Work Text:

Being in Hiccup Haddock's head felt like being stuck in the eye of a storm. Ideas were always spiraling into an endless whirlwind, creating a roaring chorus of thoughts overlaping on top of eachother until none was really understable. And in the middle of this constant chaos, sometime the sky would be ripped by the flash of a lighting, and the sound of thunder of a new idea would shake the heavens and the earth.

The storm that was Hiccup Haddock's mind did not care about day and night, it would not care about time and space. When the thunder started to rumble, his hands where already around a pen, his eyes on a piece of paper, trying to turn lighting in scribble, like some sort of mind alchimist. He did not remembered what he was doing before he rushed to his desk to begin twisting steel wire and gears, it was an information lost in the storm. At some point, he knew he had to reach to his lamp to turn it on because he wasn't seeing his work well enought, but he did not noticed how the night had set up outside of his window until he lifted his head to search for Jack. There was a plate of grilled cheese sandwitch next to him. He grabbed one before leaving his room, his wonderful new creation in heand .

He found Jack in the complete darkness of the main room, lying across the sofa under a wool blanket Rapunzel knitted for him that did not covered his feet, the pale light of his computer screen making him look like the most beautiful alien that never settled on earth. Hiccup did not say anything at first, because he was too busy trying to fold his grilled cheese in four with only one hand to store it in his mouth. Only then did he rested his arm on the back of the sofa and cleared his throat to get his boyfriend attention. When he lowered his eyes, he realized Jack was already looking at him, with that smile of a man really proud of his discretion habillities. Jackson Overland was never seen, never heard and watched everything.

« Guess who is a pure genius ? » Hiccup asked, lifting an eyebrow, trying not to seem to affected.

Jack did not needed anything else to throw his laptop away on the coffee table and staighten himself up to try to reach toward Hiccup's hand.

« Is it done ? Show me ! Come on ! »

Hiccup lifted his arm to put his work away but Jack did not needed to ask him twice for him to step over the back of the sofa. Feets kicked the blanket away while arms came wraping around waist in a gesture made hundreds and hundred of time until dna forget it wasn't a essential part of survival. After hours of hunching on his desk like some sort of old goldsmith, Hiccup nested himself into the gap between a ribcage and an arm and lifted his work in front of them. It was dark, but the light of the laptop screen still shone on the long of the stylized bird wings and the end of it's beak.

« Tadada ! » he proclaimed. « Tuffnut's birthday gift is finish ! Now I only have to make something for Ruffnut before the deadline ! »

-Is that a chicken ? » Jack asked, with the voice of someone that, deep down in his heart, hoped it WAS a chicken.

Hiccup extracted his hand from it's soft and warm place under Jack's back to push on the long reptilian tail on the back of the small figure, making the wings spread.

« It's a basilisk actually. He will have both chicken and snake since he wasn't capable of choosing one. »

Jack only comment was to grab the little metal tail and proceed to actionate it repeatedly, like a kid messing up with the lights switch.

« Can I have one too ? » he giggled, because it was worth asking.

Hiccup felt a yawn starting to tense in his jaws and tried to hide it with a his hand.

« Not right now, I have to make Ruffnut gift's quick, I don't have a lot of time before their birthday. »

-Are you kidding ? Their birthday is in three month ! »

Strictly speaking, it was true, and no matter how much bad faith Hiccup could put in his anwser, he couldn't deny Jack was right, but the only thought that maybe, just maybe, this fact could be a excuse for him to relax made his skin crawl.

« Okay, no ! » he quickly corrected. « Their birthday is almost in just two month ! We are, like, February the 15th, so we are closer from March than we are from January, so... »

-February the 16 th. »

Hiccup's eyes felt like if they just spend four hours roasting in a hot oven. It took him a second to realise he had to turn his whole head to look at Jack because the pupils didn't worked well.

« What ? »

Jack pointed toward the laptop beside him on the table. The light of the screen made Hiccup wanting to be buried alive.

« We are Frebruary the 16th. It's past midnight. We are like...tomorrow. »

Hiccup's brain immediately decided it wasn't. It was a very logical brain, you see, and there wasn't any chances that he could have worked so long without realizing anything. He passed an arm over Jack's chest, and after a little bit of struggling that had them almost roll to the ground, he managed to grab the laptop to take a look by himself. Some great disturbance must have happen to the fabric of the universe because it seemed like Jack was right. Or maybe all of Hiccup's friends were correct when they were saying he was incapable of stopping a project.

There was a storm in his brain, storms did not cared about time.

But since he still had a very logical brain, he turned toward Jack to exclaim, maybe a little to loud for this hour :

« Why the FUCk are you still awake ?

-Uh, who's talking ? » Jack frowned, not expecting such an hypocrite anwser. « Are you kidding me ? »

Hiccup gestured toward his figurine, still hold reverently in Jack's hand like if it was some sort of old artifact.

« I know why I'M still awake, why are you ? »

As he was slowly burying himself deeper in the sofa, Jack deliberatly tried to avoid his gaze, using his awkward little laugh like he always did when he was trying to delay an anwser. To bad for him, splendid smiles and delighful laugh were not enough to stop Hiccup from noticing how he was trying to close the computer screen to hide his misdeeds.

« You said you would not tryied to report Aster's youtube chanel to piss him off ! » Hiccup sighted because this time, he really thought Jack was over it.

« What ? »

For someone faking surprise, his boyfriend was slowly getting better at it.

« Come on, not without meee. » Hiccup gave him the softest smile he was capable off at this hour.

