares in response.
You gently wipe the clay away from his face as he explains "Truth be told, Sunshine, I.. had a nightmare." Your actions continue as you wipe away the clay from your own hands.
"I had a nightmare where you left me, long-story-short. You seemed to have grown tired of.. my pride, I suppose.. I remember reaching and running, yet you would not even spare a glance at me.." he murmurs shyly.
You listen attentively to the man in front of you, before sighing softly. "Oh Casper, I would never leave you," you reassure him.
"I'd never leave you, even with all your confidence. You're the most extraordinary person I've known, ever. In my whole life, I've never met anyone as confident, competent, and absolutely adorable as you, Casper.." you gigle softly under your breath as you brush the knots in his hair.
"I am not adorable," Casper glares weakly as he shakes his head in refusal "puppies are cute. Kittens are cute. I am not cute."
You simply laugh at his utter refusal to admit his own charm. "Yes, yes, I know. Still, that does not mean you aren't charming though."
"Back to the topic, Casper.. I'm quite literally interwoven with you; I cannot live with you, and you cannot live without me. We're practically soulmates, hm?"
"I.. believe we are, Sunshine. You have a great point surprisingly. You actually do have something between those ears of yours, huh." Casper could not resist making a quip, which you hit his head gently in response, mildly offended.
"Though, I've got to admit, I'm flattered that you dream about me, caspy~" you tease the already red man in front of you.
"Haah.. I should have never admitted my nightmare to you, mortal.." Casper sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Actually, I'm quite glad you told me Casper," you express genuinely, cupping your lover's face "I'm glad you're open enough to tell me even the most little things— that's healthy, you know? We should always be open with each other at all times! Plus, it's adorable to see you like this, all open and soft."
Casper's eyes avert yours, but he does not reject your touch. As if he's silently agreeing. He sighs, before wrapping his sounds around you once more. "You should go back to your work, Sunshine.. if it's alright, I'll simply stay here, greedily taking in your warmth."
You make no protest against it, just simply humming in acceptance, as you plant a kiss on his forehead, before coming back to your sculpture, humming something off key while your reflecting moon rests behind you.
