Work Text:

Patty sighed while organizing the piles of papers Dante had gotten out for some sort of research on a job. She had given up on his desk, but the coffee table was where she put her snacks, and while it seemed like Dante didn't care about leaving rings on his things, Patty did!

While moving the documents back into their filing box, she was surprised he even had a filing box, a picture fell out. As Patty bent to pick it up she saw two familiar faces... although the clothes and pose was rather strange.

It looked like an old-timely wedding photo! Although... Patty had to admit, Lady's dress looked more modern. Because in the photo was Dante and Lady. Patty stared at it, holding it up into better light to see if she wasn't mistaken. Maybe they were relatives of Dante? Except... they were dead ringers for Dante and Lady.

Weird... Patty put it to the side to ask about later.

She became so engrossed in trying to decipher Dante's handwriting while organizing, that she didn't notice the devil hunter sneaking up on her to pluck the picture up.

Patty let out a yelp and turned on him, smacking him with the book that had been in her hand. "I told you to not do that?"

"Do what?" Dante asked, "You broke in."

"Lady said your front door was fine to practice lock picking on."

"Yeah, because it's my front door. Go practice on hers." He set the picture down and asked, "Why are you doing this anyways? I told you not to mess with my stuff."

"I need to watch the finale of my drama!" Patty declared, "and I didn't want to get snacks on your papers."

He grumbled, but, ignoring her piles, shoved everything back in the box, minus the photo. That he put slightly more carefully in. Patty narrowed her eyes.

"What's the deal with that photo?" she asked.

"Just a cursed camera thing," he said.

"Why were you and Lady dressed like that?"

"Oh you know..." Dante started, and took it all upstairs.

Patty couldn't tell if it was actually nothing, or just Dante trying to make her think it was nothing. One time she'd found a paper about someone named Anthony Redgrave, and she'd Dante had stolen someone identity, only to find out it was just an alias he used to use. It hadn't explained the Mrs Redgrave, but she supposed that could just be whoever he was pretending to be his mother at the time.

As there was no way Dante could be secretly married to Lady. That would be insane!

Before she could ask Dante again, Lady and Morrison entered the office, Lady announcing, "Dante, you're taking a job with me. I don't care you just finished one."

When she saw no Dante in sight, she greeted Patty. Morrison smiled, and sat down next to her. "Excited for the finale?" he asked.

"Of course I am!" Patty exclaimed.

"Is Dante hiding upstairs right now?" Lady asked.

"He was putting documents away," Patty supplied.

"Right," Lady said, and ran upstairs, shouting, "Dante, You keep pulling this and I'm increasing the interest!"

Morrison sighed at their antics. "Spirited bunch, aren't they?"

"Morrison, do you think they could be secretly married?"

Morrison blinked. "What brings that up?"

"I found a picture that looked like a wedding photo. Dante didn't really explain it."

"It would surprise me," Morrison admitted, "I've known those two a long time, and if they had that sort of relationship... I'd think I'd know. But ask Lady, she's sometimes a little more elucidating on those types of things."

A short while later, Lady and Dante came down stairs, Lady no longer as mad. Dante must have agreed to go on the job. Patty struck. "Lady, why does Dante have a picture of you in a wedding dress?"

Lady narrowed her eyes at Dante, who said, "I was working on another possible cursed camera. I keep all that stuff together."

"Of course you do," she said, "I told you to burn it."

"It's not a bad picture."

Lady pinched her brow and said, "We're dressed like that because the camera only acted up with wedding portraits. We needed to draw the demon out, so we dressed up."

"Where'd you get the dress?"

"It was something I found at a thrift store. We actually did have to burn it afterwards because of all the blood." She wrinkled her nose. "Dante somehow managed to keep the suit nice."

"Don't think too hard about my dad's stuff."

"So it was just for a job?" Patty asked, a little disappointed for some reason. Sure, she'd be upset if the two were keeping such a big secret from her, but at the same time, she thought they sort of were cute together. And maybe, if they were married, they might adopt her! Not that Patty hadn't given up on hope of finding her real mother.

"Pretty much," Lady replied, and then turning to Dante said, "Now, you're coming with me. Let's let Patty watch her drama."

"You're paying for pizza AND sundaes after," Dante said petulantly, "The way I like them?"

"I do not understand how your brain works," Lady muttered, louder she said, "Yes! I told I would, right?"

"Just making sure you didn't forget between yelling at me and now."

Despite her exasperation, Patty could tell Lady wasn't as mad as she seemed. The demon hunters left, and Morrison went to make popcorn. Patty sat on the couch, wondering if all adults were weird like those two, or if they were special.