He batted Jack's hand away from the laptop to re-open it, but to his biggest desapointment, he did not found the hundred of eggs images to spam Jack's brother inbox he was waiting for. Instead, the screen lighten to a strange arrangement of plannings, budget calculations and spreadsheets. For a second, the night actually felt like night, full of silence and tiredness, but the storm of a mind was still here, pushing against his skull bones, thunder roaring behind his ears. To be inside Hiccup Haddock's mind was to be trapped in a never ending tornato and praying for the wind to never fall.

« Who are you, and were is my Jackson Overland ? » he asked, turning toward his boyfriend, his boyfriend who always made the wind rise.

« Okay, okay, listen, i'm NOT crazy ! » Jack straighted his back to defend himself, like if he had suddently fallen in the middle of a justice court. « But half of the kids of last years camp were bored as fuck because the weather was to shitty to go out, so if don't find at least two emergency alternative for each one of our outdoor activities, politely, I will die. Now the problem is : we did NOT have all the said outdoor activities plained out, and I've already been yelled at twice for «  starting unregistred activities » without the direction green light. ».

Hiccup choosed to say nothing. For the moment, it was the better thing to do. He only lean on his elbow and stared tenderly into Jack's eyes. After only four seconds of this treatement, a little pout started to grow onto his boyfriend mouth.

« I'm NOT crazy. » Jack stated, lifting a finger that failed to shut him up.

« The summer camp...of July. »

« The birthday in M a r c h. »

Hiccup let his head drop on Jack's shoulder. After all the hours spend on his desk, his brain was starting to feel like hot melted iron. For a second, his grip on reality seemed to disapear and he thought that he had really lose his mind. Suddently, he passed his arms around Jack neck to lift his body up.

« Why are you like this ?! » he laughed before starting to plant kisses all over his boyfriend bleached hairs without minding the weird taste his gel left on his lips.

« What are you even doing ? »

It was like if Jack's laughed was echoeing inside his ribs and even deeper. He felt a hand weakly trying to push him away. He hugged the skull like he never wanted to let go of it.

« Kissing you brain ! » he smiled between the strands of hairs. « I love it ! »

« Are you kidding ? Who is loving brain, here ?! » Jack started to wag under him, grabbing him under the arms and after some messy wresling, Hiccup found himself cornered between two pillows before kisses started to rain over his skull. « That beautiful stupid brain of yours ! Why are YOU like this ? »

Hiccup tried to defend himself against this merciless attack, but he only managed to laugh way too loud for this hour. Like it was some sort of contagious desease, Jack started giggling too, eyes turning into two cresent from how much he smiled. They must have realized how noisy they were because they simutaneously started to wave their hands at each other to shush themself. Maybe it would have all been a little more efficient if they were capable to stop giggling for a second.

« Oh Thor, the neighbourgs are gonna hate us ! » Hiccup tried his best to keep a last burst of laughter to pass the corner of his lips, but Jack didn't seemed to experience the same moral dilemma.

« Nah, they know they live next to geniuses of tomorrow . Oh ! It's like that...the movie, you know ? Singing in the rain ! Good morning ! Good mor-ning, it's great to stay up late... »

As he casually started singing without a single care for the old lady next door or the whole concept of « in tune » for all that matter, Hiccup immediatly reached forward, shoving a hand over his mouth.

« Shh, shh, shh !! Are you crazy ? Do you...EH, THAT'S DISGUSTING ! » he exclaimed way to loud when he felt with horror the wetness of a tongue on his palm.

He almost jumped back, but the sofa backrest was forbiding him to go very far. Jack only smiled, like the smug motherfucker he was. Hiccup shaked his hand, hoping for the remaining feeling to disapear.

« Urg, who raised you ? »

Jack lifted his chin to pretend to look at a invisible horizon, a serious frown on his forehead.

« Only children can't unterstand the wars I fought in. »

Hiccup shooved a hand on his face to swipe away his false solemnity. Space didn't felt real. Maybe that was why he found himself lying on the pillows, arm thrown over his eyes like he was playing some sort of dying prince in a play. He didn't remember moving.

« We are the worst, aren't we ? Look at us... » he mumbled as a small smile appeared on his lips.

« Oh, of course we are ! » Jack exclaimed with delight like he was raising a toast «  And now there is a whole new day ahead of us for ours crazy minds to make new stupid things ! »

Hiccup felt the arms drapped over his eyes lift before he pulled himself up to sit. Life and space were a big lie or a carefully crafted joke and he did not care. Somewhere in his brain, the storm sounded sort of muffled, like if it had been contain in a box of a very special kind. He was starting to miss it a little.

After looking at him for a moment, he placed his hands of both sides of Jack's head and with a little chukled, he planted a kiss on the top of his head.

« Well, good morning brain. » he said softly, his heart craving to feel Jack's laugh in his bones again.

Jack slowly putted his own hands over his before rolling on the side and Hiccup slowly leaned back into the sofa without pulling his eyes away. Jack gave him a smile full of snow white teeth.

« Good morning, mind. » he told him before placing a kiss over Hiccup's hair.

He was about to move away and sit up when his eyes shone with admiration and his head went down a second time. Hiccup's hands were still cupping his face, he pulled him toward his lips only a second before Jack met them with his own.

No matter how much Hiccup tried to entangle his arms around his boyfriend head, they finally had to pull away from each others, and when they did, he feeled like he just have been pushed down a fourty foot long waterslide. He knew it was the exact same feeling because he was an adrenaline junky and amusement parks hated to him coming.

Something was back under his skull. Roaring wind and crashing tunder, merciless lighting and monstruous clouds. Hiccup's mind was a never ending storm, and it never felt as good as next to the howling blizzard that was Jack Frost.
